12/31/24 Blog: It's An End of the Year Wrap Up With My Family and Friends

IT'S ALMOST HAPPY NEW YEAR TIME! As we say goodbye to 2024 and hello to 2025 I've got Chuck and The Q with me on the show (for no reason other than I can) to review 2024 and then jump into 2025. We'll be joined by at least one special guest, maybe two, so it's gonna be an interesting show for sure. It's an Ask Us Anything kind of day!

STEVE MOORE ON TEN THINGS TO MAGA THE ECONOMY IN 2025 Read his column here.

I WANT YOUR BEST/WORST NEW YEAR'S EVE STORIES! I feel like there is a LOT of pressure to have an AMAZING time on New Year's Eve but if I'm honest most of them haven't lived up to the hype. I DID get engaged on New Year's Eve so there was that one, but most have fallen flat. Some have been a disaster. I want to hear your good and bad stories.

THE BIGGEST STORY OF 2024 HAS TO BE TRUMP'S COMEBACK At least in my opinion and there are a lot of options of what were the biggest stories of the year. CBS Sunday Morning did a month by month by month which is a great place to start.

The Wall Street Journal did a nice retrospective of news stories here, and if you want to know what France thought was important you can see those headlines here. Boy there has been a lot. But there was good news. Watch Steve Hartman's good news stories here if you've lost faith in humanity, it will be restored if you just spend about an hour and watch all these. I will warn you, I had to turn it off because I started to ugly cry.

Here are some more good news stories here, and ABC News talks about the most talked about story here. Note how they differ from the top stories here from CNN's top digital stories of the year in term of their web traffic. We focus way too much on fluff that doesn't really matter, don't we? NBC News has the biggest political stories of the year, which of course includes Trump's comeback.

WHAT ABOUT THE COLORADO NEWS IN 2024? Lots to talk about here, and the Denver Gazette has it's top stories of the year here. If you don't subscribe to the Denver Gazette yet please don't complain about news coverage here, they are killing it. Westword has its own Most Denver stories here. Here are some "unexpected" stories from Colorado from our friends at Fox 31.

BIGGEST STORY OF THE YEAR: WHAT JOURNALISTS AREN'T CURIOUS ABOUT Jon Caldara wrote a great piece on journalists and their lack of curiosity about why trust in media has been in free fall for almost 50 years. He suggests that newsrooms take a look at their lack of political ideological diversity in the newsroom, something that will never happen. But it's more than that, it's the fact that an uncurious media kept running cover for Joe Biden when he was clearly failing mentally while in office. At least one reporter for CBS News gets it.

REALLY JAN??? REALLY??? How did we ALL SEE IT out in America and it was not even something worth looking into while he was in office. Just watch the comments after Crawford to see that they are STILL COVERING FOR HIM. These two stories are 100% related. Too bad the news media doesn't want to see it. They are still covering for him as they write obituaries about his administration. My bad, they aren't covering for him, they are covering for themselves.

CREDIT CARD DEFAULTS SKYROCKETED LAST YEAR And if you want to know why Trump won lower and middle class voters it's because they can't afford to live after Bidenomics. Credit card defaults jumped dramatically, the highest they've jumped in fourteen years last month, as the sky high cost of everything caught up with low income consumers. Check out this graph:

And that's not all, "real" job growth has been an illusion under Biden.

And it seems Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, who took over from the Trump Administration with a pile of money in reserve at Treasury, is not spending it all down before the Trump Admin takes office. Why? To screw them over. It's really that simple I think.

THIS WRITER SAYS NO TO MORE DEMOCRATIC LIES And I didn't really think about just how bad is was until she laid them out like this. There were a lot. A whole bunch. Odd they went with "Trump isn't honest" isn't it?

LET'S TALK ABOUT 2025 FOR A MINUTE Because a bunch of stuff is happening you need to know about.

WHAT STUPID NEW LAWS DO WE HAVE TO LOOK FORWARD TO? Don't touch your phone, even at a stop light in 2025, as that is now a ticketable offense. Car seat for kid requirements have changed, although I've not seen any evidence that this will make any difference for kids, and as you probably know because you can't buy eggs right now, all eggs sold in Colorado must be cage free. About that:

YES, DEMOCRATIC LEGISLATORS ARE WHY YOU CAN'T FIND EGGS RIGHT NOW And if you can, they are STUPID expensive. Just so you know, this is NOT THE CASE around the country. Yes, there is a bird flu outbreak, but an informal poll I did in a cooking Facebook group I belong to says that most states do NOT have an egg shortage, and if they have eggs they may be a wee bit more expensive but not outrageous. Read this for more on why we can't get eggs here, but take note of this part:

Another contributing factor to the egg shortage is the increase in cage-free egg farms. Cage-free eggs are laid by hens that have the freedom to roam in indoor barns instead of being separated in individual cages. While better for quality of life, these open areas make the spread of diseases, such as bird flu, much easier. As a result, cage-free egg farms are being hit the hardest in this current outbreak, resulting in a shortage of certain brands of eggs.
A few states, including California, Nevada, Washington and Oregon, have laws requiring all eggs sold in the state to be cage-free. Therefore, the egg shortage is hitting these states particularly hard as grocery stores scramble to source eggs that comply with state laws.

Get it now? Not only did this create a shortage, it could be spreading bird flu too! This is a problem created by the Democrat Legislature who were threatened by an animal rights group that they were going to take this to the ballot if they didn't get their way. Take it to the ballot then, we see how their ballot measures worked last time. So make sure to put the blame on the legislators where it is deserved.

MINIMUM WAGE IS GOING UP AGAIN and if you've been paying attention to the restaurant news you may have seen a slew of restaurants in Denver announcing they are closing before the new year or just after it. Fruition, the first restaurant by acclaimed chef Alex Seidel is closing in a couple of weeks, Cafe Brazil shut its doors in a lease dispute, and now Sushi Sasa is closing after 20 years you may be asking if these things are connected. You may be right. Read about the latest wage increase and hope your favorite restaurant doesn't go under.

PSYCHEDELIC ASSISTED THERAPY WILL BE A THING IN 2025 And the Colorado Sun did a good story on what that might look like. I'm going to try to get someone on the show about this, but it's time to have a chat with your kids about how psychedelics are not for developing brains.

SOME GOOD CONCERTS ARE COMING TO DENVER THIS YEAR And you can start planning your concert ticket buying by seeing what's coming to Ball Arena here, and who is coming to Red Rocks here.

LOOKING FOR SOMETHING FUN TO DO TONIGHT? You aren't too late, find a list of stuff here. I will be at home in my pjs.

BLESS BIDEN'S LITTLE DELUSIONAL HEART The old guy thinks he could have beaten Trump. Someone get him an extra scoop of chocolate chip ice cream today before his nap.

JIMMY CARTER HAS PASSED At the age of 100 the former President has passed away. He deserves to be remembered fondly for his work with Habitat for Humanity and a godly man who loved his wife. He's being mourned by his hometown here.

THIS SECRET SANTA WILL GUT YOU But it's just so lovely.

THAT TIME A DONKEY ADOPTED A THREE YEAR OLD BOY

THE PERFECT TIME FOR A BROTHERLY CONFESSION

A FAREWELL TO THOSE WE LOST IN 2024 And no one does it better than CBS Sunday Morning

GOD IS MAKING A COMEBACK And this story about intellectuals finding their way to God gives me hope that we can turn this dumpster fire around.
