11/8/24 Blog: It's An Ask Me Anything Sort of Day

YOU GUYS PICK THE SUBJECTS TODAY As I'm tired of it so you can Ask Me Anything today. Really, the whole day.

THIS IS SOME SNOWSTORM And we've got Fox 31s Kylie Bearse on today to discuss it for a minute.

DON'T BAN SMOKELESS TOBACCO PRODUCTS, DENVER The City Council is considering a ban, but I've got an actual doctor, Dr. Brian Erkkila, Director of Regulatory Science at Swedish Match North America to be exact, who says that banning those products takes away an important option smokers use to quit smoking. I'm talking to him today about it, but you can read about the proposed ban here and here. He joins me at 1pm.

JARED POLIS WANTS TO JACK UP YOUR POWER BILL EVEN MORE And he knows his plans to electrify everything in Colorado is going to drive up energy prices but he really doesn't care about you. It's about shoring up his environmentalist bona fides for the presidential race he's already running. Read how he's about the screw us and not care here. This is the kind of stuff the Colorado GOP should be shining a bright light onto NOW, but they can't because they are incompetently run. In a letter to various agencies the Governor essentially dismisses the rising energy costs in other places who have gone down this fool's path before us by saying they aren't doing it right. Seriously.

SOME DEMOCRATS SAY IT'S TIME TO ADOPT REPUPLICAN ISSUES Some Democrats are getting the message that what they are doing isn't working even as media talking heads try to blame Harris's loss on everyone besides themselves. This is a long column by Ruy Teixiera on the blog site The Liberal Patriot, and my mouth actually fell open when I got to the part where he says what the Democratic party should do only to find a laundry list of political points I and so many others on the Right have been using for YEARS. Just look at the FIRST one and see if that looks familiar:

  • Equality of opportunity is a fundamental American principle; equality of outcome is not.
  • America is not perfect but it is good to be patriotic and proud of the country.
  • Discrimination and racism are bad but they are not the cause of all disparities in American society.
  • Racial achievement gaps are bad and we should seek to close them. However, they are not due just to racism and standards of high achievement should be maintained for people of all races.
  • No one is completely without bias but calling all white people racists who benefit from white privilege and American society a white supremacist society is not right or fair.
  • America benefits from the presence of immigrants and no immigrant, even if illegal, should be mistreated. But border security is hugely important, as is an enforceable system that fairly decides who can enter the country.
  • Police misconduct and brutality against people of any race is wrong and we need to reform police conduct and recruitment. However, more and better policing is needed to get criminals off the streets and secure public safety. That cannot be provided by “defunding the police”.
  • There are underlying differences between men and women that should not all be attributed to sexism. However, discrimination on the basis of gender is wrong and should always be opposed.
  • People who want to live as a gender different from their biological sex should have that right. However, biological sex is real and spaces limited to biological women in areas like sports and prisons should be preserved. Medical treatments like drugs and surgery are serious interventions that should not be available on demand, especially for children.
  • Language policing has gone too far; by and large, people should be able to express their views without fear of sanction by employer, school, institution or government. Free speech is a fundamental American value that should be safeguarded everywhere.
  • Climate change is a serious problem but it won’t be solved overnight. As we move toward a clean energy economy with an “all of the above” strategy, energy must continue to be cheap, reliable and abundant. That means fossil fuels, especially natural gas, will continue to be an important part of the mix.
  • We must make America more equal, but we also must make it richer. There is no contradiction between the two. A richer country will make it easier to promote equality.
  • Degrowth is the worst idea on the left since Communism. Ordinary voters want abundance: more stuff, more opportunity, cheaper prices, nicer, more comfortable lives. The only way to provide this is with more growth, not less.
  • We need to make it much easier to build things, from housing to transmission lines to nuclear reactors. That cannot happen without serious regulatory and permitting reform.
  • America needs a robust industrial policy that goes far beyond climate policy. We are in direct competition with nations like China, a competition we cannot win without building on cutting edge scientific research in all fields.
  • National economic development should prioritize the “left-behind” areas of the country. The New Deal under Franklin Roosevelt did this and we can do it today. “Trickle-down” economics from rich metropolitan areas is not working.

Holy cow, you guys, these are ALL great ideas and if Democratic candidates want to move forward with this agenda I am all ears. Watch this Democratic strategist tell her party to tone down the idiotic wokeness that has consumed the party:

We'll see what happens next, but I think too many Dems have been cowed into silence by the wackadoodles to walk this all back anytime soon.

DENVER PUBLIC SCHOOLS PROPOSES SCHOOL CLOSURES And I know parents are going to be SUPER upset about this but there isn't really any way to stop it, as enrollment has fallen pretty dramatically in the district. You can see if you neighborhood school is on the list here.

JENA GRISWOLD HAS LOST WESTWORD And they wrote a good story about her consistent failures to do her job. Read it here but she does not politically survive this in my opinion, at least not in the near term.

WE DON'T HAVE THE 8TH CONGRESSIONAL RACE DECIDED YET And the margins are so thin it's going to be impossible to declare a winner until ALL the ballots, including mailed ballots, are counted. That will be next week. The good news is Gabe Evans is gaining and one would think that overseas and military ballots would favor him but we're going to have to wait and see.

HAMAS WANTS TO WRAP THINGS UP NOW THAT TRUMP IS PRESIDENT The statement from someone in Hamas leadership that isn't dead was this:

"The election of Trump as the 47th president of the USA is a private matter for the Americans," Hamas Political Bureau member and spokesperson Basem Naim told Newsweek, "but Palestinians look forward to an immediate cessation of the aggression against our people, especially in Gaza, and look for assistance in achieving their legitimate rights of freedom, independence, and the establishment of their independent self-sovereign state with Jerusalem as its capital."

I hope that Trump sends a message back that says "Release the hostages and we can talk." That's it. That's the message. It would a complete repeat of Reagan if they let the hostages go before the inauguration.

WE HIT OUR AVERAGE SNOWFALL FOR NOVEMBER And as we're going to get a pantload more today into tomorrow we will shoot well past that number. I'm cool with that, we need the moisture, amright?

I HAVE NO COMPASSION FOR THIS IDIOT I said I have compassion for the people on the left who have been told over and over again that Trump is a fascist who will destroy our entire system to become a dictator. I think that's stupid, but they know nothing else so I am treating them with kindness. Not this clown. This sort of nonsense is the dumbest, most idiotic pile of garbage I've ever seen. Click the link to see the photo of the mentally ill person who wrote it.

MICHAEL COHEN GETS TROLLED AND I CAN'T STOP LAUGHING

ONE DEMOCRAT GETS IT This loss may be the best thing that happens the Democratic party in years if they listen to women like this.

ANOTHER REPUBLICAN STRONGHOLD VOTES INDEPENDENT And this was in the Parker Mayor's race, where Joshua Rivero beat the incumbent Republican mayor. Much like in Colorado Springs this is a shocker but indicates what I am seeing in Douglas County overall, which is it is NOT the reliable Republican county everyone thinks it is.

WANT TO GO TUBING TODAY? here is a list of places near Denver to go tubing or sledding.

THINGS TO DO ON THIS SNOWY WEEKEND Find a list here.

IF YOU WANT TO VISIT ROCKY MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK You're gonna need a timed entry reservation if you want to make sure you get in. Read about when you can do that here.

NO, HOUSING FIRST DOESN'T WORK No matter how many times advocates yell "what about HOUSTON" it is not working here and pretty much everywhere else it's been tried. We need treatment first, maybe in a residential setting, to help people truly escape homelessness. Read a column about it here.

SHALL WE TALK ABOUT SOUP AND BREAD DUNKING?

ANOTHER WOLF BITES THE DUST this one at the paws of another wolf. Perhaps the state should provide wolves for ranchers to protect their herds from wolves. I'm being sarcastic.

YOU'VE GOT MAIL IS DEAD And I'm talking about the man who voiced the words we all wanted to hear in the early days of the internet. Elwood Edwards was only 74 but passed after a long illness.

RAYGUN HAS ENDED HER DREAM Of being an actual break dancer. The woman who became infamous after her horrific performance in the Olympic Games has ended her career as a competitive break dancer. Some would say she did that in the Olympics but now it's official.
