1/8/25 Blog: Weather Wednesday and Kyle Clark Attacks A New Republican!

FOX 31'S DAVE FRASER HAS THE LATEST ON THE POLAR VORTEX And boy did I feel it today. He joins me at 12:30 to talk about our next round of snow now that winter has slammed into us.

KYLE CLARK PLAYS CUTE WITH IMMIGRATION LAW AND GABE EVANS I guess I should be happy that Kyle Clark is going after a male Republican this time. Clark decided to try to corner Gave Evans on how he would vote on a bill that hasn't been filed by anyone yet that would strip so-called "sanctuary cities" of their federal funding. When Evans didn't answer the question to Clark's satisfaction Clark used that to bludgeon the brand new Congressman on his show. Fine, he has the right to ask whatever he wants. My issue is the way he then tried to downplay what Colorado actually DOES in practice when it comes to immigration law. Watch this for the backstory.

That is a gross misrepresentation of what is actually happening with law enforcement in this state. Former ICE Agent John Fabbricatore responded with this:

Colorado's long history of refusing to help Immigration and Customs started when Democrats took over the state. From Boltsmag.com:

Advocates and lawyers trying to shield that population from incarceration and deportation have recently charted a series of victories: since 2019, when Democrats took control of state government, Colorado has, among other changes, banned local law enforcement from arresting or jailing someone on the basis of a civil immigration detainer; banned ICE from arresting people on courthouse grounds; allowed non-citizens to obtain driver’s licenses; and opened state housing benefits to all residents, regardless of immigration status.

That kind of seems like they won't work with the feds. He also references how the men responsible for a myriad of crimes at Aurora apartment complexes are now in federal custody, something the ACLU now says is illegal here. From our friends at Fox 31:

“The ACLU of Colorado sent a letter following the raid in December to all Colorado sheriffs and county attorneys reiterating that Colorado law restricts state and local law enforcement’s involvement in the enforcement of federal civil immigration law, recognizing that such entanglement threatens community trust and safety, and specifically forbids state and local law enforcement officers from arresting or detaining individuals for civil immigration purposes, including at the request of ICE,” Macdonald told FOX31.

In his zeal to force Rep. Evans to answer a gotcha question about legislation that hasn't even been created yet Clark got a lot very, very wrong. I'm sure he will issue a mea culpa any day.

COLORADO HAS ANOTHER UNELECTED SENATOR As the nonsense of the vacancy committees continues. Matthew Ball, currently the director of policy for the City of Denver, is our latest unelected member of the Legislature. I'm not mad at him, just the rotten system that has 107 people choosing the "representative" for the district. There is noise under the Gold Dome about fixing this issue but I don't expect meaningful action anytime soon.

IT'S TIME TO GET BACK TO WORK This is a great column by Sean Duffy about men who have simply dropped out of the workforce. There are valid reasons for a man or woman not to work, but we aren't talking about those here. He's talking about young adults whose failure to launch is becoming a real problem as we need them in the overall economy. It's one thing to let your adult working kid to land back at home for a respite, maybe to save money to buy a place or until they can afford deposits, but allowing your adult kids to live at home without a job is the absolute WORST thing you can do to them. I'm in the "work creates meaning" camp when it comes to employment, even if you hate your job. Humans need something to do. Period.

DON'T ROCK THE DYSFUNCTIONAL SCHOOL BOARD BOAT Or the inmates running that asylum will come after you. Jimmy Sengenberger has a column about the latest nonsense from the Denver Public School board, where one member is being accused of some nebulous violations of something just because he asks hard questions.

IT'S A GREAT TIME TO OWN A GAS STATION IN DENVER Because the City is about to limit the ability of competition to arrive. They are changing the zoning of where a new gas station can go to make it even harder to open a new gas station. Of course they are, because they hate anyone who drives. I'll take my tax money elsewhere. You know how I know it's only about getting us out of our cars and into mass transit no one wants? Because of this:

Limitations would not apply to gas stations that aren't open to the public, such as fuel services for government fleets, transit vehicles, or rental car agencies.

So GOVERNMENT gets gas stations wherever they want, we just don't. Mmkay.

IT'S AMAZING WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU MAKE CRIME ILLEGAL After living through the Democrat Induced Car Theft Wave of the Early 20s we're now starting to see car theft drop after politicians were forced to undo their idiotic mistake of lessening penalties for car theft. Remember when newly announced gubernatorial candidate Phil Weiser said this?

t

The results were as expected, with car thefts skyrocketing in Colorado because why wouldn't you steal a car when you can steal three without going to jail? That being said, after raising the penalties for car theft a crazy thing happened; they went down. We're down 41% since the high of 2022 but cars are still being stolen. Find out if your car's make and model were on the top Ten list. If you have a KiA or a Hyundai and have not gotten the security update done on your car you need to.

WE'VE GOT SOME NEW NON STOPS OUT OF DIA And you can find out if your favorite city is on this list.

OF COURSE VAIL HAS A $25 HOT CHOCOLATE Of course they do. It's at the Four Seasons and it is rather fancy but I'd put my hot chocolate up against theirs. Find out more about the pricey beverage here, but you're paying for presentation more than anything. I heard Aspen is working on a $100 hot chocolate now.

LITTLETON RESIDENTS SHOW THE POWER OF SHOWING UP Because they PACKED the City Council meeting where a zoning change was about to be shoved down their throats. The change would have allowed multi family homes to be built in any neighborhood in the city. We're not talking apartment complexes, we're talking duplexes, triplexes or quads. The residents of Littleton showed up in force and the City Council tabled the measure indefinitely. Though I sympathize with the residents here, what do we do about building more affordable housing? I've lived in a super swanky duplex before in a neighborhood of single family homes and I don't feel like that was disruptive.

A PROGRAM TO ALLOW ILLEGALS TO SKIP THE IMMIGRATION LINE REFUNDS MONEY Because it was found to be unconstitutional. This one infuriates me because of what my dear friend and her Irish husband had to go through legally to get him back here when they've been married 20 years. Read more here.

WHY SHOULDN'T A NINE YEAR OLD GET A TATTOO? This story about a family that took their nine year old daughter to Arizona so she could get a Trump tattoo on her neck (!) has some outraged. The tattoo artist, who obviously denied her true self, talked her out of the neck tattoo and into an American flag on her arm, but the internet is still outraged. What's the big deal? She KNOWS what she wants and she should get it, amiright? It's not like tattoos can't be removed with painful laser treatments. Of course this entire entry is sarcasm. These parents suck but I guess she should be glad she didn't decide she was a boy.

CHICK-FIL-A ROBOTS SAY IT'S THEIR PLEASURE TO SQUEEZE LEMONS Somehow I don't think anyone is going to be upset to find that Chick-Fil-A has brought in robots to do a hated job: squeezing lemons for its lemonade. With the robots squeezing and packaging the fresh juice to send to stores they free up 10,000 hours PER DAY in labor alone. That's a whole lot of lemons.

COULD A DEFAMATION CASE PUT CNN UNDER? It's a real possibility as the network is already struggling and a Jake Tapper segment on helping people escape Afghanistan was at best shoddy journalism and at worst defamation. It named a man it accused of being part of a "black market" of people who charge Afghanis exorbitant fees to escape the country. Except that man wasn't doing that and now he's suing and the trial just started in Florida. Read more here.
