Denver police often encounter families who don't have enough to eat. In some cases, officers have dug into their own pockets to provide a meal. Now, they simply have to open the trunk of their patrol cars to find bags of non-perishable food. The food bags are being provided by a non-profit called We don't Waste. The bags also contain a card that tells families where they can get long term food assistance.
The goal is to help feed people who may otherwise turn to crime to feed their families. Police will also be able to establish better bonds with low income communities
