DEMOCRATS HAVE KILLED REAL ESTATE DEVELOPMENT IN DENVER This story is incredibly important. It's a story about how the new green energy retrofitting standards and requirements are driving real estate development not just out of the city, but out of the state entirely. Read this pull quote:
“I’m the biggest evangelist that Denver has ever had, and I can’t do business in Denver now,” developer Andrew Feinstein, the CEO and managing partner of EXDO Group, which is heavily involved in Denver’s burgeoning RiNo district, told The Denver Gazette last week.
The problem is that the multiple laws have been adopted that order building owners to reduce greenhouse emissions dramatically, cost be damned. The lawmakers, all Democrats, aren't the least bit concerned about how these massive upgrades are going to be paid for and the answer right now is, they won't be. Developers are balking not only at the huge price tags, which will all be passed on to renters and lease holders, and are taking their business elsewhere. This is the sort of thing that the Colorado GOP needs to use as an attack point to rally the business community around Republican candidates. More importantly, it will contribute to the death spiral of downtown which seems to be taking hold. We shall discuss today.
I'M DOING A LITTLE SURVEY About the food at Coors Field. If you went to a game this weekend I'd love for you to answer it by clicking here.
I'll share results tomorrow.
IT'S TIME TO END THE LAWSUITS BY THE GOP That is what's being argued by Dick Wadhams here. Though I agree with the concept that political parties should have the right to nominate their own candidates, I'm afraid that ship has sailed for Colorado. We have way too many Unaffiliated voters, and yes they mostly vote with Democrats but not all do. And THOSE voters need to be gone after. Read the column here. I've been waffling on this a lot but the path forward for the party is not to shun unaffiliateds. This part convinced me though:
Taking those rights away defies common sense and logic given the dramatic changes in the Colorado electorate in the past 10 years and the struggle for Republicans to win.
After decades of Colorado being almost evenly divided into partisan thirds, unaffiliated voters now represent 49% of the electorate (1,990,552), with Democrats at 26% (1,041,598), and Republicans a distant third at 23% (942,120).
Those numbers are not good for Republicans. It's not time to lock more people out. Hopefully Brita Horn can navigate this sensibly, although I know currently she is committed to pursuing this. I wish they would survey more Republicans on this issue. The Second lawsuit was filed by the Williams regime against members who had the nerve to use the bylaws to try and oust Williams. You can read more about that, but as one of the people named in the lawsuit after being duly elected by the State Central Committee this doesn't make any sense to waste any more money here.
THE MAYOR'S OFFICE HAS BEEN DELETING MORE SIGNAL MESSAGES There is no reason for a government official to use an encrypted app that deletes messages unless they are hiding something from the public, and yet the Mayor's office has now admitted to doing that in TWO SEPARATE CHATS. The Mayor says he's committed to transparency but his actions say otherwise. And I love that Brian Maass went to a public event to force the Mayor to comment because the Mayor wasn't available for an interview. His answer about "every communication being open to CORA" is accurate but totally misleading. Aurora Mayor Mike Coffman says this is the "least transparent official" in state history. He said Johnston is "dedicated to not being transparent". Deeds not words, Mayor.
IF YOU MISSED ME WITH ROSS FRIDAY You really should listen to this interview with Secretary of Energy Chris Wright, it was really good.
A JUDGE STOPS A RESERVOIR EXPANSION And though the expansion is 60% done a judge sided with environmental groups who say corners were cut in the permitting process. This is a fine example of why any sort of infrastructure project is a nightmare. Denver Water got all the approvals they needed from a myriad of government sources and yet, a judge can still stop work AFTER the dam is already well under construction. No wonder everything costs so much. There should be a limit of how long these suits can run and a limit on when work can be interfered with. You can read it here.
WILL THE GOVERNOR LISTEN TO 95,000 COLORADANS? We'll see if he vetoes the more onerous gun bill in the nation after getting 95,000 petitions signed by Coloradans who want him to have the courage to do so. That's not the only gun bill this session, there are ton more. Find them all here.
THE INCOMPETENT JENA GRISWOLD IS RUNNING FOR ATTORNEY GENERAL And after watching her mismanage the Secretary of State's office I sure hope the GOP can field a formidable candidate to stop here from ascending to this role. Read more here.
JON CALDARA YEARNS FOR LIBERALS And he's not wrong when he says the hard left progressives have taken over the party, especially in Colorado. Read it here.
