4/2/25 Blog: Weather, Climate Lawfare, And The Colorado Legislature Covered

UGH THIS WEATHER THOUGH Fox 31's Dave Fraser is on at 12:30 and we'll get the latest on the deteriorating forecast for Friday's home opener for the Rockies, when yours truly will be sitting outside at the corner of 20th and Blake from 9am to noon.

DR MATTHEW WIELICKI DOES IRRATIONAL FEARS And though he hasn't covered my fear of running out of toilet paper (which was completely shown to be accurate during Covid, btw) but he covers a LOT of other irrational fears and more at his most excellent Substack here. His coverage of the fraud and abuse of the Biden Administration's EPA is what directed me to him, especially this column. He joins me at 1 to talk about it and it's as bad as I've always suspected. When you inject billions of dollars into something it's going to attract this sort of nonsense.

KEVIN LUNDBERG LAYS OUT RATIONAL FEARS But he doesn't call them such, he merely reports on what the Legislature in Colorado is doing to us this year in his once weekly Lundberg Report, which you can find here. He joins me at 2:30 to talk about it.

DEMOCRATS SUE OVER THE TAXPAYERS BILL OF RIGHTS We knew this was coming and here it is. The mechanism that slows the growth of government and forbids lawmakers from raising taxes on us without our permission is officially under attack. The very popular bill is going to have to be defended from a new lawsuit filed by the Colorado Legislature, along party lines of course. The Democrats contend it is unconstitutional even though voters PUT IT in the Colorado Constitution. Their argument is that voters elect lawmakers to represent them when it comes to raising taxes and spending, but the reality is there is nothing that says WE the voters can't limit what they can do to us. My worry is our liberal justices on the Colorado Supreme Court have already shown they are willing to look the other way when lawmakers call a tax a fee so they may bite on this one.

SUGGESTING YOUR KID MAY JUST BE CONFUSED CAN LOSE YOU CUSTODY If a bill passes in Colorado. The bill is HB25-1312 and it specifically says that:

when making child custody decisions and determining the best interests of a child for purposes of parenting time, a court shall consider deadnaming, misgendering, or threatening to publish material related to an individual's gender-affirming health-care services as types of coercive control.

This is so incredibly wrong. At a time when we know way more via the Cass Report about how a vast majority of kids will come to terms with their natal gender when JUST LEFT ALONE this is beyond criminal. It's forcing a parent to accept something that sends a kid down a rabbit hole of medicalization when a VAST MAJORITY of them will be just fine without it. It also makes misgendering or deadnaming someone a violation of the Colorado Anti Discrimination Act, which is used regularly to bludgeon people like Jack Philips. The custody part should concern any parent though because this is the state saying we're going to take your kid if you want to get them therapy that could help them be comfortable with their own bodies. They did strike the part that requires government to use chosen names though, how convenient for them.

HAMAS TORTURES AND MURDERS A PROTESTER I mentioned this yesterday in passing, but I want all those idiot college students who are out yelling for Intifada to understand the monsters they are supporting. I mentioned the protests that sprang up last week in the Gaza Strip where people were shouting Down with Hamas and other such slogans. All these people have been disarmed by Hamas, so they can't ACTUALLY fight. This is the story of how one of the leaders of that protest, a young man named Uday Nasser Saadi al-Rabbay was kidnapped, tortured, murdered and then hid body thrown off a building with a note attached that said:

“This is the price for all who criticize Hamas.”

His mother found his body. You really should read the interview with his family here. These are the monsters that college students are supporting by coming here and exercising the same kind of free speech this man just died at the hands of Hamas for.

SANITY PREVAILS AT THE COLORADO GOP And Jimmy Sengenberger writes a great column about it here.

DENVER'S SCHOOL BOARD DOES NOT NEED TO EXTEND MARRERO'S CONTRACT For some reason, the current school board is considering a contract extension for Superintendent Alex Marrero. Why? He's got over a YEAR left on his contract and there are school board elections coming up this year. What is the rush? My guess is the current board wants to tie the hands of any potential new board but I genuinely don't know why. What has Marrero done for student achievement? The racial gap? School safety? Has he done ANYTHING significant enough that the board should lock him down? He's already the highest paid super in the state in a very low performing district. Parents need to tell this board to wait until the new board is seated. Don't tie their hands if they have better ideas.

COME SEE ME AND ROSS FRIDAY MORNING! Because you know we're going to be freezing our tuckuses off at the corner of 20th and Blake for the Home Opener.

COLORADO RAN OUT OF OTHER PEOPLE'S MONEY And Sean Duffy reaffirms here what I said yesterday about spending in Colorado and the Legislature demanding more of our money instead of spending it more wisely.

COLORADO IS SUING TO KEEP THE FEDERAL GRAVY TRAIN GOING After the Department of Health and Human Services terminated a bunch of grants that were allegedly for Covid response. This is my favorite part of the story on how Attorney General Phil Weiser is suing the federal government to get the money anyway:

“The COVID-19 pandemic is over, and HHS will no longer waste billions of taxpayer dollars responding to a non-existent pandemic that Americans moved on from years ago,” the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services said in a statement.

I mean, they aren't wrong.

RIP VAL KILMER And as a GenXer this one hurts. RIP, Iceman. RIP, Batman. You'll always be my huckleberry.

A LOVELAND CITY COUNCIL MEMBER BEHAVES BADLY In a meeting in a park with a constituent. She brought a squad of people with her to intimidate the constituent, who does cop to bad behavior online. Watch this for more, but be warned, it's full of bad language from all parties.

First off, grown men posturing to fight is so stupid. Seriously grow up. Do any of the people in this video feel proud of themselves? Are they pleased with this outcome? The Loveland City Council passed an amendment asking her to step down. We'll see if she finally does something decent and obliges them.

NUCLEAR IS ADDED TO COLORADO'S ENERGY PORTFOLIO But only as a possible source of green energy, which is the first step to making it a reality. We're a long way away, but this is a good first step.

REPUBLICANS ARE DONE BEING PUNCHING BAGS There is a definite shift in DC when it comes to Republican politicians being harassed by various left wing activists, this time, a fired federal worker.

HOW TO BEAT A TOLL LANE VIOLATION If you're thinking this is gonna be easy, it's not. As a matter of fact it took a trial attorney who understood the absurd hoops set up to do so. You can read it here, but I don't expect a bunch of people to be able to do this too.

ABOUT THAT "VACCINE SCIENTIST" QUITTING The level of disinformation being spread about the resignation of Dr. Peter Marks from the FDA is almost stunning but I'm so used to it by now it's no biggie. If you saw reports that the FDA's "top vaccine scientist" was shoved out the door, take them with a huge grain of salt. This column explains the myriad of ways Dr. Marks contorted and DEFIED science as he rushed the Covid vaccine into use by ignoring all prior scientific processes while firing people who complained. He was a political hack and not even a vaccine scientist.

IN THE MOOD FOR A STEAK? Here are the best steakhouses in the metro, according to Yelp. Let's just say I disagree with the Yelpers as I've never heard of #1.

CLASSIC MOVIES CRITICS HATED WHEN THEY CAME OUT And they wonder why we don't listen to the critics. Find them here.

ANOTHER HERO'S THANK YOU!

a

DETAILS ON THE NEXT SPIDER MAN MOVIE ARE OUT And Tom Holland has given up the name here. I like him as Spider Man. I'm glad he's doing another movie.

NO CHAIN GANGS IN THE NFL ANYMORE I've always thought it was comical when the chain gang trotted out onto the field to give a dramatic measurement to see if the arbitrarily placed ball was a first down. That charade is officially over, as the NFL will be using the Hawkeye technology to determine if a first down is reached. I'm not sure this does anything about the arbitrary spot of the ball, which is the real issue.

CHAPPELL ROAN IS DOWN ON KIDS And has created a kerfuffle by saying she doesn't know anyone with kids that is happy. This is just stupid but she's a pop star so who cares?

PHYSICS TO GET YOUR KETCHUP How do people need a video for this? Watch below or click here. And it's centrifugal. Just a point of order.

BUY TICKETS TO A CONCERT TO SEE...SOMEONE??? Part of me admires this guy, whose first Fyre Festival will go down in history as one of the greatest ripoffs of all time. He went to prison for it. But he's BACK, baby! And he's selling tickets to Fyre Festival 2, featuring performers like...well, watch this.

THERE WILL BE THREE NFL GAMES ON CHRISTMAS DAY And I can only imagine how HAPPY even MORE players will be to have to play on Christmas. Read it here, but we won't know the games until the schedules are announced.
