1/16/24 Blog: Dems Favor Unions Over Votes, Plus A New DA Opens Up for Biz

GEORGE BRAUCHLER IS BACK TO PROSECUTING BAD GUYS And now he's doing it in the newly created 23rd Judicial District. He joins me at 1 to talk about what we can expect from the new office.

NO, COLORADANS DON'T WANT TO CHANGE LABOR LAW In Colorado we've been living under labor laws that were settled decades ago after violent labor strikes. One of those laws requires two votes for unionization. The first requires a simple majority to form a union, but the second requires a supermajority in order for unions to take dues from EVERYONE, even if they don't want to belong to the union. Now the Democrats are trying to do away with that second vote, and they are diametrically opposed to what most Coloradans think. I've got Rachel Beck, Executive Director of the Colorado Competitive Council joining me to talk about the results of their survey, but here are the high points:

70% of voters oppose the removal of the second vote, including 46% who strongly oppose the changes. Only 25% support removing the second vote. 67% of voters oppose mandatory deductions of labor union dues from workers’ paychecks, regardless of their union membership status. Only 27% support mandatory dues deductions. Opposition to SB25-005 transcends political boundaries: 87% of Republicans, 72% of Independents, and 50% of Democrats oppose the removal of the second vote.

So why are Dems doing this? I'll let you guess but it probably starts with the fact that most unions donate exclusively to Democrats.

TAY TAY PLAYS THE VICTIM AGAIN I have to give it to former School Board member TayTay Anderson, he knows how to play the victim. His latest involves a verbal altercation with Mayor Mike Coffman in Aurora. TayTay continues to try to grift off the death of Kilyn Lewis, who was shot to death by police who were trying to arrest him for attempted murder. The Mayor, who seems to have had enough of the racist grifter yelled that he was responsible for the death of Austin Lyle, the East High Student who killed himself after shooting two administrators tasked with patting him down after TayTay got SROs removed from Denver Schools. Now TayTay is running around saying the Mayor "attacked" him, which is absurd but how to grift unless you lie and exaggerate and make stuff up? This guy is the absolute worst and that anyone gives him an iota of credence is laughable. Why don't you fake more injuries and take selfies in the hospital, Tay? Why don't you go hit on some more high school girls, Tay?

WHERE DO YOU WANT A NEW BRONCO STADIUM? The Broncos are not ruling anything out when it comes to what they are doing next. From new uniforms to a new stadium, it's all on the table. So IF they want to move the stadium, and I think it's a pretty safe bet that they will move it, where should it go? We shall discuss.

COLORADO SPRINGS COUNCIL THINKS THEIR VOTERS ARE STUPID And I get it, they don't want recreational marijuana sales in the Springs. However, the VOTERS decided they do by 54% on last November's ballot, but now the council is saying the voters were too dumb to understand what they voted for. Perhaps it is the Council who is too stupid to understand that the voters want recreational weed? Just a thought. Now the council is talking about referring the measure to the ballot AGAIN, but in the notoriously low participation municipal elections in April, where it will be easier to mobilize the limited number of voters against it. I know that the Council is made up of like minded (to me) people but when the people speak, and they SPOKE about this, the "representatives" sitting on the Council should pay attention. It's no different than the Democrats ignoring voter will and doing whatever they want. To the Council's credit, they did reduce the buffer zone from the 1 mile zone they passed last September to the 1,000 feet approved by the ballot measure so there's that.

tTHE 16TH STREET MALL STABBER BENEFITED FROM SOFT ON CRIME POLICIES Read this article to see exactly how much stuff a mentally ill homeless dude was allowed to get away with before he allegedly murdered two people last weekend. He has a long history of lenient sentencing followed by him violating the terms of that sentencing over and over again. Why would anyone comply? This is what DA Beth McCann's office did, and the new DA seems to be more of the same.

A GRIEVING WIFE DEFENDS HER HUSBAND This is so heartbreaking to me. The man who killed himself and then blew up a Cybertruck in Las Vegas has spoken out about the misinformation being spread about her family. She paints a picture of a man who held it all together until he didn't. You can read it here.

MIKE ROSEN IS TIRED OF THE DEBT CEILING CIRCUS and he is 100% right about everything in this column. It means nothing and should just be eliminated.

HOW IS LYING ABOUT COMP TIME NOT A CRIME? I've been following this story about the Denver Fire Chief since CBS 4 broke the story last year. It seems the Fire Chief gave himself a lot of comp time for doing things that are within the normal scope of his job and then cashed that unused comp time in for cash. Now an Assistant Chief has called for a No Confidence vote on his leadership. Just yesterday, I saw this story about the now former head of the Duval County (FL) Teachers Union, who has been indicted for lying about comp time and then swapping it for cash. Can you tell me how these two things are different? Other than the fact that they two women in Florida seemed to KNOW they were doing something illegal and conspired together, the actions are EXACTLY the same. Aren't they?

THE COLORADO GOP HAS A BUNCH OF NEW YOUNG MEMBERS And this is a great interview with one of them.

HEY LOOK, PEOPLE WERE ARRESTED FOR SHOPLIFTING And they did it at Park Meadows, which is in Douglas County, where they actually arrest people for stuff.

THE FDA IS ALREADY MAKING CHANGES AS the possibility of RFJ, Jr taking over hanging on the horizon with promises to make our food healthy again, the FDA is already making moves. First off, they are banning dye Red 3 from food manufacture because it can cause cancer in rats. It has also been linked to behavioral issues in kids. Food makers have two years to comply, which seems like an awfully long time to me. They are also moving to lower the amount of nicotine in smoked tobacco products, which is something multiple administrations have done, including the Trump admin. This is supposed to reduce the addictiveness of smoked products to inspire people to move to vaping or other less harmful methods of consuming nicotine. Amazing what one nomination can get done.

SPEAKING OF TRUMP NOMINEES They are performing VERY well in these confirmation hearings. Pam Bondi crushed it yesterday, so did Marco Rubio. Even MSNBC had to admit Bondi handled the idiotic questions from Democrats with aplomb. Even Pete Hegseth, one of the more controversial pics, came through unscathed. Things are looking good for Trump nominees but the real test with RFK Jr. We'll see what happens there.

IT'S PIPE FREEZING WEATHER And if you're new to the area you can get some tips here to keep them from freezing.

NO, CLIMATE CHANGE DIDN'T CAUSE THE CALI FIRES But don't take my word for it, take the word of a guy whose worked in the field for 30 years at Cal Tech. Read the interview here, it's very illuminating.

WHY DON'T PALESTINIANS ALREADY HAVE THEIR OWN STATE? It's not for lack of trying... on Israel's part. Read this piece by Alan Dershowitz. Here is the top line:

Israel agreed to Palestinian statehood in 1937-1938, 1947-1948, 1967, 2000-2001, and 2007. In each case, it was the Palestinian leadership that refused to agree to the two-state solution....

He outlines exactly what happened in the article. I'm sure anti-Semites will still find a way to blame Israel.

ABOUT BIDEN TAKING CREDIT FOR THE ISRAEL-HAMAS DEAL The Times of Israel is telling a much different story. Read this:

A “tense” weekend meeting between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and incoming Mideast envoy Steve Witkoff led to a breakthrough in the hostage negotiations, with the top aide to US President-elect Donald Trump doing more to sway the premier in a single sit-down than outgoing President Joe Biden did all year, two Arab officials told The Times of Israel on Tuesday.

I still think the deal sucks for Israel.

STACEY ABRAMS CHEATED This is paywalled but it's too good not to share. Stacey Abrams, the woman who has lost two races in Georgia while claiming fraud in both of those losses, cheated. How? She created a non-profit which she turned over now Senator Ralph Warnock so she could run for office. Warnock then directed the non-profits, neither of which was allowed by IRS rules to engage in political campaigning, to campaign for Abrams. This isn't speculation, this is now fact, as that non-profit and another used by Abrams to cheat are now facing $300,000 fines for doing so. Of course she accused others of cheating, that's what cheaters do. You can read the NY Times story on it here, but it's also paywalled. From the article:

At a meeting of the state’s ethics commission, the nonprofit New Georgia Project conceded that it had paid for fliers and door-to-door canvassers telling voters to support Ms. Abrams and other Democrats.
Under federal law, tax-exempt charities like this one are forbidden to campaign for candidates, but this case was about a violation of state law.
The nonprofit conceded that, because of its campaign work for Ms. Abrams, it should have registered with the state as a political committee, but it did not. A related nonprofit, the New Georgia Project Action Fund, admitted the same.

These non-profits should have their tax exempt status pulled for this. I'm sure conservative groups who did the same would.

BMI MAY BE ON THE WAY OUT As doctor's try to find a better way to decide if someone is clinically obese. Thankfully, they are looking at things like how much fat you have, which seems reasonable to me. Body Mass Index has always been a flawed, one size fits all approach that was never very good.

THE TWERK SEEN ROUND THE WORLD I saw this video of a flight attendant twerking in a plane aisle in uniform and my first thought was, "she's gonna get fired for this" and I was right. There is no way any airline lets employees do anything sexually oriented (and twerking falls into that category in this case) and then post if on social media. She'd only been with Alaska Airlines for six months and they canned her for violating their social media policy. She's not a victim of anything here but her own stupidity.
