Denver and Colorado May Bid for a Winter Olympics

A Winter Games Exploratory Committee has recommended Denver and Colorado pursue landing a future Winter Olympics.  Governor John Hickenlooper and Mayor Micheal Hancock have accepted that recommendation.

The committee contends a Winter Olympics could be hosted without any direct government funding and without putting taxpayers at risk if the games lose money.

The committee says it has gone through countless data points and has had conversations with more than 30,000 Coloradans.

The recommendations says a bid should only move forward if voters approve the idea in a statewide election. The committee claims the games could serve as a catalyst to help solve problems such as traffic congestion and the lack of affordable housing.

The USOC is currently focusing on bids for 2030 and beyond.
