Boulder police investigate a report of a student carrying a rifle case at Fairview High School
Shortly after 7:30 a.m. police were notified that it looked like a 15 year-old was walking towards Fairview High School with a rifle case. Several Boulder Police officers responded, entered the school and searched the area. Boulder Valley School District was notified and made the decision to place area schools on lockout and then lockdown. Shortly before 8:30 a.m., the student was located in their classroom and it was determined that the student was carrying a white wooden rifle that was brought to school for a Color Guard class which is part of Fairview’s curriculum. Normally the student carries the wooden rifle in a case; however, the case he was carrying was full of flags so he decided to carry the rifle outside of the case. The rifle is a prop and is not operational as a functioning rifle.
