A LITTLE SONG FOR YOUR FRIDAY As the Empire Lyric Players are in the for their annual visit. The Gilbert and Sullivan Society is staging one of the duo's most popular operettas, The Mikado. From AI:
Since its premiere in 1885 at the Savoy Theatre in London, The Mikado (or The Town of Titipu) has become one of the most-performed pieces of musical theatre in history. As with many of Gilbert and Sullivan’s productions, the show satirizes aspects of Victorian Britain’s politics and aristocracy; in The Mikado, however, the duo cleverly cloaked these criticisms behind a charming story set not in Britain, but in exotic Japan.
But this year they've given it a little spin we will talk about today. They join me at 2:30 for some song and fun. Buy your tickets for one of the three performances here.
BUBBLES DESERVED THE HALL OF FAME And one of our favorite local tv dude's Justin Adams made it his mission to get Theodore "Bubble" Anderson into the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame. Why? Justin joins me at 1pm to talk about why it is important that this Negro League baseball star get the honor he so richly deserved, even if it was 82 years later. Find out more about Bubbles's story here.
YES, TRUMP IS OLD And he has old person stuff that is wrong with him. After it was noticed that Trump's ankles have swelled and he was seen with makeup which seemed to be covering up bruises on the back of his hand the White House released information about him being diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency, which is when the valves that normally keep the blood up in the veins give out so blood pools in the bottom of the legs. It's very common in older people, especially people who are overweight and thought to be a benign part of aging for some. They also said the daily aspirin he takes caused bruising in his hands from so much handshaking. Both not really a big thing but honesty about a medical condition is a nice change so I thought I'd note it.
ANOTHER DEM ENTERS THE 8TH CONGRESSIONAL RACE And the crowd on that side of the aisle is considerable, which is good for Gave Evans, who so far doesn't have a primary opponent that I'm aware of. This guy has never served before in any capacity and you can read about him here.
WHERE ARE REPUBLICANS TO RUN FOR THESE SEATS? As candidates for legislative races are lining up, where are the Republicans? I realize many of these districts are solidly Democratic now, but we thought that about Pueblo until very recently. If you live in one of these districts and are not crazy, could you run? Anyone?
KISS CAM AT COLDPLAY CATCHES SOME CHEATERS This story is so crazy because of the way it caught fire in a conflagration. The CEO of some tech company I've never heard of got caught on the Kiss Cam at a ColdPlay concert with his arms around a woman who isn't his wife. She's the head of HR at his company (I feel like this is a definite HR violation) and she recently divorced her husband. I'm sure he's happy about that right now. Even as the internet is soaking in the drama, employees and former employees are engaging in more than a bit of schadenfreude because apparently this dude is not a great boss. Word of advice, if you're having an affair, there are cameras in public EVERYWHERE. Do not canoodle in public. There, now go about your business.
COLORADO RIVER ISSUES ARE PARTLY THE FEDS FAULT And this column is so interesting and does a great job pointing out how lousy management by the Feds is actually reducing the amount of water in the Colorado River for states to fight about. Read it here.
AREN'T WE TIRED OF SOFT ON CRIME DA'S YET? The Arapahoe County DA is awful. Just awful. Here Jimmy Sengenberger lays out the many ways Arapahoe County DA Amy Padden is just as bad as former Denver DA Beth McCann and he's 100% right.
A NEW LAWSUIT OVER THE FORCED SPEECH IN THE KELLY LOVING ACT In Colorado it is not illegal to call someone the wrong gender. So the next time I'm in a drive thru and get "Sir" I'm causing a ruckus! No, I won't because I don't care. But some transgender people decided they needed the force of law to protect their feelings and Colorado obliged. Now a Christian used bookstore in Colorado Springs is suing over being forced to say something they don't believe. I'm interested to see how this all turns out.
IF YOU LOVE PUBLIC RADIO, TIME TO DONATE I have no ill will towards public radio, I just don't want them to get MY MONEY I make working for the competition in the form of tax dollars. Now that the recissions package has cleared the House local stations will lose federal funding so if you love them, donate.
STEVE MILLER CANCELS TOUR FOR DUMBASS REASON Talk about finding something to blame. I have no idea why the 81 year old rocker REALLY wanted to cancel the tour, but this is what he put out:
“The combination of extreme heat, unpredictable flooding, tornadoes, hurricanes and massive forest fires make these risks for you our audience, the band and the crew unacceptable,” Miller, 81, said in a statement posted on the band's social media accounts Wednesday. “You can blame it on the weather. ... The tour is cancelled.”
We're all adults, Steve, we can decide if we can handle the weather. This is just dumb.
WHY ARE YOUNG PEOPLE GETTING COLON CANCER? No one seems to know why gastrointestinal cancers are rising in young people but they are. There is no leading theory now, but researchers are looking at adolescent consumption of sugary beverages, changes in gut microbiome, and consumption of ultra processed foods along with alcohol and obesity as factors. It seems to be hitting black and Hispanic folks hardest. The very bad news is that these cancers that appear early seem to be more deadly even though young people often get more aggressive treatment. There is a lot we don't know here.
STEPHEN COLBERT GETS CANNED And the late night lefties are SOOOOPER mad. CBS says it was just a budget decision and that they are exiting the late night market, but pals like Jimmy Kimmel are linking it to Colbert's recent monologue blasting the parent company of CBS for settling a lawsuit filed by Trump over the editing of an interview with Kamala Harris during the campaign. I genuinely don't care about any of this.
THE SO-CALLED PRINCESS TREATMENT ISN'T CONTROVERSIAL Good grief, now we're fighting about men treating their partners well. Have you heard about the "princess treatment"? It's when men do things like open doors for their women, or buy them flowers, or give them their coat if they are cold. It's chivalry, people, and it's how my husband treats me. Why is this controversial? Because social media, that's why. This is a whole story about online fighting about whether or not this and the "trad wife" influencers are selling the work of the patriarchy and it's all so stupid I can't even. This is what happens when we stop letting men be men so when they are we are confused.
TGIF, EREBODY! You need to read Nellie Bowles column today.
105 IS TOO LATE, BUT... You still have time.

WHAT AN ANTICLIMACTIC DEATH The guy who literally jumped from the edge of space in a death defying stunt has stopped defying death. Felix Baumgartner died when his paraglider fell to earth near a pool in Italy. He was 56.
WHY WE ARE STUCK WITH HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP This article is designed to take the blame for the use of High Fructose Corn Syrup off of tariffs and onto another government policy that made corn incredibly cheap. Both are at fault, and they are wrong when they say sugar tariffs were first levied in 1934. That is completely wrong, the first sugar tariffs were levied in 1789 as part of the very first tariffs levied in our fledgling nation. But whatever. They are right though that government subsidies of the corn industry made high fructose corn syrup (which became widely adopted at about the same time we all started getting fat but I'm sure there is no connection) super cheap. You can read it here, even though I disagree wholeheartedly that one government intervention was more damaging than the other government intervention. The bigger point is that government intervention always seems to mess stuff up.
THE REAL STORY ABOUT HORMONE REPLACEMENT THERAPY And after you watch this call Regen Revolution to get your hormones checked and fixed. It is LIFE CHANGING.
