WE WILL STILL HAVE WEATHER WEDNESDAY ON OUR SHORT SHOW Because why not? Fox 31's Dave Fraser joins me at 12:30 to answer your weather questions.
TRUMP THUMPS JOHNSTON'S LAW FIRM And to be clear, he doesn't WORK with the law firm, he HIRED the law firm to hold his hand while he testifies in Congress about Denver Sanctuary policies. It seems the law firm has been busy, and yesterday President Trump stripped the security clearances held by employees of Covington and Burling, the same firm hired by Johnston. What did they do? They provided $140,000 worth of pro bono work to Jack Smith for his politically motivated prosecutions of Donald Trump. They are also representing Jack Smith in any investigations he may be facing. I wonder if they are charging him $2 million for a years worth of work.
DEMOCRATS WANT TO MAKE BUYING AMMO A TOTAL PAIN IN THE YOU KNOW WHAT They are never going to rest until they make owning a gun so inconvenient that people just give up. Now Democrats are solving another problem that doesn't exist by making it a HUGE pain in the ass to sell or buy ammunition. You can read it here but there are not enough Republicans to stop this and I fully expect it to pass. Elections matter.
COLORADO'S BUDGET SHORTFALL IS BECAUSE OF OVERSPENDING Did you know that in the last six years we've added 17 new state offices and over 7,000 new state employees? Is it any surprise that we've busted our budget? Now the "shortfall" is over a BILLION dollars and Democrats don't want to cut a single thing so they are going to poor mouth and ask for more money. I bet voters say no. This is a good article on what's happening and can we all say a huge THANK YOU to Barb Kirkmeyer for continuing to try to wrangle this crap under control? I will get Barb on the show to discuss when the show is longer.
UNION DEMONSTRATES IGNORANCE ABOUT BUSINESS In a discussion about how to give restaurants, who are being put of business by our insanely high minimum wage among other issues, some relief, a union rep showed just how little union folks know about business. Restaurants are asking for a tip credit to offset some of the minimum wage they must pay, which has always been the case for tipped employees, they are just asking for a bigger tip credit. Check this quote out:
“Let’s be clear: HB 1208 is a wage cut, plain and simple … as much as $8,000 per year,” said True Apodaca, political director for the SEIU Local 105 union. “Restaurants say they already have about a 3% profit margin … It would seem to me they have a faulty business model and need to fix their business model first.” (emphasis mine)
This is the kind of quote that makes me hate unions. The union rep, who has probably never created a job in this lifetime, is lecturing business owners who put it ALL on the line to start a business here about how they do it. I hope this passes because way back when when I and many others said that this minimum wage increase would destroy businesses I didn't want to be right but here we are. We've already lost 21,000 restaurant jobs in the past three years, none of which are able to join this stupid union. I'm not sure why this person doesn't understand that.
HOW BAD IS THE NEW GUN BILL? It's morphed considerably since being introduced, as we expected it would. Why would I say that? Tom Sullivan is well versed in the Trumpian strategy of coming out with something SO BAD that when it changes into something SLIGHTLY LESS BAD we're all supposed to be grateful. He's done that with this bill, and Ari Armstrong writes about it here.
AURORA VOTERS WILL HAVE SOME CHOICES TO MAKE People are lining up in droves to seek a seat on the Aurora City Council. There are a lot of staunch left wingers in this list, and if they win, the progress Aurora has made is at risk. We'll be talking to candidates to find out what their vision is for Aurora because I think Aurora is headed in a good direction right now and I'd like to see that continue, but I'm always interested to hear where they believe things could be better and how that might look.
GET YOUR HANDS OFF MY GAS STOVE This is a great column by Sean Duffy about a measure by Advance Colorado that would prevent any government from banning gas stoves and appliances. Should we need this? No. But do we need it? Yes. Read it here.
BOULDER ANTI-TRUMPER RUNNING FOR AG We all know that AG stands for Aspiring Governor so I fully expect Boulder County DA Michael Dougherty to be moving in that direction. Current Attorney General Phil Weiser is term limited so the race is open, and Dougherty wasted no time in letting Democrats know he would continue to use the office to try and stop federal law in Colorado. Read more here, and you should, because in this state it is very likely he will be the next Attorney General.
WANT TO HELP DOGE? The best way to reach out is via X it seems. This article says that DOGE has been responsive to things posted by people on X when it comes to their mission of remaking the government. Give it a shot if you've got waste, fraud and abuse to uncover.
DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK Jake Tapper of CNN has a new book coming out. Read the title and subtitle:
Original Sin: President Biden's Decline, Its Cover-Up, and His Disastrous Choice to Run Again
Yep, he's written a book about how the media, including him, covered up for Joe Biden. From Amazon.com's description of the book:
From two of America’s most respected journalists, an unflinching and explosive reckoning with one of the most fateful decisions in American political history: Joe Biden’s run for reelection despite evidence of his serious decline—amid desperate efforts to hide the extent of that deterioration
In Greek tragedy, the protagonist’s effort to avoid his fate is what seals his fate. In 2024, American politics became a Greek tragedy.
Joe Biden launched his successful 2020 bid for the White House with the stated goal of saving the nation from a second Trump presidential term. He, his family, and his senior aides were so convinced that only he could beat Trump again, they lied to themselves, allies, and the public about his condition and limitations. At his debate with Trump on June 27, 2024, the consequences of that deception were exposed to the world. It was shocking and upsetting.
Now the full, unsettling truth is being told for the first time. Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson take us behind closed doors and into private conversations between the heaviest of hitters, revealing how big the problem was and how many people knew about it. From White House staffers at the highest to lowest levels, to leaders of Congress and the Cabinet, from governors to donors and Hollywood players, the truth is finally being told. What you will learn makes President Biden’s decision to run for reelection seem shockingly narcissistic, self-delusional, and reckless—a desperate bet that went bust—and part of a larger act of extended public deception that has few precedents. The story the authors tell raises fundamental issues of accountability and responsibility that will continue for decades.
The irony is biting: In the name of defeating what they called an existential threat to democracy, Biden and his inner circle ensured it, tossing aside his implicit promise to serve for only one term, denying the existence of health issues the nation had been watching for years, dooming the Democrats to defeat. The decision to run again, the Original Sin of this president, led to a campaign of denial and gaslighting, leading directly to Donald Trump's return to power and all that has happened as a consequence. Rarely does hubris meet nemesis more explosively. Wherever you stand on the political spectrum, Original Sin is essential reading.
Just as a reminder, this is Jake Tapper before the election:
JEFF BEZOS YANKS THE WAPO EDITORIAL PAGE THE RIGHT That is the only way to read this article where Bezos sent the edict down that editorials should focus on “defense of two pillars: personal liberties and free markets.” The opinion editor David Shipley found this so objectionable he quit. So far Bezos is only meddling in the opinion pages but we'll see if he demands more balanced journalism in the news at some point. If he does I may re subscribe, something I stopped doing many years ago. The realignments happening right now because of the Trump administration are remarkable and I'm sort of enjoying watching the reeling from people who have been able to spew their anti-conservative nonsense unfettered for years.
ASHLEY ST. CLAIR IS WHAT'S WRONG WITH WOMEN I'm not afraid to say that Elon Musk's latest Baby Momma is a complete gold digger who proves every negative stereotype about women getting knocked up by powerful men for their own personal gain. She bragged about being able to influence him after she texted a friend a few years ago about getting his "rocket baby" even before she met him. Good luck to her and I feel terrible for her kid, who doesn't seem to have any relationship with the billionaire, but then again, St. Claire seems to have fallen by the wayside too. I'm sure she didn't brag about that to her friends. Oh, and I feel no sympathy for Musk, he seems to want to have as many children as possible in the style of Genghis Khan.
For reference, Genghis Khan, who raped thousands of women, has about 16 MILLION descendants now. Not saying Musk raped anyone, because he clearly has women like Ashley who will sleep with him without force, but he's trying to give Khan a fun for his money. This is precisely why Donald Trump said he could grab women by the you-know-what. Because rich men can because of women like this.
A DEAL ON MINERAL RIGHTS HAS BEEN STRUCK And according to news reports President Zelensky of Ukraine will be in DC Friday to sign the deal which would create a joint fund that would benefit from rare earth mineral development. Read more here, but this is the first step towards a peace deal. I am wondering what Russia thinks about all this.
DID JAMES COMEY TRY TO HONEYTRAP THE TRUMP CAMPAIGN? That's what been alleged by a whistleblower from the agency and it's now being investigated by FBI leadership. Read the story here but this tracks with what we know about James Comey.
ADULTS WITH DISABILITIES DESERVE THE DIGNITY OF WORK This story is so frustrating because activist groups who represent some disabled people are about to destroy one way people with significant disabilities can participate in the workforce Read it here, and this is why I donate and shop at ARC Thrift Stores, as they hire people who fit into this category. Check this part out:
Historically, there has been bipartisan agreement about the value of expanding employment options for those with disabilities. But over the past few years, states like mine have begun to phase out 14(c) programs in the name of advancing the dignity and rights of disabled people. Maine eliminated them in 2020, and today, two-thirds of former 14(c) participants there are now unemployed. In Washington State, which eliminated their program in April 2021, more than 80 percent of people with severe cognitive impairments remain unemployed. When Oklahoma reduced the numbers of cognitively disabled adults in 14(c) programs, there was no corresponding increase in integrated employment. And late last month, Governor J.B. Pritzker made Illinois the 16th state to officially enact a 14(c) phaseout by signing the Dignity in Pay Act.
THE QUALITY PARODY SONGS ARE COMING FAST AND FURIOUS This is great, and I'm sure Madonna will be apoplectic.
THE USEFUL IDIOTS OF SOCIALISM INFLUENCERS John Stossel breaks it down.
IS CHRISTIANITY POISED FOR A COMEBACK? Good news on the religion front, after years of decline the number of self declared Christians is holding steady. I think if churches started holding events focused on just bringing people together to fight loneliness and make new friends they could make inroads. Just a thought.
DUDE.
