2/10/25 Blog: It's Been A Big Week In Women's Sports!

THE BATTLE OF BEST FEMALE SPORTS AD IS OVER And though Nike brought this to the table during the Super Bowl:

So SEXISM is the issue these days? Not quite, Nike. This spot is SO MUCH BETTER.

Jennifer Sey joins me at 1pm today to talk about her whirlwind week of standing behind the President while he signed an Executive Order protecting women's sports. Look at her face in this picture.

She is one of the fighters who knew from the outset that men didn't belong in women's sports. Neither do most Americans, by the way, the polling shows that we all know it's patently unfair. Read that here.

THAT SUPER BOWL WASN'T WHAT I EXPECTED As the Eagles pretty much hammered the Chiefs, who looked like they had never played football before. I think the one thing most people agreed on was the halftime show was not good. I'm sure Kendrick Lamar is very talented but his performance was unintelligible and the production was boring. Can we all just admit we need pop stars or country stars who put on a spectacle for the Super Bowl? Other people loved it apparently. The looting and fires in Philly were epic last night. Of course they were.

THE LATEST "A to Z" BREAKS DOWN THE SUPER BOWL!

I THOUGHT THE COMMERCIALS SUCKED TOO With a few exceptions. Budweiser came roaring back with the kind of spots that made people drink Budweiser. See how everyone stacked up, but my faves were the Big Men of the Cul De Sac, The Weather Tec ad with the old ladies and the Jeep commercial with Harrison Ford.

THE RACISM OF RTD Lest you think the mass transit service is doing okay, Jon Caldara points out the racism it's steeped in here.

THE BAD GUN BILL IN COLORADO IS ON THE ROCKS As even Democrats who co sponsored the bill are jumping ship after being told what's in it. It was NOT brought up on the floor of the Senate and was pushed behind closed doors as Democrats try to figure out a way to meet Governor Jared Polis's concerns about the broad nature of the clearly unconstitutional measure. If this dies, I will give the Governor some credit for killing it.

SOME COLORADO CAMPUSES SAY THEY WILL CONTINUE TO EMBRACE DEI I found this paragraph of this article very interesting:

“What I think the opponents of DEI do is start first by turning the intention of DEI efforts on their head,” said Colorado Community College System Chancellor Joe Garcia. “They say it is about trying to advance certain groups over others at the expense of merit and saying, ‘We care more about diversity than merit.’ What we care about is ensuring that people from diverse backgrounds have the opportunity to demonstrate their merit and advance based on it. And of course in this country, historically, that’s not always been the case.”

AXTUALLY, no, we are simply taking what is has BECOME at face value. No one is against equal opportunity (well maybe some awful people) but what DEI has become is about equal OUTCOMES. It's about unqualified students in medical school, while high performing Asian and White students being kept out of institutions of higher learning to make room for someone of a different color. Americans want a meritocracy. It's how we're built. And if institutions of higher learning want to make an impact with students of all races why not ask Asian families how their kids do so well in school and amplify that? Oh, that's because Asian parents MAKE THEIR CHILDREN PERFORM AT A HIGH LEVEL. It's not genetic, it's hard work.

WHEN CRAPPY ROADS DAMAGE YOUR CAR, GOOD LUCK Getting any kind of compensation from the State. This article from CPR shows how the state has made it damn near impossible to just file a claim, but it doesn't matter if you do, they will deny it anyway. What a racket.

THE GOP WANTS TO LET PROBATION OFFICERS WORK WITH ICE Do Democrats really believe that criminal illegal aliens should be deported? Then they will surely pass a new bill that just allows probationary officers (who are working with people who have been convicted of a crime) to work with federal ICE agents. The bill has been filed but it's been sent to committee for a quick death.

PARENTS WANT SCHOOLS TO TEACH THE BASICS And not claptrap gender bending nonsense. That's why parents with kids moved right in the last election cycle according to this article. Read this:

According to a poll of parents commissioned by Parents Defending Education (where I work), a whopping 90 percent of parents agree that focusing on core subject areas—such as math, reading, writing, science, and social studies—would improve the quality of public education. In other words, as cliche as it may sound, parents want schools to get back to the basics. Parents are not on board with gender policies that allow students (and staff) to self-identify as the opposite sex, yet these policies are now the norm in most schools. 77 percent of parents, regardless of party affiliation, oppose allowing males, who identify as females, to use female bathrooms and locker rooms and vice versa. Notably, the party breakdown of that number is 92 percent of Republican parents, 75 percent of Independent parents, and 58 percent of Democratic parents.

There is more and you should read it here.

DEFENDING USAID SPENDING IS SUICIDE FOR DEMS This column makes the same case I was making last week, that by jumping in to defend a bunch of indefensible (to most Americans anyway) spending by USAID they are putting themselves at odd with the voters. This article says it's suicide, but only if they don't pay attention to the massive collective shrug outside of DC about the agency. Read this one part:

As David Axelrod remarked to Politico, regarding the USAID battle, “Democrats have become—in the minds of a lot of voters—an elite party, and to a lot of folks who are trying to scuffle out there and get along, this will seem like an elite passion.”

Exactly. There is no time for an elite passion when eggs cost six bucks a dozen.

CBS NEWS SAYS AMERICANS LIKE WHAT TRUMP IS DOING For the most part, anyway. Their new poll shows broad support for what the President is doing so far. We'll break down the numbers here.

THE BEST COMMERCIALS OF THE SUPER BOWL If you missed the commercials, these are the best.

SWITZERLAND SAYS NO THANK YOU TO ENVIRO WACKOS The greenies wanted to center ecology and the environment in everything government does. Read this:

A summary of the referendum said that natural resources such as water, soil and air were often used in Switzerland and abroad to such an extent "that they are unable to recover".

"The Environmental Responsibility Initiative requires that economic activities do not consume more resources and release more pollutants than is permitted for the preservation of natural resources," it said, setting a 10-year deadline.

And the Swiss said NO and with such resounding force that I doubt this will make a return appearance anytime soon.

WHO WILL START AN EARLY BIRD CLUB IN DENVER? OMG you guys I LOVE this so much! I spent my youth dancing in clubs and I miss it, but when I think about the fact that we used to start getting READY to go out at 10pm I shudder in horror. These days if I make it to 10pm I give myself a high five. Now a group of women in Chicago started an early bird club, where the dancing starts at 6pm and the whole thing wraps up by 10pm! Be still my heart! Of course these women made this space for women and trans folks but I would love to anyone to come dance with me, but let's do it early, k?

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU DON'T MAKE THE MONEY This is a story about heirs of super rich people who say they don't want the money and are giving it away. This is 100% their prerogative, of course, but it goes to show you how easy it is to ignore the hard work that went into MAKING that fortune when it isn't your hard work. This is why second generation wealthy people are far more likely to be liberal than not. It's easy to give away money you didn't earn.

HOMELESS PEOPLE AREN'T HAPPY WITH THE WAY THINGS ARE GOING Even as the Mayor is trying to take a victory lap and promises to do more of the same. This story spoke with homeless people, some of whom have cycled in and out of the homeless hotels. It's not pretty. There are no easy answers here but I found this part especially telling:

“I don't agree with the fact that they push housing before jobs, like so you put me in house and I don't have a job,” he said.

That comment was from a homeless, but employed, man.

THE AURORA CITY COUNCIL IS TRYING TO WORK WITH PROTESTERS Who are demanding something the City Council can't deliver, and that's the prosecution of officers who have been cleared for shooting Kilyn Lewis. The protesters have been so disruptive that the Council is thinking of creating a special time before the actual meeting for public comment, just so they can get some work done. My guess is the protesters will keep disrupting them no matter what the council does. I'd just start issuing warnings followed by arrests. It's gone on long enough.

KING SOOPERS IS SUING THE UNION And you can read the details here. I shopped there this past weekend and was politely asked by one woman if I'd like a card with information on it. I said no, also politely. Another gentleman decided to step up to try to get me to take one and I politely said no again, ONLY LOUDER.

A NICE FEATURE ON DANIELLE JURINSKY If you want to know more about the woman who brought attention the gang problems in Aurora.

TAKE A NICE LONG WALK If you want the full benefit of the easiest form of exercise proven to improve health outcomes. A short, brisk walk is good, but a longer walk is better.

THAT WAS SOME ANTHEM You have to click the link to see the video because the NFL, but this was not my favorite anthem by a long shot. I didn't HATE it and it was definitely a New Orleans sort of jam but I am a traditionalist with the anthem.

tTHIS WAS MORE MY JAM Also with a New Orleans flair, but this song gets a bit more latitude because it's not the official anthem.

SHOULD WE BE SENDING MEN FLOWERS? This column says yes and I'm not sure. I need some input from you dudes.

HOW DOES YOUR CREDIT SCORE RANK? The average credit score in the United States is 715. Almost 3/4 of Americans had a credit score considered "Good" which is the key to taking on more debt. Seriously, buy a Dave Ramsey book instead.

CARS WITH THE CHEAPEST INSURANCE RATES As everyone is tightening their belts, here is a list of the cars with the cheapest auto insurance rates. Not sure why, but here we go.
