9/6/24 Blog: A Free For All Friday, And Woodland Park Schools Leap Up

IT'S A FREE FOR ALL TODAY So you can talk about anything. Heck, I may even take phone calls.

STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT ISN'T BAD EVERYWHERE Woodland Park School Board was fairly recently taken over by a conservative board. It caused a HUGE kerfuffle and there was a lot of drama but they stayed the course and let Superintendent Ken Witt focus the district on student achievement and it has paid off BIG time. I've got Ken Witt on the show at 2:30 to talk about how they boosted test scores DRAMATICALLY in a very short period of time and it's a testament to what can be accomplished if teaching kids to read and write and do math is the focus of everyone on the team.

AURORA CITY COUNCILOR DANIELLE JURINSKY TODAY AT 1:30 and I am sure she heard Governor Polis's snotty comments about her on Ross's show but if she didn't, I shall play them for her. She's back on to wrap up a week where she and her alarm bells have proven to be true.

YES, THE SITUATION IN AURORA IS THE DEMOCRATS FAULT And this editorial reminds you of how the reckless sanctuary city and state policies passed by Democrats have lead us here. From the editorial:

A 2023 law passed by the Democratic majority at the Legislature restricts the ability of state and local governments to make agreements with federal immigration officials over the detention of immigrants who unlawfully entered the country. A 2019 statute blocks local law enforcement from arresting immigrants who are wanted under federal law for illegal entry.

Castle Rock is now suing Denver because their out of control policies have bled over into the community that most certainly did NOT vote for this.

THE AURORA SLUMLORDS ASKED FOR HELP and tried to hire off duty police officers to patrol their complexes, only to be told there simply weren't enough cops to help. This according to the slumlords and confirmed by the Aurora PD. The Aurora PD is very understaffed, so this tracks. What's interesting is this bit from the Denver Gazette story:

Two properties owned by CBZ Management — according to the CSI report — in the state’s third largest city saw a doubling of citations and reported crime since 2022; one property saw nearly double.
“These three apartments clearly had something going on for the last two years,” said DJ Summers, CSI’s director of policy and research. “We don’t know if it’s from gang activity or landlord neglect.”
Publicly available crime maps, according to the report, do not show a rising crime trend in areas known to have high concentrations of immigrants in Denver or Aurora.

Conceding that this landlords were very bad landlords, how are they to blame for such a sharp uptick in crime? Is this the Broken WIndows theory in real time? Just to refresh anyone's memory, this landlord has apparently been targeted by code enforcement for a reason, but they haven't owned the buildings that long.

THE WHITE HOUSE DOESN'T HAVE A CLUE WHO HAMAS IS This story, if accurate, INFURIATED me this morning. Read this one bit:

One of the main questions raised during a meeting President Biden and Vice President Harris had with their national security team on Monday was whether there is a hostage-release and ceasefire in Gaza deal Hamas would ever agree to, U.S. officials said.
Why it matters: Biden and his top advisers were shocked after Hamas killed six hostages, among them U.S. citizen Hersh Goldberg-Polin, and have started to rethink the way forward in the negotiations over the deal.

They were "shocked"??? They were shocked that people who raped and murdered while filming themselves doing it would murder hostages right before they were rescued? How dumb is the White House? Nevermind that is rhetorical question.

THIS AS A NEW STUDY SHOW MORE COPS, LESS CRIME The Common Sense Institute wrote a paper that supports ballot initiative 157, which would pour state dollars into law enforcement to bring up the number of cops on the street in Colorado. The ballot initiative would appropriate $350 million to fund police recruitment, training, and support for police officers and their families. This at a time when pretty much every urban department is not up to fully authorized staffing levels. From the Denver Gazette:

The CSI report analyzes crime rates and law enforcement funding between 2011 and 2023, saying that crime rose 26% overall in that period — with motor vehicle thefts going up 225% — as Colorado’s lagging law enforcement cadre of 2.2 officers per 1,000 people continues to fall behind the national average of 2.4 officers.
The report provided no actual crime numbers to back up those percentages, but cited the FBI Uniform Crime Reporting as its source.
The report says that the number of sworn police officers in law enforcement agencies in Colorado shrank from 69% in 2013 to 65% in 2023. From 2011 to 2024, the number of officers with arrest powers increased 7.9%, half the rate by which the state’s population rose.
In Denver, between 2010 and 2022, the number of uniformed police declined 15.1% as the crime rate increased 32%.

Seems more cops DOES equal less crime, no matter what "criminal justice reform" folks try to tell you.

WILL CHARGING PARENTS STOP SCHOOL SHOOTINGS? I have no idea but it's one thing we CAN control here, so why not? The father of the shooter from Georgia has been charged for not just NOT securing his own weapons but knowingly allowing his troubled son to have a weapon. Read more here, but if this helps, I'm all for it.

JEFFCO SCHOOLS IS BEING SUED by parents of a student who was supposed to share a bed with a student of another gender who identifies as transgender. This one is going to be interesting to watch because they district says they did not know the student in question was a trans girl. Read more here.

TIME TO BUY A GENERATOR Because we are moving closer to more and more "renewable/unreliable" energy for the grid after the Feds dropped a boatload of money into Colorado power so we will shut off our reliable coal fired power plants to replace them with wind and solar. Read more here.

THE AUGUST JOBS REPORT SUCKED As it showed a measly 140,000 jobs being created last month, which was lower than the expected 161,000. The only good news here is the next story.

THE FED SAYS IT'S TIME And they will drop the rate in a week or so when they meet. At least that is what I took from this story about the Chair of the NY Federal Reserve who said it is time.

YOU DON'T HATE THE ASSOCIATED PRESS ENOUGH Exhibit A is a tweet they sent out yesterday before being ratioed and community noted to death so they took it down. You can see it in this story, but the story behind the tweet is that JD Vance was speaking at an event when he spoke about the Georgia school shooting, saying "I don’t like that this is a fact of life. But if you are a psycho and you want to make headlines, you realize that our schools are soft targets. And we have got to bolster security at our schools." So what did the AP Tweet out?

This is exactly what I'm talking about when I say Trump isn't just running against Vice President Harris, he's running against the entire media establishment. The AP deleted the tweet and posted this instead:

They then added this:

What they meant to say is it replaced a tweet that deliberately misquoted Vance to make him look like a soulless villain so people won't vote for him. You're Welcome, AP.

WALZ MAKES A SICK BURN A SELF OWN So JD Vance had an awkward encounter in a donut shop and since Tim Walz and Vice President Kamala Harris don't really have anything to campaign ON Walz decided to make a big deal out that by letting everyone know HE LOVES donuts. The big issue is that he posed in front of a donut shop that went out of business because of his draconian Covid lockdowns. Whoops. Read it here.

WHY ARE TRANS WOMEN SO MUCH MORE LIKELY TO COMMIT SEX CRIMES? I will not be going into this today, but check out this entire X thread about statistics out of the UK:

ABOUT THAT HUNTER BIDEN PLEA DEAL Jonathan Turley says this a bad idea for Hunter Biden and his attorneys.

Hunter Biden struck a deal last night and will be sentenced on December 16th.

THE SWEETEST THING HAPPENED AT RED ROCKS LAST NIGHT I took The Q and some of her friends to see a band they love that I had never heard of called Wallows. They had two opening acts, the first of which was a duo composed of the Dads of two of the band members. They played covers that no one else but me knew, did about six songs and then declared "HOW COOL IS THIS??" before leaving the stage. The band said they wanted to give the chance to the men who taught them how to play instruments to play Red Rocks and it was the sweetest dad gift ever. Click here to watch them play.

LOTS OF COOL STUFF HAPPENING HERE THIS WEEKEND Like the Denver Food and Wine Festival or the Taste of Korea festival, or the Gem and Mineral show, or even the Flock Party at the Zoo. Click the names to get more info.
