Ground has been broken on a $1.5 billion project to add 39 gates at Denver International Airport. Gates will be added to each of the airport concourses by telescoping out on both ends. Most of the gates will be completed in 2020 with final completion expected in early 20121.
The airport is responding to a surge in passenger traffic and demand for air travel. DIA has been setting records for passenger traffic nearly every month. The airport is operating at capacity and the airlines have been asking for more gates.
The construction is not expected to impact the traveling public.
