DENVER PUBLIC SCHOOLS IS DEFENDING ITS STIFLING OF FREE SPEECH And they are doing so by forcing employees to to sign a Non Disclosure Agreement, or NDA if they want to get an offered settlement when they are cut loose. This is not normal according to the Denver Gazette who called other school districts to find out if they used these too. It also seems to fly in the face of a new law forbidding the use of such NDAs by government agencies. They are claiming that it is to protect the privacy of students, but why don't they make teachers sign one then? Why would someone working in Communications need to sign an NDA to protect students they don't work with daily but a teacher doesn't? This is all super hinky. From the Denver Gazette story:
Board President Carrie Olson said she was made aware of the policy but did not recall when it was implemented nor by whom. While calling the policy “standard business practice,” Olson said teachers are not asked to sign NDAs.
“The protection of private student and employee data is important, and NDAs are one small step we can take to protect our students and staff,” Olson said in an email.
So again, why don't teachers sign them if this is about protecting students? This make no sense whatsoever.
HOMELESS SHELTERS BRING TROUBLE WHEREVER THEY ARE that is the conclusion of this article from the Denver Gazette that interviews business owners near the new lodging for homeless people that don't require any sort of sobriety or responsibility from the residents. Read this quote from a man who runs a Bed and Breakfast with his wife in South Broadway:
"The city is literally falling into the second ring of hell," said Miller. "We are under siege."
You can read the rest here but you already know what it says if you listen to the show. But maybe there is hope from this next story.
DENVER ARRESTS PEOPLE FOR VIOLATING THE CAMPING BAN This is refreshing and I hope those caught up in this sweep take their time in jail to do some reflecting and finally decide to accept the offers of help that come on a near daily basis. A new camp was being set up after another camp was shut down a day earlier, but this one is not being allowed to take hold. Cops arrested 11 people as outreach team members tried to get these people into shelters until housing can be made available for them. We'll see if this continues.
WHEN BUYING A HOTEL FOR HOMELESS PEOPLE MAKES PEOPLE HOMELESS That appears to be what is about to happen when a Lakewood hotel was sold to Recovery Works, which intends to use the hotel as transitional housing for homeless people. Unfortunately it currently serves as home for some working poor who can't afford a more expensive place to live and they are being told to vacate by tomorrow. One woman, who works at a gas station nearby, says she will be left homeless by this. Recovery Works says they will pay for first and last month's rent for her, but she probably can't find anything as cheap as what she's paying now.
THE FACTS ABOUT POLICE SHOOTINGS This is an interesting article that does a deep dive into police shootings to dispel some myths that persist. It isn't all nice to the police (they still haven't changed much in terms of training and other things they can control) but it does dispel the narrative that police are on the hunt for black men to kill. Read it here, we shall do a deep dive today.
COACH PRIME SAYS NO WAY HE'D TELL KIDS WHERE TO PLAY This is one of those things that gets started by some idiot and then takes hold. Coach Deion Sanders says the lie about him telling kids where to play in the NFL...or not to play...is just that..a lie. Read more here.
WHAT'S KILLING PATRIOTISM IN THE US? Mike Rosen says The Left and he's not wrong. It all started with Howard Zinn and has gone nowhere but downhill from there. Read his great column here.
FIRST NPR, AND NOW CBS NEWS We all know about media bias (unless you're a Democrat who thinks such a thing is like the tooth fairy or bigfoot) and it's refreshing to see anyone asking real questions like are being asked about the new leadership at NPR (same as the old, really) and now what happened at CBS News when they fired Catherine Herridge. The longtime reporter was cut loose as part of mass layoffs according to CBS News, but then why did they seize her notes and all her work and not allow her to take it with her? That's the question being asked here, you should read it.
HAS ANYONE DONE THIS ON THEIR YARDS? I'm thinking of doing this to redo an overgrown bed.
PFIZER LIES TO US...AGAIN This time about Paxlovid, the "wonder drug" that Pfizer put out to fight Covid. A newer study shows it is not a wonder at all, but completely ineffective. Read the summary from the researchers themselves:
The time to sustained alleviation of all signs and symptoms of Covid-19 did not differ significantly between participants who received nirmatrelvir–ritonavir and those who received placebo.
The study, paid for by Pfizer, also showed that there was NO difference in outcomes for vaccinated people with risk factors and unvaccinated people. Whoops. Read the story here.
THE ACLU MAKES CRITICIZING A BLACK PERSON RACIST Remember when the ACLU stood proudly for free speech? Oh, that's just when they defended porn, not today. Today they fired a female lawyer of Korean descent because she criticized her bosses, who happen to be black. They initially said she used racist language, but when she sued they had to admit she just CRITICIZED leadership who happened to be black. Read the insane story of how the ACLU made criticism of black people in any way racist here.
ISRAEL SAYS THEY WILL STRIKE BACK And Iran says, if you feel froggy, jump or some such thing. Read about the posturing going on here.
RED LOBSTER IS HEADED TO CHAPTER 11 And this is very much self inflicted after they decided to make All You Can Eat Shrimp, which was a loss leader that took off, a permanent part of their menu and lost big. I love Red Lobster. If that makes me basic then basic it is. I'm sad to see them mismanaged into bankruptcy.
BIDEN'S STAFF CALLS TRUMP HITLER PIG Because it's okay to call anyone you hate Hitler, amiright? You can read about that, but then check out what happened at Loyola Law School.
Here the class clap and cheer? Feels good, right? Thankfully Jake Tapper took the time to tell the truth about the latest Palestinian "hero" who just died in prison in Israel. Watch this.
WOMAN SHOCKED THAT WHOLE FOODS IS EXPENSIVE This story is ridiculous. Of course an apple costs more at Whole Foods, everything costs more at Whole Foods, that's why they call it Whole Paycheck. Shop for apples somewhere cheaper, lady.
CAN OZEMPIC CHANGE YOUR WHOLE PERSONALITY? This story says the mechanism that keeps people from being hungry can also tamp down other parts of your personality. Things like your libido, your cravings for alcohol, and other dopamine enhanced things. Hardly seems worth it.
