8/6/24 Blog: Kamala Picks Minnesota Governor Tim Walz for Veep

DON'T MISS THE NEXT MANDY CONNELL ADVENTURE TO JAPAN AND SOUTH KOREA! This trip is a 15 magical adventure to South Korea and Japan! We are leaving next June to fly to Seoul before we hop on the Celebrity Millenium for a 10 day sail around the island of Japan. We've got stops in:

Jeju Island, Japan, is home to the best scuba diving in South Korea. If scuba isn’t your thing how about strolling through the world’s longest lava tube cave?
Nagasaki, where the influence of both European and Chinese cultures radiates.
Kagoshima, Japan, is the sister city of Naples, Italy because of their palm tree-lined streets and looming volcano. See a Japanese garden, or just take a mud bath at one of their acclaimed spas.
Hiroshima, Japan where more than 300 cherry blossom trees in bloom at Peace Memorial Park pay tribute to the nuclear bombing in WWII.
Kochi, Japan to enjoy some Katsuo no tataki, Kochi’s most famous dish, and visit the temple and botanical garden at Mount Godaisan.
Kyoto, Japan where there is so much to do we get two days! Kyoto served as the nation’s capital for more than 1000 years and is home to 17 different World Heritage Sites including Kiyomizudera Temple and Heian Jingu Shrine.
Mt. Fuji, Japan one of the best-known symbols of Japan, this iconic mountain has been considered sacred since ancient times and was even forbidden to women until the early 1900s.
We finish up our adventure in Toyko! All this between June 5th and June 19th, 2025.

KAMALA PICKS MINNESOTA GOVERNOR TIM WALZ FOR VP And I've got fellow talk show host from Minnesota's Twin Cities News Talk at 2 to give you a little taste of what the Governor is REALLY like! Read this for the Reuters version of his life. David Strom of Hotair.com talks about why this is a horrible pick here.

RICH GUGGENHEIM JOINS TO DISCUSS THE BALLOT INITIATIVES TO PROTECT KIDS Neither got enough signatures to make the ballot but Rich is optimistic that the topic has been raised in all corners of the state. We'll find out what's next for Gays Against Groomers and Rich's new role there. Find out more about Gays Against Groomers here.

COMEDIAN EMO PHILIPS JOINS ME TODAY AT 2:30 And I was trying to remember the first time I saw him and I think this is it:

He's still out there doing his very special brand of comedy. It's been described as a mix of comedy and karaoke and he's at Comedy Works this weekend and you should buy your tickets here.

THE MEN'S 100 METER FINISH WAS INSANE And just because I didn't talk about it yesterday doesn't mean I'm still obsessively watching the Olympics. NBC won't let me embed the race but you can click here and watch it. Strategy matters as much as speed sometimes. We have the most medals overall by far, and have now caught China, who is dominant is diving, in the Gold medal category as well.

WHY SHOULD STUDENTS BE LET OFF WHEN A GRANDMOTHER WASN'T? I've got these two totally unconnected stories today that demonstrate the two tiered justice system perfectly. First the story of a Fountain grandmother who participated in the Stop the Steal rally where she walked into the Capitol building on January 6th, didn't cause any problem there and walked out. She's been tried and convicted and faces a year in prison. Now we have a civil rights attorney demanding that the charges be dropped against the students who camped out at the Auraria campus and did hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage. From the Denver Gazette:

At the peak of the protest action, campus authorities said the activists destroyed the sod in the quad, engaged in graffiti tagging and vandalism, occupied and trashed an office, and set up tents inside the Tivoli Student Union building. School Authorities also said they paid for a hazmat team to handle a spill from an illegal toilet.

So what's it going to be? Justice for ALL or justice for those we agree with? I'm genuinely curious.

THE GOP AND DPS COULD USE A DOSE OF SHAME And Jimmy Sengenberger writes about it all here.

DENVERITES AREN'T HAVING BABIES And this is bad news for Denver and Denver Public Schools. Read more here.

A FANCY NEW WORD FOR BEING MARRIED TO A CHEATER I've said this on the show before that some women are willing to put up with a cheating husband because they don't want to give up the lifestyle their marriage affords (coughMelaniacough) them. Now we have a new word for putting up with a known cheater: tolyamory. There is nothing "amory" about this for me, if Chuck stepped out he'd be kicked out and he'd do the same for me because we have self respect. From the Daily Mail:

There’s even a trendy new term for turning a blind eye to your partner’s affairs, while remaining faithful yourself: tolyamory. The word is a blend of ‘polyamory’ — which denotes those who have more than one sexual partner — and ‘tolerating’.

I can't even with this.

DRINKING TOO MUCH WATER IS VERY BAD And can lead to water intoxication that can actually kill you. What is it? The Wall Street Journal helps out with this:

Water intoxication isn’t as well-known as dehydration. That can make it difficult to pinpoint the cause of symptoms, which can be similar to those associated with heat exhaustion or heat stroke, said Rayven Nairn, senior dietitian for student health and well-being at Johns Hopkins University.
When someone drinks too much water over a short period, it can lead to the dilution of sodium in the blood, known as hyponatremia or water intoxication. The condition can grow particularly dangerous when it leads to the swelling of brain cells. The expansion puts pressure on certain parts of the brain and can lead to coma, seizures or death, scientists say. Brooke Shields told Glamour last year she suffered a seizure after drinking too much water. A representative for Shields declined to comment.
Drinking too much water essentially makes it difficult for the body to keep up healthy levels of sodium, an electrolyte that helps balance the fluid in cells. A person’s kidneys can typically manage about one liter of water per hour, said Thunder Jalili, a professor of nutrition and integrative physiology at the University of Utah.

So no more than a liter of water per hour, k? And make sure you eat enough salt!

HOW GOING TO THE MOVIES HAS CHANGED This does not bode well for movie theaters but is anyone surprised? Since the pandemic the share of people going to the movies has flipped completely. Now 65% of us watch movies at home, while only 35% of us go to the movies. When our boys were younger we saw EVERY movie that came out in the theater and now I can't remember the last time I went to a theater. Read more here.

GOOGLE IS A MONOPOLY That is the ruling yesterday that could lead to the eventual breakup of Alphabet, Google's parent company. The ruling said "The court reaches the following conclusion: Google is a monopolist, and it has acted as one to maintain its monopoly," U.S. District Judge Amit Mehta, Washington, D.C., wrote. Google controls about 90% of the online search market and 95% on smartphones. This means that a remedy will need to be found after Google appeals this ruling which they most certainly will. The remedy could mean the end of Google as we know it and this has all tech companies on edge.
