State lawmakers are heading off a potential burden to the healthcare industry. A bill on nursing is the first one across the finish line of the legislative session and is now on Governor Hickenlooper's desk. It enters Colorado into a new compact with more than two-dozen other states. It allows nurses certified in other locations to practice in Colorado without having to obtain a local license. The current compact expires tomorrow. The measure gained final passage in the state House yesterday, and Governor Hickenlooper is expected to sign it soon.
