Hundreds of Denver's poor and homeless flocked to the Denver Rescue Mission for a Thanksgiving meal on Wednesday. Servers included Governor John Hickenlooper and other local politicians.
The Rescue Mission President/CEO, Brad Meuli, says the mission becomes the Thanksgiving family for many of the people living on the streets. Those who ate the traditional Thanksgiving meal with all the trimmings also received a warm pair of socks as they left the building.
This year The Denver Rescue Mission collected more than 15,000 turkeys. A few went to Wednesday's Thanksgiving banquet, while the rest were distributed as part of food baskets to needy families all across the Denver Metro Area.
