8/2/24 Blog: A Former Olympia Reports From Paris, & A Wine Walk Is Coming!

IT'S A FREE FOR ALL FRIDAY Because it's Friday and I've got a big weekend coming up and I'm feeling like you guys doing some of the work here.

JEREMY BLOOM KNOWS HOW THE ATHLETES FEEL Because he WAS one of them. Hailing from Loveland Colorado, Jeremy grew up with an incredible active family, and was involved in sports year-round. At age 15, Jeremy was the youngest male free-style skier to make the US Olympic team and went on to become a three-time World Champion, two-time Olympian, eleven-time World Cup Gold Medalist, and the youngest freestyle skier to be inducted into the United States Skiing Hall of Fame. On the gridiron, Jeremy found equal stardom and success. An All-American at the University of Colorado, Jeremy was drafted as a wide receiver and return specialist for the 2006 Philadelphia Eagles. An injury slowed down his career and he retired from football in 2007. He has since been a College Football and Olympic Sports Television Analyst and has worked for ESPN, Fox, NBC and The Pac-12 Network. Coming from an extremely close family, Jeremy founded his non-profit, Wish of a Lifetime Charity in 2008, in honor of his grandmother. The non-profit grants lifelong wishes to 80, 90, & 100+ year old people and since its inception has fulfilled more than 1k wishes in 46 states. Wish of a Lifetime was acquired by AARP in 2020, with Jeremy sitting as the current chairman of the board. I'm talking with Jeremy today at 1 from Paris. To be clear, HE's in Paris, I'm just here. Bummer. Find out more about his non-profit here and Jeremy by clicking here.

IT'S TIME FOR ANOTHER WINE WALK! And James Blanchard of Blanchard Family Wines joins me to talk about the upcoming walk which is coming up August 24th at the Dairy Block in Denver. This is a great event and if I could sleep after drinking wine I would totally go. Buy your tickets before they sell out here.

JIMMY SENGENBERGER JOINS ME WITH TRIAL OF THE CENTURY UPDATES I am of course talking about the trial of former Mesa County Clerk of Court Tina Peters who is facing charges of identity theft and more for her role in accessing and sharing voting records in her quest to prove voter fraud. He's following the trial so I don't have to.

Y'ALL THE OLYMPICS HAS GOT ME And I realize I'm supposed to be not watching because there is a couple of dudes fighting women in boxing (but is one of them actually a dude or just intersex?) and they mocked the Last Supper in the Opening Ceremonies but I'M HERE FOR THE ATHLETES. Simone Biles wins again, Katie Ledecky is gonna be the goat and can we talk about the Turkish pistol shooter for a second? Dude wanders up to compete wearing a t-shirt and ear plugs but no other fancy equipment and his hand in his pocket and gets a silver medal. He's the most chill athlete in the history of athletes and maybe that's because he's been doing this since the 2008 Games. Here's what to watch today, as track and field kicks off. Does not participating in a meaningless boycott make me a bad right leaner? Just asking.

SECRET SERVICE WHISTLEBLOWERS THROW THE ACTING DIRECTOR UNDER THE BUS By sending a letter to Senator Josh Hawley alleging that HE was the one who cut the team that should have done the site visit prior to the rally in Butler County, Pennsylvania where Trump was shot. Whoopsie. I'm sure he'll be held accountable for lying to Congress. JUST KIDDING, that only happens to Trump supporters.

NO, JARED POLIS IS NO LIBERTARIAN And this interview with the ONLY actual Libertarian holding office in Colorado as Mayor of Keenesburg calls out Fake Libertarian Governor with Jon Caldara. This is a really good episode.

A BACK THE BLUE INITIATIVE WILL BE ON THE BALLOT And in addition to providing a ton more money for training and retention for law enforcement, it also creates a pool of money to provide for the families of officers who die in the line of duty. I appreciate this very much and wish there were a similar payout for any first responder or member of the military who died in the line of duty. Please vote yes for this initiative as our law enforcement agencies have been gutted since Defund the Police was the rallying cry of many Democrats.

COLORADO HAS GONE AFTER TICKET RESELLERS And I can't wait to see if StubHub changes the flow on their website to keep selling tickets in Colorado now that they must show the price with ALL THE FEES BEFORE you buy, which is common sense but trust me not the way things are now. Though I hate more laws this set of laws is necessary because the shady scalpers who have been ripping people off for years have created the need for it. Read more here.

WHICH BALLOT INITIATIVE ON PROPERTY TAXES SHOULD YOU VOTE FOR? The Independence Institute did a deep dive on Initiatives 50 and 108. One of them is far better than the other simply based on how they would work, so read here and educate yourself on why Prop 108 (which isn't on the ballot yet) is the better choice going forward.

BRONCO GREAT RANDY GRADISHAR GETS HIS GOLD JACKET THIS WEEKEND As he is inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton this weekend. Read this great article on his career here.

THESE FIRES ARE HUMAN CAUSED I asked the question yesterday if anyone else thought these fires were being set by someone and that is still a mystery but we know that the fires were likely human caused. Is that arson? Maybe, maybe not. It could just be a dumbass not putting out a fire they shouldn't have lit properly. I got an email from someone who said they were camping LAST WEEKEND and people were ignoring the burn ban and having campfires. Y'all. Stop. "Weird items" found at the Quarry Fire have sparked an arson investigation there. I hope they catch whoever did it if it was arson.

A DEAD BIRD CAUSED A FIRE BY THE FORT And I am happy to report it was extinguished before it got out of control. Apparently a bird electrocuted itself on a power line and fell to the ground and sparked the brush fire. That's how dry things are. Yikes.

THERE IS ALL KINDS OF STUFF TO DO THIS WEEKEND And you can find a great list here.

THE SOFT JOBS NUMBERS ARE ROILING THE MARKET The jobs report was softer than expected and the unemployment rate ticket up to 4.3% sparking fears of a recession. Wall Street responded with a sell off as the market is dipping today over fears the Federal Reserve may have waited too long to cut interest rates.

WAIT UNTIL YOU HEAR HOW ISRAEL TOOK OUT THE HAMAS CHIEF Talk about the long game. The bomb that took Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh out in a fancy guest house was planted TWO MONTHS prior to him arriving there and detonated after Israel confirmed he was in the guest house. I'm guessing that today in Iran there are tons of people earnestly searching the property for bombs. Read more here. Israel also announced that the leader of Hamas's Military wing was taken out last month in Gaza. Funny how Netanyahu met with Kamala and then came back to start busting heads and wrapping things up. Funny. The assassinations have taken out all the leadership of Hamas except one dude: Yahya Sinwar. He's got to be looking over his shoulder a little bit harder right now. He's believed to be in a tunnel in Gaza right now and I bet he won't be popping his head out anytime soon.

WHEN IS A MELEE NOT A MELEE? Jimmy Sengenberger asks that question as the Aurora PD seem to be downplaying a massive gathering by Venezuelans at a Target to celebrate the "defeat" of Maduro in Venezuela (we all know how that's turning out). They shot guns in the air and left masses of trash in a Target parking lot and is caused a total disruption for many in Aurora. Jimmy asks here why the Aurora PD is downplaying the severity of the event where a police officer filed a report that his car had been shot? This rhetorical question is easy to answer but I think the police should work to hold the social media organizers accountable for the aftermath.

ANOTHER TECHIE COMES OUT FOR TRUMP This is happening with some frequency now and I think it's consequential.

THE COLORADO GOP LEADERSHIP TAKES A PAGE FROM THE DEMS And Joy Overbeck writes about it here.

THE FAILURE OF THE STATE GOP HAS FAR REACHING IMPACTS And the Colorado Sun did a good piece on how candidates are going it alone this election cycle as "Chairman" Dave Williams uses party resources to try to cling to power instead of getting Republicans elected. His wild incompetence will go down in history as just that. What a failure he is.

KIDS NEED COMMUNITY This is a great column about the need for real community for kids and how the lack of such community is why kids are struggling with so much anxiety and depression these days. Not online community, but real, in person community with other kids they share things in common with. Read it here.

E-CIGS ARE HELPING PEOPLE QUIT SMOKING And this is great news and should tamp down the nanny staters trying to protect the tobacco industry (and that is what they are doing by trying to ban vapes). Studies are showing that people are far more successful at quitting when they switch to vape pens first.

DON'T SHOW THIS TO THE BIRDS AREN'T REAL PEOPLE If you don't know what that reference is find it here and you should be warned it's an insane rabbit hole to go down.

WATER BOTTLEGATE STORMS TWITTER I am only making you see this because I saw it and I'll be gosh darned if I'm the only one to see this. This is a VERY lengthy Twitter thread about Donald Trump reaching over and taking the water bottle intended for ABC News's Rachel Scott. As one who has participated in many, many panel discussions the most likely explanation is that Trump was thirsty and as he was facing the panelists and away from his own water bottle behind him he simply grabbed the bottle he saw. But read this to understand how nuts the Left is about Trump. Hooboy.

SNOOP DOGG AND MICHAEL PHELPS SWIM And I WISH I could embed this but I can't. It's hilarious. Find it here. Find the best of Snoop's first two day of coverage here. Here he is calling steeplechase. Tippy top made me laugh out loud.

AND NOW, A BARKING SAINT BERNARD PUPPY Because they are the cutest puppies.

THIS CLASS IS TOO HARD Unlearning Southern stuff.
