12/18/25 Blog: A Healthcare Roundtable, And Trump Gave A Speech

LET'S TALK ABOUT ALTERNATIVES TO OUR BROKEN INSURANCE SYSTEM I've gotten SO MANY questions about Direct Primary Care and Med Share membership based health plans I'm bringing in experts for a healthcare roundtable at 2pm. I've got Dr. John Dygert, founder of Pinnacle Advanced Primary Care, Lisa Fagan, with Smith Medical, and Preston Guthrie with Zion HealthShare to explain how these programs are upending healthcare. We will discuss the nuts and bolts of how they work, why they are different than insurance, and the limitations for each. We will give a complete example of what a patient might expect when using these services and answer your questions about it. Click on each hyperlink above to reach each business, and rethink how your healthcare is paid for and delivered!

TRUMP GAVE A SPEECH LAST NIGHT and it reminded a bit of Angry Joe's speech but without the mood lighting. This speech should have been a speech where the President calmly explained how bad things were and asked the American people to be patient with the economy, but instead it came off as a list of grievances that people were mad about him about that he wanted to rebut. Watch it here.

The biggest news out of the speech was bonuses for active duty service members, ranting about inflation, and blaming Democrats for the healthcare mess. It was a short speech, so there is that.

MORE POWER OUTAGES TODAY And as it's going to be a good bit cooler today I'm sure some of you are going to freeze your tuckuses off. Read if you could be affected here. Here is a longer article explaining how Xcel says this is a "Public Safety Power Shutoff" which should be called a "Liability Mitigation Shutoff" if we're all honest.

HOW XCEL GOES ABOUT SHUTTING OFF POWER Jen Schumann at the Rocky Mountain Voice did a good explainer here on the PUC approved process Xcel uses to shut off power.

GROWING UP IN THE LEGAL WEED ERA IN COLORADO Has this young woman asking Trump NOT to reclassify Marijuana from Schedule I to Schedule III. She makes a good case against it in this column, but I believe this is a fait accompli considering so many states have already legalized and at least this would open up more avenues for serious study on the drug. She talks about the perception that marijuana is the "safe" drug that she says permeated her high school. Lots of adults believe that too. Trump is likely to make the switch soon.

THE COLORADO GOP MUST MOVE ON FROM TINA PETERS 23rd Judicial District DA George Brauchler makes the case to move on from Peters and her well intentioned crime spree if we are to be taken seriously as the law and order party.

DEI IS EMBEDDED IN THE NEW WOMEN'S SOCCER STADIUM I think taking community input when building a massive project in someone's backyard is a good thing. Find out how to make the project the most disruptive and the most helpful it can be for the lives of those directly affected is being a good neighbor. But the newly announced community benefits agreement (CBA) also has DEI nonsense. First off, the stadium is committing to be a LEEDs certified stadium, the first in the country! That will add anything from 2 to 9% to the final cost of the project. Here are some of the things extorted worked out with the team:

Denver Summit will contribute $400,000 in initial funding and will pay at least $300,000 every year “in perpetuity” for community priorities such as youth scholarships, athletics, sports equipment donations, housing stability, business support, environmental programs, local art, cultural preservation, community grants and workforce engagement.

That's nice and a real investment that can have a great impact for the community right next to the stadium. Then there is this:

The agreement also outlines how the team will seek to work with woman-owned and minority-owned businesses. The team committed to reaching out to them for construction of the stadium, aiming to hire at least 25 businesses.
Denver Summit also agreed to select woman-owned and minority-owned businesses to make up at least 25% of all of its food and beverage vendors.

It's sad women and minority owned businesses can't compete on their own merits, and I wonder what happens when there aren't enough vendors or vendors don't deliver but they have a vagina? Just asking.

HUSBANDS, PLEASE DO THIS FOR YOUR WIFE THIS YEAR You know how everyone in the family gets stockings full of treats at Christmas? You know who doesn't? The person who fills the rest of them most of the time. GET YOUR WIFE STOCKING STUFFERS. My husband does this for me every single year.

MIRACLE FLIGHTS ARE AS OLD AS AIRPLANE TRAVEL This was such a common occurrence on some flights when I was a flight attendant we called them Miracle Flights. We'd have 20 people board who were so frail they had to get on the plane early! Look how sickly! But amazingly, upon landing, they were HEALED! Practically leapt off the plane! Now there is an entire article on the people gaming the system.

VOTERS PREFER MODERATES And if they actually voted in the damn primaries maybe we could get some moderates elected. Our current system incentivizes pandering to the most rabid base on both sides, so when I read an article like this I'm just left frustrated by the crappy turnout in the primaries where candidates are chosen. Voters don't want MAGA, and the don't want progressives. Can we just get some Normies in there? Please?

I MISS THE PRESCHOOL ORNAMENTS! I have them all hanging on my tree even though my littlest is 16 now. This ornament idea is the CUTEST!!!

DAN BONGINO IS LEAVING THE FBI And I am fine with this because I'm not sure he added all that much. I will be listening to his first podcast when he cranks that back up though, hoping to hear all the tea. Read more here about that and his replacement.

THE PROGRESSIVE INCOME TAX LEADS TO MORE TAX GIVEAWAYS But only to favored political groups. I've long complained about how the federal tax code is used all the time to reward businesses or donors with favorable treatment in the tax code. You really think politicians come up with all those tax breaks? Of course not. Rob Natelson writes here about the Special Interest Bonanza that will occur if this progressive income tax passes in Colorado. He is 100% right.

WE'RE ALL IMMORAL SCUMBAGS NOW This article is so disheartening. As a parent, and a person, I tell my kid (and myself) that character is what you do when no one is watching and character matters. But in this United States we've decided that as long as we THINK we have a "good reason" for doing something immoral it's okay. There is a line of thinking that says "you can accomplish anything if you can justify it to yourself". Apparently now that covers shoplifting, stealing, and returning things you've already worn. This long article explains it, and even tries to rationalize it as something good here:
Human beings are hardwired for fairness, and when we see an injustice, we instinctively want to rectify it. Evolutionarily, that's served as a deterrent for bad or antisocial behavior — if I'll suffer more than I'll benefit from acting unfairly, I'll think twice.

But we are making decisions on "fairness" that aren't based in reality when steal from Walmart "because they can afford it" while ignoring that those losses are going to be paid for by OTHER CONSUMERS including ourselves.

YOUTUBE GETS THE OSCARS And this one surprised me. Starting in 2029 The Oscars will leave their longtime home of ABC to move the streamer. The deal's value hasn't been released, but Disney didn't even try to lock it up beyond 2028 because the Oscars have been in sharp decline since 2014. I wonder what happened after that? Ha, I know we all got sick of being lectured by celebrities. Read the whole story here.

A CURE FOR AUTOIMMUNE DISORDERS MAY HAPPEN SOON And it is already happening in experimental trials using engineered T cells that actually reset the bodies mechanisms that are causing it to attack healthy tissue, which is the underpinning of autoimmune disorders. Read it here, it's already happening!

TACO BELL BRINGS BACK THE QUESARITO Which is a burrito made with a quesadilla. Read more here about it's limited return and then marvel at how Taco Bell only has like six ingredients and they just keep repackaging them in different ways. It's really genius.

THINK CURIOSITY, NOT CONVINCING This story demonstrates that there is a way to have a political conversation, but it's not yelling and talking over someone. It's using curiosity. If you begin a conversation wanting to learn you are much more likely to have a productive conversation instead of a fight. For me, the key is not thinking about how I'm going to respond. I will also say that when you respond with "Interesting, I hadn't thought about it like that" you can literally see a wall coming down. I know this from experience.

LET'S GO INDIANA BEARS! This would be shocking. The Chicago Bears organization is looking at a site in Northern Indiana to potentially build a new stadium. I can't wait to see if Illinois calls their bluff, which this CLEARLY feels like. That being said Gary, Indiana is only 30 miles from Chicago. That's about the same distance the Miami Dolphins stadium is from Miami. Just saying.

THE GREEN APPLES COMPARISON I PLAYED ON YESTERDAY'S SHOW And if you didn't hear this you need to watch it. OUTSTANDING.
