2,000 Acre Wildfire Outside Durango

Fire officials in La Plata County flew over the 416 fire this morning, forming strategy.More than 800 homes have been evacuated, with another 760 on pre-evacuation notice. The fire is burning ten miles north of Durango, on the west side of Highway 550. It was 11-hundred acres in size Saturday morning, and had grown to nearly 2,000 acres by mid-afternoon. Firefighters dealt with gusty winds Friday, but breezes were lighter Saturday. It's dry in the area, with temperatures in the low to mid-eighties.
