CONGRESSMAN THOMAS MASSIE JOINS ME TODAY You guys know I love him from my time in Kentucky and MAN some of you were mad at him for his vote on the Continuing Resolution (which was a resounding NO) and I sure hope you listen to him talk about his reasons why. If you still have an issue after he explains than I dare say you are not serious about slowing government spending. He's on at 1pm. If you're on X you should follow him here.
THE WORST GUN BILL YET PASSES And our Overlords in the Legislature have now created a labyrinth of new regulations that I'm guessing will put a bunch of gun stores out of business, which is clearly the intent. It will do nothing to stop crime and will likely made anyone who is poor and wants a firearm for protection unable to afford it. It creates a new bureaucracy that is designed solely to dissuade LEGAL gun ownership. It is garbage and I think clearly unconstitutional and I'm hoping someone is gearing up to sue. Colorado Democrats really believe that legal gun owners are THIS CLOSE to going on a shooting spree at any time, as they now require a gun safety class before buying certain weapons, many of which are extremely common. This is absolutely horrible. The bill is absolute crap, and Democrats truly don't care about your gun rights. They HATE THEM and they HATE you for wanting to protect them. This Legislature is exactly why we HAVE gun rights. They run roughshod over the citizens and expect us to take it. This is why we need a functioning Republican party.
WE'VE LANDED A BIG HQ IN COLORADO But it's not the one we want, it's Tren de Aragua, which the DEA says has made Colorado it's HQ in the United States. I wonder why they came here? Could it have been the welcome mat laid out by the Mayor of Denver? Could it be the free housing and support provided by Denver? Or maybe it's the huge population of illegal immigrants they know they can prey on without anyone calling the cops? Who knows. I'm sure it's just a coincidence.
A MAN MAY BE IN PRISON BECAUSE MISSY WOODS LIED The story of the former head of the CBI's lab who is now facing a slew of charges for falsifying her work on criminal cases is perhaps seeing it's first wrongful conviction. A man convicted of murder back in 2012 has always maintained his innocence in the murder that took place in the 90s. However Missy Woods had declared his DNA was found in a jar of Carmex at the scene, and he was the top suspect. A retest of her work has now EXCLUDED the man and his attorneys will now have an evidentiary hearing to enter this into the record to see if they can free him. What an awful story. What an awful woman.
DENVER PUBLIC SCHOOLS NOT INTERESTED IN THEIR OWN SCHOOL SHOOTING This column by Jimmy Sengenberger is appalling and yet, I am not surprised in the slightest. The long and short of it is this, what has DPS learned from the shooting at East High that almost killed two administrators? One can only assume nothing, as they haven't ever done an internal investigation into the shooting. No one has talked to teachers that were directly involved. Now one has asked questions about how this could happen. More importantly, no one as asked questions to prevent it from happening again. The incompetence of the Superintendent, who is about to get another contract extension, is mind blowing. Kids can't read or do math, and now a shooting just happens with no investigation? DPS is the world's most expensive joke.
STEVE BANNON IS THE PERFECT CLOWN FOR THE CLOWN SHOW GOP And I don't normally agree with Eric Sondermann so wholeheartedly but with this column I am in lockstep. The Republican party inviting political grifter and con artist Steve Bannon to speak at their largest dinner of the year is exactly on brand for the hyper incompetent GOP leadership who have done their best to run normal Republicans out of the party. This weekend Republicans will vote on their leadership and we'll see if they course correct or continue to bring the most divisive parts of the GOP to the forefront to remind Colorado voters that they don't want to vote for them. We'll see.
NO, WE DON'T NEED TO MAKE POT SALES EASIER On practically the same day the Legislature made it harder to buy a gun they began working on a bill to make it much easier for someone to buy a large quantity of pot to turn around and sell it to middle schoolers. It makes it easier to pot stores to have plausible deniability if they sell to someone underage. It reduces the number of security cameras in pot store. All under the guise of helping an industry that is having growing pains as the market is saturated and businesses are failing. Does any of that seem like it's necessary? How about they learn how to compete or they go under like normal businesses? I'm not anti pot store but all this seems shady as hell.
CITY OF DENVER JUST RAISED YOUR TAXES Only they call the 911 tax a fee so they don't have to worry about TABOR. Read more here. Oh, and they created a new paid city worker holiday. Of course they did.
TRUMP ASKS THE SUPREMES FOR A RULING ON FIRINGS And when things get to the Supreme Court we will pay attention, as they are going to have to rule on whether or not these unelected federal judges have the right to shut down the sitting President of the United States. Read more here.
A MAGAZINE EDITOR HAS ENTERED THE CHAT There are a lot of things that can go wrong as people take new positions in an administration. I did not have "add the editor of The Atlantic to an encrypted chat about bombing the Houthis" on my radar, but here we are. The sheer sloppiness of this is mindblowing, and why are they using an encrypted app to make war plans in the first place? And how many OTHER people have been added to chats and simply not said anything? What a self inflicted wound that certainly doesn't inspire confidence. This column goes deeper on the underpinnings of this mess, and that is the Administrations view of Iran and the Houthis and what we're going to do about both. This, as the Houthis are launching attacks of their own after the airstrikes in Yemen against them. We are tiptoeing towards war here.
THE SENATE COULD STYMIE TRUMP'S AGENDA And of course it will. Republicans in the Senate aren't in a mood to help pass a Trump agenda based budget that would do what people elected him to do, which is shrink the size of government. Read more here, but remember this when I talk to Thomas Massie.
WHY DON'T WE LEARN FROM OUR OWN FAILURES WITH LIGHT RAIL? Randal O'Toole must feel like the ancient Greek priestess Cassandra, who was fated to tell true prophecies that no one believed. In this column he recounts his objections to light rail and how those objections have been largely held true in the years since voters got suckered into voting for a super expensive and ineffective light rail system. Now he's sounding the alarm on the further expansion of light rail and he's right again.
THE LAST MINUTE AIRPORT THING IS STUPID I'm old enough to have spent too much time running through airports, sometimes with kids in tow, because something went wrong on the way to my flight. I'm certainly not going to test the theory that you don't need to get to the airport as early as airlines tell you. That is unless I am flying out of a tiny airport that doesn't even have moving sidewalks, in which case I may get there an hour early instead of two. Don't be an idiot. And no, you can't skip me in the TSA line. You should have planned better. Watch below or click here.
ANOTHER A HERO'S THANK YOU FOR YOU These are just so good. I love honoring veterans and first responders.
JEWISH GROUPS SUE STUDENT PROTEST LEADERS This is an interesting addition to the ongoing story about campus protesters and their allegiance with Hamas. Jewish groups have filed suit against several of them for providing "material support" to the terror designated group Hamas. This kind of suit has been successful in the past so we'll see what happens here.
KIDS GLUED TO SCREENS GROW INTO DEPRESSED TEENS This is pretty compelling and should be added to the evidence that smartphones and devices are not good for kids. From the article:
The data painted a clear picture: teenagers who had accumulated more total screen time and mobile device use throughout childhood showed significantly higher levels of stress and depressive symptoms. The connection between mobile device use and depression was particularly strong, showing a “moderate effect size”—substantial in behavioral research terms.
But that's not all, look at this:
Physical activity told the opposite story. Teens who maintained higher activity levels during childhood, especially in supervised settings like sports or structured exercise programs, showed better mental health outcomes. This protective effect remained significant even after researchers accounted for factors like parental education, body composition, and puberty status.
That physical activity effect is stronger in boys than girls, but still significant.
