Compher Hat-Trick helps Avs to 6-0 Win, Sets Up Chance at Top Spot in West

The Colorado Avalanche blitzed the Kings Wednesday to put themselves in position to win the President’s Trophy which is awarded to the team with the most points in the NHL

A win ensures the the top spot in the West and if they make it to the Stanley Cup Finals, they would have home ice advantage.

J.T. Compher had his first career hat-trick. Captain Gabe Landeskog, Pierre-Édourad Bellmare and Joonas Donskoi all found the back of the net.

Phillip Grubauer stopped all 18 shots he faced to pick up his 30th win of the season.

Even though Las Vegas finished with 82 points after blanking San Jose, 6-0 in the Shark Tank. If the Avalanche win Thursday to match the 82 point total, their 5-3 season tiebreaker earns them the top seed in the Western Conference Playoffs which start next week.

Following the game, Head Coach Jared Bednar said he was going to start Jonas Johansson Thursday, and that Nathan Mackinnon would miss his 4th game in the last 5 to heal his lower body injury and rest up for the playoffs.
