DEMOCRATS RALLY AROUND MEDICAID let me get the cynical part out of the way first. Democrats have lost working class voters and have become the party of college educated elites who rarely adhere to the social mandates pushed by Democrats. So what is the party to do? It seems they've decided to glom onto a package of cuts that would include Medicaid to scare people who are part of the Obamacare Medicaid expansion. The problem with the Obamacare Medicaid expansion is that it gave benefits to a bunch of able bodied people instead of the poor and elderly people it was designed for, which has exploded the costs of the program at the state and federal level. Colorado just gave benefits to illegal immigrants! Now the Democrats are running around making statements like this one from Polis. The problem is, there are ZERO details on ANY cuts. ZERO. Polis is just pulling this out of his rear end. We shall discuss. What I find interesting is the notion that Single Payer Healthcare is remotely doable. We can't even cover Medicaid and Medicare costs now.
COLORADO'S INSURER OF LAST RESORT IS ALMOST UP AND RUNNING I've seen a lot of people on Next Door talking about the fact they have been dropped by their home insurer. Now Colorado is going to offer limited insurance of last resort with a state run option. They will only cover up to $795,000 for residential though. In Florida, 15% of homes are covered by this sort of state run operation, and I'm wondering how many people in very high risk areas are going to end up in Colorado's option. Considering most mountain homes are MORE than that in value this could create some interesting under insurance situations.
COLORADO DEMS IGNORE COMMITTEE TO CONFIRM RADICAL That is what the headline should be here about the re appointment of a radical animal rights activist with close ties to the Governor to the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Board. First, the committee voted AGAINST his re appointment, and considering the committees are STACKED with Dems this should sound the alarm. But no, the Senate Democrats ignored their own committee and re appointed him. Of course they did.
BOULDER DEMOCRATS ANNOINT ANOTHER REP This time to replace the resigned in disgrace Sonya Jacquez-Lewis. They chose a Democrat insider who hates oil and gas, says she will fight to preserve Medicaid, and as a renter will fight for affordable housing. Great, she will fit right in.
BAD GOVERNMENT MAKES STRANGE BEDFELLOWS It seems there is one thing that can unite voters from across the political spectrum: when government tries to hide their work. METRO TEACHERS CARE MORE ABOUT PROTESTING THAN TEACHING That is the only way to explain why multiple districts are going to be closed Thursday so teachers can descend on the Capitol to protest for something. Denver Public Schools is closing a majority of schools, while Boulder Valley and Adams-12 are closing ALL the schools. They say too many teachers put in for PTO so they have to close. Here's a thought. Say no to the PTO requests. Problem solved. They could have EASILY scheduled the rally for Saturday, like other organizations do, but they didn't. They want to inconvenience parents to get their way.
SOMEONE RANG THE FISH DOORBELL I love this quirky story from the Netherlands. From the article:
Every spring, the Oudegracht in the Dutch city of Utrecht sees thousands of native freshwater fish swimming upstream as they look for a place to lay their eggs. Those fish can get held up, however, by a river lock – and that's where the Fish Doorbell is installed.
When someone spots fish and "rings the bell," it alerts staff who can let the fish through. Otherwise, they could be easy prey for predators, experts say.
