Denver Public Works installed in-street pedestrian crossing signs at two intersections on Mississippi Avenue on Friday. A total of ten intersections will get the new signs this month with plans to add even more in the future.
In Denver this year, 56 people have been killed on the streets, many of them pedestrians. It's hoped the signs will get drivers to slow down for pedestrians and that accidents will be reduced. The signs are part of Denver's Vision Zero program to make the city safe for cars, bicycles, scooters and walkers. Intersections without stoplights, that have heavy pedestrian traffic, are being targeted for the in-street signs. .
