Lyft is putting 200 electric vehicles onto Colorado streets starting in December. As part of its Express Drive program,.qualified Lyft drivers can rent the vehicles. They stand to make more money as Lyft will provide free charging and they will no longer have to pay for gas Lyft says drivers can save $70 to $100 dollars a week on fuel costs.
Lyft's commitment to electric vehicles was praised by Governor Jared Polis and Denver Mayor Michael Hancock. Polis wants the state to add more electric vehicles to its fleet and Denver plans to buy 200 electric vehicles this year. Denver has 400 charging stations around the city and has funding to add more. The state has plans to build charging stations along major interstate highways next year.
