Polar Bears to leave the Denver Zoo

The Denver Zoo has announced that it's longtime polar bears are moving away this fall.  Cranbeary, a 16 year old female, will leave this month for the Alaska Zoo.  Lee, an 18 year old male, will depart later in the fall for the Columbus Zoo.  It was all at the recommendation of the Association of Zoos and the Aquariums' Species Survival Plan in the hopes they produce offspring and new mates.  The Denver Zoo will move the two grizzly bears from Bear Mountain into the existing polar bear exhibit.  There is hope of bringing polar bears back someday when enough money can be raised.  The public is invited to come say goodbye to Cranbeary and Lee and learn about polar bears and efforts to protect the species.
