Caramelized French Onion Dip

THIS IS SO EASY BUT IT DOES TAKE A MINUTE

Ingredients

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 large sweet onion, very thinly sliced

1/4 cup water

One 8-ounce package cream cheese, softened to room temperature

1/4 cup mayonnaise

1/2 cup sour cream

1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1/2 teaspoon garlic salt

1/2 teaspoon onion powder

1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

Directions: Heat the olive oil in a medium skillet over medium-high heat. Add the onions and saute until beginning to brown, 5 to 7 minutes. Stir in the water and scrape up any brown bits from the bottom of the pan. Turn the heat to low and cook until the onions are golden brown, 30 to 35 minutes, stirring occasionally. If the onions start to look dry, add a tablespoon of water. Do NOT rush this part, let the color develop slowly. Let the onions cool. Combine the cream cheese, mayonnaise, sour cream, Worcestershire, garlic salt, onion powder and pepper in a medium bowl. Beat until smooth with an electric mixer. Stir in the reserved onions. Chill. Serve with sturdy chips. Make about 2 1/2 cups and if you don't eat it all, use it to make a roast beef sandwich and you're welcome.
