3/10/25 Blog: It's Spring Forward Monday, Try Not To Die

TRY NOT TO DIE TODAY As we navigate the first work days after Spring Forward where we needlessly harm our bodies and our sleep doing something stupid and unnecessary. #keepdaylightsaving Just read this part:

According to a 2020 study published in the PLOS Computational Biology journal, researchers found four prominent, elevated risk clusters associated with the time changes that occur in November and March: cardiovascular diseases, injuries, mental and behavioral disorders, and immune-related diseases, such as colitis, an inflammation of the colon. While the majority of disease risk elevations were relatively modest — only a few percentage points higher than normal — some negative health effects spiked up to 10%.
The study estimated that each spring shift was associated with 150,000 incidences of negative health effects in the U.S. and 880,000 globally.
“Studies show a 24% rise in heart attacks on the Monday following the transition” and an overall elevated risk for a two-week period afterward, said Kristina Lenker, assistant professor of psychiatry and behavioral science at the Penn State College of Medicine.

Let's stop this stupidity. Please.

A PIG SHOOT IS COMING UP THIS WEEKEND But not ACTUAL pigs just paper ones. It's another fun event put on by COFA that helps kids and adults get outside and learn to be outdoorspeople. Find out more here. Mike and Leslie from COFA pop in at 1 to chat about it.

DUELING CONSTRUCTION DEFECTS BILLS UNDER THE GOLD DOME We need to watch both of these bills, one that would perhaps end the gridlock when it comes to building affordable multi-family units, and one that would give the trial lawyers more reason to sue. To be clear, I am NOT anti-trial lawyer, as my own father was one. But I've not seen laws so constructed to help the trial lawyer industry that have had such a horrible negative effect on an entire state before, and one that frankly, most trial lawyers don't feel the effects of as they aren't stuck trying to buy affordable housing. They need to back off on this one. Read more here about the two different bills.

DUELING LABOR MEASURES WILL BE ON THE BALLOT We will have the choice on 2026 to decide whether or not we are Right to Work state or a state where a union member can't be fired without spelling out "just cause". To be clear, the "just cause" CAN be business is down. But if you fire a union member they can also turn around and sue you VERY easily and end up costing you a TON of money. No one asked for a labor fight, but it looks like we're going to get one. The other ballot initiative simply says that unions can't take your money unless you consent, which is horrible for unions who count on being able to extort money from everyone even if they don't want to give it. We'll see if the horrid changes to our current labor law make it out of the Legislature this year and then we'll see if Polis does the right thing and vetoes it.

ANOTHER REPUBLICAN JOINS THE RACE FOR CHAIR Now that Dave Williams has self selected himself out, more Republicans are joining the fray, the latest is Richard Holtorf. Richard is an affable guy but my big issue with Richard is I'm not sure what his plan to not only bring the party together is or his plan to woo independents to vote for the party. I am honestly tired of platitudes about "bringing the party together" I need details of how you make that happen. Holtorf was one of the many screwed over by the Williams endorsements in the primary, so he's obviously not beloved by that wing of the party. We'll see what he brings to the table at the state convention, I guess.

NO ONE IS INSPECTING GENITALS AT COUNTY PARKS Some smarty pants hung up signs at county parks that say random genital inspections will be done by JeffCo Sheriff's deputies. Obviously, this is not true but it required a news story for some to get that.

JON CALDARA HAS LITTLE SYMPATHY FOR FIRED FEDERAL WORKERS And honestly, my is already worn thin. After working in an industry that has been decimated (and I'm using that word correctly here) by layoffs for the last ten years the drama around the firing of federal workers has been over the top. Don't get me wrong, I'm sorry anyone loses their job, it sucks and is really hard. But why are federal jobs sacred? Why are there protests for these people and these people only when they lose their jobs? It's nonsensical unless you believe government is God and they are destroying the church. That's the question Jon asks here.

COULD A REPUBLICAN WIN THE GOVERNOR'S RACE? The answer is never say never in this column by Dick Wadhams.

LYING TO THE COURT IS NO BIG DEAL NOW Robin Niceta, the former child protective services worker who called in a fake claim about Danielle Jurinsky abusing her toddler, then lied to the court about having a brain tumor to try and get out of it. She concocted an elaborate, if poorly executed, scheme to get out of her trial for that and now a judge thinks that's just fine and gave her three years probation. What a joke.

THAT RECESSION I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR MAY FINALLY BE HERE And the only thing that remains to be seen is whether or not Congress will jump in to "DO SOMETHING" instead of letting it play out as it needs to. The Biden hiring and spending extravaganza juiced the numbers and now that that fraud is over the recession I've been waiting for three years may be upon us. Read more here.

EUROPE MOVES BOLDLY AHEAD WRONGLY AND CONFIDENTLY This is a great column by David Strom about Europe FINALLY getting that THEY need to prepare to defend themselves instead of lazily relying on us to foot the bill for their defense. It's worth the read and be sure and listen to the sound bites embedded in it.

USAID IS OFFICIALLY OVER As Secretary of State Marco Rubio tweeted this out:

I'm cool with that.

IS HOOKING UP WITH A SEX ROBOT CHEATING? hooboy is this an interesting question. It seems that the key to it NOT be cheating is if the sex robot is made to LOOK like the partner being left out. Interesting.
