THERE IS A RALLY TO STOP THE WAR ON CHILDREN And it is going to be a barnburner, with a slate of speakers like Jennifer Sey who have spoken out about the way we are ruining childhoods with gender identity, boys in girls sports and spaces, and the mutilation of children in the name of LGBTQIA rights. Jennifer is a former executive with Levis who left the company rather than be quiet on the damage done to children by school shutdowns during covid. YES, GANGS TOOK OVER APARTMENT COMPLEXES IN 2023 How do we know? Well CBS 4 did actual journalism and found out that a very prominent group of attorneys were hired by the lender to the owners of the complexes to find out what was going on there way back in 2023. What did they find? From CBS 4:
A Denver law firm, hired to look into an alleged gang takeover of an Aurora apartment building, says they found the Venezuelan TDA gang began taking over the Whispering Pines Apartments in late 2023. Since then, the gang has engaged in violent assaults, threats of murder, extortion, strongarm tactics, and child prostitution as they have exerted a "stranglehold" on the Aurora apartment complex. That's according to a letter sent to Aurora Mayor Mike Coffman, Aurora City Manager Jason Batchelor, and the interim police chief that was obtained by CBS News Colorado.
Each page of the nine-page report was labeled "CONFIDENTIAL TREATMENT REQUESTED." The Perkins Coie law firm shared its findings on Aug. 9 with Aurora's top administrators. (emphasis mine)
"The evidence we have reviewed indicates that gang members are engaging in flagrant trespass violations, assaults and battery, human trafficking and sexual abuse of minors, unlawful firearms possession, extortion, and other criminal activities, often targeting vulnerable Venezuelan and other immigrant populations," wrote T. Markus Funk, a former U.S. Attorney.
So not only was it KNOWN that the gangs had taken over the complexes, it was SHARED with Aurora's top administrators in early August, BEFORE all the gaslighting of Danielle Jurinsky took place.
AND YEP, GANG MEMBERS HAVE BEEN ARRESTED As the Aurora PD announced last night in a Twitter post.
And yes, two things can be true at the same time. These landlords are slumlords and gangs have taken over apartment complexes owned by slumlords. All the people living there deserve better.
WE'VE GOT PROPERTY TAX CERTAINTY...FOR SIX YEARS The compromise struck by the ballot initiatives put forth by Advance Colorado and Colorado Concern has been signed into law and the ballot initiatives have been pulled with a promise that no more property tax ballot initiatives will be run by those two organization. This has progressives who would prefer to take and spend our money without our input spitting mad. Heh. Read more here.
RAISING THE MINIMUM WAGE HURTS PEOPLE IN POVERTY and this is a great editorial about the negative impacts of a higher minimum wage on those it's supposed to help. Denver is about to hike it's minimum wage AGAIN and maybe they should pay attention to what the end results are going to be. From the editorial:
Harvard Business Review studied 5,000 employees and found that “for every $1 increase in the minimum wage … the average number of hours each worker worked per week decreased by 20.8%.”
The study found “the total wage compensation of an average minimum wage worker” in California fell by 13.6%” after the state last raised the minimum.
It gets worse, the study says, because “for every $1 increase in minimum wage, the percentage of workers working more than 20 hours per week (eligible for retirement benefits) decreased by 23%, while the percentage of workers with more than 30 hours per week (eligible for health care benefits) decreased by 14.9%.”
We must stop this madness.

THE COLORADO PRESS ASSOCIATION REWARDS POLITICIANS WHO HATE TRANSPARENCY This is actually pretty shameful if you ask me, and it speaks to the cozy nature of these journalists with the politicians they are supposed to be holding to account. They just gave Defenders of the Press awards to two politicians who literally just exempted themselves and other politicians from open meeting requirements. That is absurd.
HOW CONGRESS WORKED TOGETHER ON THE TIKTOK BAN And to be clear, the ban is just being heard in the courts now, so it could be a while for any actual resolution. I still believe that if you've built a brand on TikTok only you are setting yourself up for a really big fall if they ban is upheld, and it's reasonable to think it will be. It's long but it's an example of what happens when both sides agree that China is a geopolitical foe that needs to have its access curtailed. Read it here.

HAS CLIMBING 14ERS PEAKED? See what I did there? This article says the number of people climbing the states 14ers has dropped pretty dramatically this year. This past year saw the same number of hikers as we saw in 2015, way down from the overcrowded Covid years. Closed access to some mountains has been to blame, but fewer people are moving to Colorado so perhaps that's it too?
A VIDEO GAME GOES BROKE GOING WOKE It's almost like they don't learn. Sony spent $150 MILLION on a new first person shooter game called Concord, where the characters all had their pronouns listed in the bios. The game was a massive flop and Sony has pulled it and is refunding purchasers and now everyone is trying to figure out why. It's a mystery, to be sure.

YES, YOU CAN LEAVE A WEDDING EARLY Sometimes people ask things on the internet and I am genuinely confused as to why they are asking the question because it seems so OBVIOUS to me. This time a woman asked if she could leave a wedding before the after party for a variety of reasons. Of course the answer is yes, just don't be a jerk about it. EAGLES FANS DON'T TAKE FAKE KAMALA ADS LIGHTLY And one lifelong Philly fan took it upon himself to cover up the fake ads at bus stops up with printed copies of the Eagles statement that the ads saying Kamala was "their candidate" are fake. You go, Philly Fan Joe.
TIM WALZ'S FAMILY IS ALL IN FOR TRUMP and this makes me kind of sad because you know this family will never be the same again and I'm one of those idiots who thinks family is more important than politics. That being said, it's really sad Tim and his brother haven't spoken in eight years too. His brother has decided to not say anything more than he doesn't agree with Tim's politics and that's probably a good thing.
