COLORADO GOP "LEADERSHIP" DOES MORE DUMB STUFF Hooboy, this needs to end THIS YEAR by bouncing these people out of office. First off, the so-called "leadership" is wasting more time and money on ANOTHER lawsuit that won't get a single Republican elected to office. Are they suing the Democrats? Of course not, they are suing OTHER REPUBLICANS. Of course. You can read about it here, but how they plan to prove "damages" is interesting. I'd be willing to testify on behalf of the defendants that the "leadership" is the reason I and others left the party. If you really want to see a window into the world of GOP politics look at this claptrap by one of the supporter of the current cabal. I grabbed this screengrab from a Colorado Republican group and it is entirely indicative of the level of discourse there among supporters of Dave Williams:
Does this seem like a group you want to be part of? If so, why? What is to be gained by this? But this is what you get from a group of people who I can only imagine are so devoid of joy or happiness in their own lives that they live to foment hate and division. Good luck to them all and I hope the judge laughs this suit out of existence.
SPEAKING OF STUPID LAWSUITS Denver Public Schools has entered the chat by filing a lawsuit designed to stop ICE from picking up dangerous illegal immigrants in schools, where no ICE activity is happening anyway. Surely the money they used for this fruitless lawsuit could be used to teach kids how to read better. Read an editorial about it here.
THE LATEST ON THE KING SOOPERS STRIKE I keep putting these stories on the blog but I am not feeling a whole lot of concern for this strike. Am I wrong? Are you guys avoiding the store in solidarity with workers or are you just shopping like normal? I'm in category B but if you care, you can read what the issues are here, because I've not really seen much on that. Lots of accusations with very little to back them up it seems to me.
YOU REALLY SHOULD WATCH THE JD VANCE SPEECH Because if you only read what the left wing media writes about it you would think JD took a big ol dump right on the stage when nothing could be further from the truth. Watch it for yourself.
Upbeat, but firm in calling out our European neighbors for turning their backs on free speech. For refusing to engage with the 2nd most popular party in Germany. For just being Europe. Watch that, and then read this. Does that remotely sound like the speech you just watched? CNN wrote about it here in the same way. Now consider the fact that people on the left may only be getting their news from CNN and their ilk. Of course they think the sky is falling. It's what they are being told and instead of seeking out the actual speech, it confirms what they think about Trump so they don't bother. Niall Ferguson has a much different take in The Free Press:
We also learned on Saturday that the British authorities have charged 292 people with spreading illegal “fake news” or sending “threatening communications” since the Online Safety Act came into force in 2023. A total of 67 have been convicted.
I suspect Americans, who live in a country with a First Amendment, will be astonished to learn the details: After three little girls were stabbed to death by a jihadist in Southport last July, there were multiple cases brought against people for social media postings that broke the Online Safety Act. The government deliberately suppressed the fact that the killer, Axel Rudakubana, had been referred to the anti-extremism program “Prevent” three times and was in possession of an al-Qaeda training manual at the time of the murders. Yet people were jailed for claiming online that he was a Muslim immigrant. One man was jailed for three months for a livestreamed video on TikTok that falsely claimed he was “running for his life” from rioters in Derby. (More examples here.)
In calling this out, Vance was saying more than just that Britain and Europe have forgotten, if they ever really understood, the importance of free expression. He was also making an argument about political liberty. “Of all the pressing challenges that the nations represented here face,” he declared, “I believe there is nothing more urgent than mass migration. . . . No voter on this continent went to the ballot box to open the floodgates to millions of unvetted immigrants.”
He's right. But as long as our dual media world exists, half the country won't know that.
I CAN CUT FOOD WASTE IN SCHOOLS When "free lunch for everyone" became a thing there were restrictions put on what qualified for a "free lunch". Every kid has to take a main course, a fruit and a vegetable for it to be "free". Most of those kids throw the fruit and veggie away. Just let them get what they want instead of trying to find charities to give it to when the kids "return" it as they are trying to do here.

DEMOCRATS ATTACK FREE SPEECH IN COLORADO Anytime a politician wants to make anything verboten to say it shocks me that they are so wildly ignorant of the First Amendment. There is no right not be offended, no right to not have your feelings hurt, and no right to force someone to call you something you want to be called. But don't let that stop Democrats who are trying to pass a clearly unconstitutional bill that will make "deadnaming" someone who has decided to change gender harassment. It also forces schools to make policies gender neutral as well as not allowing gender affirmation to be used in a custody battle. It goes WELL beyond deadnaming. I'm sure it will pass.
ROSEN ON BIRTHRIGHT CITIZENSHIP Mike Rosen writes here about the necessary clarification of the birthright citizenship situation in the United States. It's a tremendous lure for people to break into the country to give birth to a citizen and it's prevalent enough to have the name "anchor baby". Rosen offers background that I think is important, including the Originalist writings about citizenship via the 14th Amendment, which clearly did not include illegal immigrants. Read it here. I agree with Rosen more than I agree with scholar John Yoo, who dismissed this case out of hand prematurely in my view.
TWO COLORADO MEN GIVE FLORIDA MAN A RUN FOR HIS MONEY This story needs to be a movie because I have to see this. Two Colorado men got caught trying to launch tobacco and methamphetamine into a PRISON in Louisiana using an air cannon. I've got no words but those.
YOUR COLORADO TAX RETURN WON'T BE COMING ANYTIME SOON As the Department of Revenue hasn't even begun processing state tax returns. How is this possible? That department has ONE JOB. ONE. And don't ask them, they don't seem to be interested in giving any updates.

A SHOCKING INFLATION STAT The Common Sense Institute broke down some inflation numbers and used a graphic that jolted me. They added up how much MORE the average family spent since 2020 because of inflation and the number is HUGE. Like almost $41,000 huge. That is a LOT of money. The good news in this story is that Colorado's inflation has cooled faster than the nation because our housing costs, which exploded in years prior, seems to have topped out for a minute. FORD'S CEO SAYS THE QUIET PART LOUD ABOUT EV TRUCKS And that is they have problems that are not "resolvable". In an earnings call in the 4th quarter CEO Jim Farley had this to say:
“For larger retail, electric utilities, the economics are unresolvable,” Farley stated. “These customers have very demanding use cases for an electric vehicle. They tow, they go off-road, they take long road trips. These vehicles have worse aerodynamics, and they're very heavy, which means very large and expensive batteries.”
He went on to say that Ford would focus on smaller to medium sized vehicles for its EV lines. Are any of you shocked by anything he said? We could have told him that long ago.
