SO DID ANYTHING HAPPEN THIS WEEKEND? Just kidding, just a SECOND attempt on the life of former President Donald Trump. No big deal. Nothing to see. Move along. The New York Times says this in the headline:

I love the "apparent" in this one. Like, it's not SURE that a man lying next to a fence with a rifle with a scope pointing at the golf course where Trump was playing was going to shoot him but maybe? The Washington Post was a tiny measure better with this headline:

Potential seems like a slightly stronger word, right? From the Wapo story:
Around 1:30 p.m., between the fifth and seventh holes, the agent noticed a rifle muzzle poking through the tree-lined chain-link fence surrounding the golf course, Bradshaw said. The agent opened fire, and Trump’s detail rushed the former president to a holding room. The gunman fled in a black Nissan, leaving behind an AK-47-style rifle, two bags and a camera mounted to the fence to record, according to Bradshaw.
Maybe he was duck hunting? Hunting wabbits? There are surely TONS of explanations about why a man who has been trying to get "patriots" to go take up arms in Ukraine would be pointing a rifle at the golf hole where the former President would be at any minute, right? Right? Remarkably, Lester Holt found a way to remind you Orange Man Bad the day someone else shot at Trump.
But I'm sure it's fine. The "apparent" shooter is a man who "hates Trump" according to his son, but wouldn't do anything "crazy", also according to same son. Guess what, kid? Your dad is nuts. His former neighbor says everyone on the street was afraid of him so maybe she should bring junior up to speed. And just how did the gunman know Trump was going to be on the course? The game was a last minute decision, leading some to wonder how the gunman even knew he'd be there. The State of Florida will be doing it's own investigation into the incident, showing just how little the Governor trusts the FBI to do this investigation.

ABC NEWS ADMITS THEY WERE ONLY GONNA FACT CHECK TRUMP And this is the least surprising admission in the history of admissions if you watched the debate. Debate moderator Linsey Davis admitted that to the LA Times. From the non-paywalled NYPost Story:
“Davis, wearing pink glasses while speaking to The Times over breakfast at the Ritz Carlton in Philadelphia, said the decision to attempt to correct the candidates was in response to the June 27 CNN debate between Trump and President Biden, whose poor performance led to his exit from the race,” the Times reported.
“People were concerned that statements were allowed to just hang and not [be] disputed by the candidate Biden, at the time, or the moderators,” Davis told the outlet on Wednesday morning.
Let me change that last sentence: "DEMOCRATS were concerned that statements were allowed to just hang" so they decided to do the work for the Democrat candidate too weak to do it himself. Shame on them all.

THE TRIAL ABOUT THE COLORADO GOP HAS BEEN SET And over two and half days grifter Dave Williams will have the ability to make the case to a judge that he hasn't been bounced out of office, even though I believe the bylaws and a properly called meeting say he has been. A trial has been set for October 14th to sort out who is in charge of the GOP far too late to help anyone this election cycle but at least we can all move on.
ANOTHER REASON WILLIAMS MUST GO Is his idiotic focus on closing the Republican primary. That ship has sailed and doing this will only make the party even smaller, like Williams himself. He's a small, small man. Joy Overbeck writes about that here. She's right, of course.
THE JUDGE RELEASES ONE OF THE PARAMEDICS SENTENCED IN THE ELIJAH MCCLAIN CASE And I've said before I don't think any of the law enforcement officers acted with malice in the horrible incident that took the life of Elijah McClain. Now one of the paramedics has been re sentenced to four years of probation after serving 119 days of his sentence, as is allowed by Colorado law. The judge had this to say:
As he issued his ruling, Warner commented on Cichuniec’s lack of prior criminal history, rehabilitative potential, good character and his prior “pro-social” history, as well as his overall role in the events that led to McClain’s death — Cichuniec was the highest-ranking paramedic at the scene, but was most directly responsible for “the logistics of the call and safety of others involved,” Warner said.
I know this must feel horrible for McClain's family but I think this is the right thing to do. That whole night was one mistake after another and it's all incredibly tragic.
THE BLUE BOOK IS LYING ABOUT AMENDMENT 79 that is the amendment which will codify abortion into the Colorado Constitution, but that's not all it would do. It would end the ban on taxpayer funded abortions in Colorado, which would have a significant cost attached, something this column wants fixed before the Blue Book gets mailed. A lawsuit about the misleading language has been filed. Read the column here. I wish I thought this would make a difference. You want to know why I think it doesn't matter? Collectively, opponents Pro Life Colorado Fund, Vote No on 89, Colorado Life Initiative raised just over $61,000 as of Aug. 28, according to the state's campaign finance system. The Pro Life Colorado Fund is backed by the Colorado Catholic Conference, which is the voice of Colorado's Catholic bishops. Colorado Right to Life is backing Vote No on 89 and is its biggest contributor at $4,209 out of $9,000 raised. The Colorado Life Initiative has raised the most of the three groups at just over $41,000. It's backed by Angela Eicher and Faye Barnhart, advocates who have tried several times to get anti-abortion initiatives on the ballot, most recently last year. Eicher is the committee's biggest donor so far at $5,870.
On the other side, Coloradans for Reproductive Freedom has raised $6 million in the past year, with several COBALT-affiliated groups contributing $2.3 million. In July, COBALT Advocates paid for a $1 million TV ad buy for the committee, which spent $1.5 million on TV ads in July and August.

A COLORADO PARENT EVALUATOR IS FACING CHARGES And this is so, so scary to know that someone who is supposed to evaluate family situations to help judges make decisions about custody in family court can be so corrupt. From the Denver Gazette:
A grand jury has handed up a 15-count felony indictment against Shannon McShane, the former parental evaluator who last year relinquished her psychology license while dozens of custody cases in Colorado descended into chaos amid allegations that McShane falsified her credentials needed to accept court appointments.
An arrest warrant was issued for McShane’s arrest on August 29 for eight counts of attempting to influence a public servant, five counts of forgery, one count of perjury and one count of retaliating against a victim or witness.
She had already been banned by some judges who found her work to be so biased and deficient it was unusable. She had tremendous power over families and she lied and abused it. I hope she goes to jail.

Which is pass multiple spending bills to cover multiple agencies over the course of a year instead of doing another Continuing Resolution before a giant pork filled omnibus will be shoved through and deficit keeps climbing. Shut it down. Shut it all down.
REPUBLICAN GOVERNOR SAYS ENOUGH WITH THE HAITIANS EATING CATS STUFF And he says it is entirely untrue and is creating problems in Springfield and bomb threats for the Haitian community. The woman who first made the claims on social media says she has zero evidence that this happened and that the story exploded into something she didn't mean to happen. Can we move on from this?
A LONGMONT COUPLE HEADS TO OFF BROADWAY And this is the stuff that dreams are made of. After having their kids a couple decided to write a musical about parenting, as one does, and now it's headed to New York City for an off-Broadway premiere. This is an incredible story because this just doesn't happen.
