7/16/24 Blog: Day Two From the RNC, Plus Trump Is Different

HOLY COW THAT WAS A LOT YESTERDAY Day one of the convention was VERY eventful as not only did President Trump announce that Ohio Senator JD Vance is his running mate but he made an appearance at the convention last night to sit with family and friends. The welcome was overwhelming from the Republicans in the FiServ Forum but Trump was not his same over the top self. He seemed grateful and humbled to me, and Arod said he sort of seemed embarrassed by all the cheering. What did you see in him last night?

JD VANCE IS THE 2ND BANANA And I'm not entirely surprised by this. Much is being made of Vance's criticisms of Trump back in 2016 while he was making the rounds promoting his book. I am not bothered by this at all. He's already addressed his earlier comments by saying,

“When you are wrong about something – you should change your mind and be honest with people about that fact.”

I think he's a good pick that won't have much impact on whether or not someone is going to vote for Trump.

THINGS I DIDN'T EXPECT FROM LAST NIGHT Specifically two speakers that I did not think would appear, let alone give good speeches. First off is Amber Rose, the rapper who rose to fame with the help of a brief relationship with Kanye West. She talked about how she "did her own research" and decided Trump was the right choice. She gave a challenge to mindless young people to do their own research. Watch her here.

And then, in what was a political earthquake, the President of the Teamster Sean O'Brien gave an absolute tent pole revival, anti corporate speech about taking care of the workers which was mostly well received. Watch the whole thing here.

TODAY'S THEME IS MAKE AMERICA SAFE AGAIN So we will be hearing about crime and border security.

JOE SCARBOROUGH IS SALTY ABOUT BEING BOOTED YESTERDAY And he had this to say about it. Take from that what you will.

ELON MUSK IS COMMITTING FULLY TO TRUMP And he has promised $45 Million A MONTH to a Trump Super PAC. From the Wall Street Journal:

Other backers of the group, called America PAC, include Palantir Technologies co-founder Joe Lonsdale, the Winklevoss twins, former U.S. Ambassador to Canada Kelly Craft and her husband, Joe Craft, who is chief executive of coal producer Alliance Resource Partners
Formed in June, America PAC is focused on registering voters and persuading constituents to vote early and request mail-in ballots in swing states, according to one of the people. The coalition assessed that the Democrats have historically had very robust “get out the vote” campaigns and took note of the amounts of money that the Biden camp has dedicated to what are called on-the-ground efforts in swing states. America PAC will try to counter that.

By the way, he also has implied he's an alien. WELL DUH. In related news, X.com seems to be doing okay.

WE RAN INTO VIVEK RAMASWAMY YESTERDAY and I got to do my first ever Walk and Talk as he went from one venue to the next. Check it out!
