Four detainees have escaped from the immigration facility Delaney Hall in Newark, New Jersey. Details surrounding the escape remain unclear as authorities work to gather more information.
According to NJ.com, the detainees were angry about the detoriating conditions inside the facility and they became violent after their meals were delayed by several hours. Around 50 detainees managed to knock down a temporary wall, leading to the escape of four inidividuals.
“It’s about the food, and some of the detainees were getting aggressive and it turned violent,” immigration lawyer Mustafa Cetin told the outlet. “Based on what he told me it was an outer wall, not very strong, and they were able to push it down.”
The incident has prompted an immediate response from local law enforcement and immigration officials. Efforts are underway to locate the escapees and ensure the safety of the community.
The escape has raised concerns about security measures at the facility, which houses individuals awaiting immigration proceedings. Authorities are conducting a thorough investigation to determine how the escape occurred and to prevent future incidents.
Local residents are advised to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities. The public is urged to cooperate with law enforcement as they continue their search for the escapees.
