Arapahoe Basin has started snowmaking in the race to become the first Colorado ski area to open this season. Snowmaking operations started on Thursday night, September 21st, the earliest start for snowmaking in the past ten seasons. A-Basin has 25 snow guns which are powered by renewable solar energy. Whenever it is cold enough to make snow, the guns will build the base on the intermediate High Noon run.
Arapahoe Basin will battle it out with Loveland to become the first ski area to open. So far, there is no target date for the opening of the ski season in Colorado.
