Electric Scooters may face new rules next year

Scooter riders in Denver may have to learn new rules next year.  A City Council Committee approved a bill that limits when the scooters can ride on the sidewalk.  Deputy chief of staff Nick Williams said they've received many complaints about the scooters on the sidewalks.  Under the new rules, scooter riders would have to use bike lanes and stay to a limit of 15 miles per hour.  If there is no bike lane they can use the side of the road and stay within 30 miles per hour.  If they have to ride on the sidewalk they must ride no faster than 6 miles per hour. The proposal still has to go to the full Council.  If approved the new rules will go into effect next year.
