8/21/25 Blog: Buckle Up For the Big Half Hour Show!

BASEBALL EATS THE SHOW AT 12:30 So buckle up for a speedy half hour.

CITY OF DENVER EMPLOYEES ASK A LOT OF HARD QUESTIONS And is this Mayor's way he didn't answer most of them. During a Power Point presentation to staff yesterday about where the city made cuts a LOT of questions were submitted by employees on the call and @DoBetterDNVR scooped up a bunch of them in this post.

The Mayor didn't answer them of course. It's interesting to me because city workers are reliably Democrat for the most part, and yet, these people are FINALLY raising the concerns we've been talking about on this show for YEARS now. Maybe there is hope.

DEMOCRATS ARE LOSING GROUND IN VOTER REGISTRATION And they are even losing ground across the country. Not here, but I blame the trainwreck of party "leadership" for that issue and hopefully we can rectify it soon. The best part of this story from the New York Times is that young people are registering as Republicans. That is HUGE. Look at some of these stats from a New York Times article where you can almost feel the gnashing of the reporter's teeth:

Last summer, Bucks County, a competitive Philadelphia suburb, tilted Republican in registration for the first time since 2007, according to state records. In the fall, Mr. Trump became the first Republican presidential candidate to carry the county this century.
This spring, it was Miami-Dade County in Florida, where the number of active Republican voters in the county zoomed past Democrats just months after Mr. Trump became the first Republican presidential candidate to carry the county in decades. As recently as November 2020, Democrats outnumbered Republicans there by 200,000.
Statewide, a 1.2 million-voter swing flipped Florida into the Republican column by registration, according to the Times analysis of L2’s data.
North Carolina could be the next battleground state to tip. State records show the Democratic edge there is down to less than 17,000 voters — from nearly 400,000 four years ago.
And Pennsylvania may be on deck.
Democrats held a registration advantage of 517,310 among active voters there in November 2020, according to state records, but that edge dwindled to 53,303 voters this summer.

We're going to do a deep dive on this tomorrow. I asked Chat GPT to show me the difference in voter registration in Colorado between 2010 and 2024 and this is what it gave me:

The party has a lot of work to do but hopefully the way things are is bad enough that people will begin to vote differently. We'll see.

OBAMACARE HAS RUINED CHOICE IN COLORADO As two more insurance companies are leaving the individual insurance market here next year. Why? Probably because doing business here sucks. Insurance companies should be clamoring to insure our health, non-obese population but they can't leave here fast enough. Blame the idiocy of the Colorado Option for a good chunk of this, because our idiot Legislators don't understand market forces and how increased regulatory burdens are just passed onto the consumer. Progressives will blame the subsidy cuts of HR1 but don't let them off the hook. They have built this problem all by themselves.

I CRACKED MYSELF UP WITH THIS TWEET

AURORA PD IS DEALING WITH SEVERAL LAWSUITS And rather than pass judgement without all the facts at hand (imagine that) I present this so we can all follow along to the disposition of these cases, some of which seem worse than others. I think the last few years of Aurora PD just rolling over and not supporting their cops is the reason why some of these suits have been filed but we'll see what happens. I'm tired of Police Departments just settling these cases. Settle if you're wrong, fight it if you're not. I know it seems more expensive, but is it really when settling invites more suits?

THIS SPECIAL SESSION IS ABOUT RAISING TAXES, NOT CUTTING SPENDING And in the Governor's call for the special session he made sure that cuts would not be on the table. You can read the framework he sent out here, and this is what the legislature is limited to in this session. Do you see anything about cutting spending? Nope. Today marks the first day of the session and I fully expect us to get a whole slew of fees and new enterprise funds that are not subject to TABOR from this Legislature.

DON'T LIE, ARE YOU BUYING THESE? As much as people hate on Crocs (because they are undeniably ugly) they are SO DANG COMFORTABLE. And now they come with a bunch of Broncos spirit. Check out the new Broncos Crocs here, and I'll see you at the game in yours.

TRUMP WINS AGAIN This time on deportations to Honduras, Nepal, and Nicaragua. Their Temporary Protected Status was ended by the Trump administration before being blocked by a lower court judge. Now the three judge 9th Court of Appeals has sided with Trump.

REP BRITTANY PETTERSON RUSHES TO THE DEFENSE OF CRIMINAL ALIENS You should probably check the facts before you race out to accuse a governmental agency of wrongdoing but that's what Rep. Petterson did when she alleged that non-citizens who are here legally were being detained by ICE. ICE clarified quickly on the internet and Petterson's office didn't respond to questions. I bet they didn't.

THE NEW COLORADO AI LAW IS A MESS And written by people who have never run a business ever apparently. It puts new onerous requirements on businesses that use AI which is just stupid. These people want to make sure there is NOTHING government doesn't interfere with. They are going to be working on a "fix" for this but our cowardly Governor should have vetoed this crap sandwich and he didn't.

DISNEY'S POST WOKE COLLAPSE This is super interesting.

THE TRUE COST OF HOMELESS FIRES And I'm talking about actual fires in Colorado Spring set by homeless people. This blog post breaks down the real cost of allowing people to live like animals outside.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR COLORADO'S GREEN ENERGY DREAMS? The Trump admin is done with the solar and wind scam. They are cancelling approvals for offshore wind and the USDA says no more solar on good farmland. Read it all here, but if Colorado was counting on Federal subsidies to force more unreliable energy upon us they are going to have to find another way to pay for it.

IT'S TIME FOR THE FAIR! And I realize many people are like EW PUEBLO but I have to tell you I really enjoyed my fair visit. I love seeing the animals and stuff and being at the fair feels like a throwback to when I was a kid. Find out more here.

OR GO TO THE UNICORN FESTIVAL Which is also this weekend along with other stuff in the metro you can find here.

THE REST OF JOSHUA SHARF'S STOLEN JEEP TALE I had Joshua on the show to talk about his car being stolen and when we chatted, he seemed pretty certain that drugs were not smoked in his Jeep. He was wrong, and this is the tale of his ongoing remediation for his Jeep.

JUDGE FRANK CAPRIO HAS DIED And he became an internet sensation for his no nonsense yet compassion filled courtroom. He was 88.

THE FTC IS GOING AFTER LA FITNESS Because they've made it damn near impossible to cancel that gym membership you forgot you had. I went through this year's ago with Bally's and I'm still salty about it.
