HAVE YOU EVER WANTED TO BE A FLY ON A WALL? I often think to myself "man, I'd love to be fly on the wall when THAT conversation took place" when I read about some stuff on the Left. Nellie Bowles new book Morning After the Revolution: Dispatches from the Wrong Side of History (Buy it here) is EXACTLY what that's like. Nellie shares stories of the inner workings of some estimable institutions and I could not put this book down. IT'S MEMORIAL DAY, Y'ALL And I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend with family and friends. I sure hope you'll take a minute on Monday to remember those who fought to insure freedom and liberty for the United States of America and all its inhabitants. This isn't the weekend to thank your veteran friends, though that's a nice thought. This is to remember those who never made it home from protecting the nation. Say a prayer of gratitude, send positive thoughts to the aether, meditate for a few about it, whatever it is that makes you feel connected to those who came before just do it on Monday before the BBQ. IMAGINE IF THEY COVERED GUN CONTROL LIKE THEY COVER ABORTION This is a really good column on what happens when the news media agrees with one point but disagrees with the other. We here in Colorado live in a state where gun rights will continually be under attack as long as Democrats run the state, whereas abortion is so protected here it will likely be codified into our Constitution here. One is ALREADY protected in the Constitution, the other is a made up "right" not addressed at all in the Constitution. And yet, the media treats them as completely the opposite. OUR RESERVOIRS ARE SITTING PRETTY THIS YEAR This article goes over snowpack melt and other such data and the news is good for the most part. MORE VETERANS GET BENEFITS FROM THE PACT ACT The military does stuff to soldiers and airmen and sailors that leaves long term negative impacts and they are slow to offer care for the ensuing fallout illnesses and diseases these men and women suffer from. I'm very glad it only took twenty or so years for them to do something for men and women who stood over toxic burn pits in the middle east who now have horrible illnesses because of it and now 20,000 more of them have been extended help via the PACT Act. MAYOR MIKE ISN'T READY FOR PRIME TIME Did you know the Mayor, almost one YEAR into the job, just finished filling out his Cabinet positions? I've been told by insiders that many people who would normally get those jobs are taking a pass on working for the Mayor's office under Johnston and this editorial seems to lay out many ways that seems to be accurate. In his defense, he's doing EXACTLY what he said he'd do in the campaign and those of us who knew those plans were bad tried to tell you but here we are.
BIG BROTHER IS REALLY HAPPENING IN CHINA RIGHT NOW As the Chinese have created a chatbot based on their Dear Leader Xi Jinping in order to "help" the Chinese people think and act the right way. The Chatbot is programmed to espouse only core socialist values and is under the control of the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC). The CAC has made the rules for all Chinese chatbots:
The CAC has spearheaded the country's rule-setting for the use of generative AI and what it's capable of.
The watchdog stipulates that generative AI bots, like those created by Chinese firms Alibaba and Baidu, "embody core socialist values" and cannot “contain any content that subverts state power”.
For example, both Alibaba and Baidu's chatbots typically ask users to restart the conversation when pressed about sensitive topics. ... A line in one of the documents says chatbots must “ensure that in thought, politics, and action, we are always in high alignment with the Party Central Committee with General Secretary Xi Jinping at its core."
Another says: "Let us unite more closely around the Party Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core."

The exoplanet, called Gliese 12 b, is slightly smaller than our planet and has an estimated surface temperature of 107 degrees Fahrenheit - assuming it doesn't have an atmosphere.
Gliese 12 b sits just inward of the habitable zone - the distance from a star at which liquid water could exist on orbiting planets' surfaces.

COMPETITIVE EATING HAS BROKEN A CHAMP As one of the "sport's" biggest stars is retiring and says his body feels "broken". Takeru Kobayashi has been doing this for 20 years, and now says he has no appetite or sensation of fullness and often goes days without eating because of it. He's in a new documentary about what he's done to his digestive system and in it, he underwent multiple tests during the documentary to diagnose his lack of appetite and reduced sense of smell. Doctors and scientists determined that Kobayashi's chronic overeating has affected his nervous system and that his brain is still trained to think he's competing or eating highly processed foods, despite stepping away from competition. This is super sad. But what a career to choose in the first place!
