WE GET A NEW MAYOR TODAY! And though I did not agree with Mike Johnston's platform positions I hope desperately that in this case I am wrong and he is right because Denver is in a very precarious position when it comes to homelessness and crime. We are very close to following San Fran into a death spiral that it could take decades to get out of, and Johnston had some ideas on how to fix that. Again, I hope he's right! HE'S GOT TO FIGURE OUT THE 16TH STREET MALL I'm still not sure why the rehab of the 16th street Mall didn't happen DURING covid, but now that it's happening AFTER Covid it's killing the businesses that remain there. This story from CBS 4 is a bit disconcerting as they say they invited the Mayor-elect to join them as they talked to struggling business owners but his staff declined. Not a good look but he's been very busy getting ready to take office so I'll give him some grace here.
YES, ALLERGY SEASON HAS BEEN ESPECIALLY BAD THIS YEAR This is part of my issue with my recovery and it's not getting better any time soon. This has been an "abnormal" allergy season, and that's to be expected as we've gotten tons of rain and plants. Read more here.
IF YOU'RE GONNA BET STUPID, YOU BETTER PAY UP Two men made a bet on the presidential election and it was a hefty one. A man in Denver bet on Trump, a man in the Springs bet on Biden and they bet $27,500! I can't imagine betting that much EVER on ANYTHING, but these guys knew each other from gambling so they are experienced at this. When Biden won, the Trump bettor reneged on the bet, saying the election was stolen and the other guy sued and now has won. Pay up, welcher.
ARE YOU AFRAID OF BEING IN CROWDS? This is an interesting column by Vince Bzdek about how many Coloradans say they are afraid of being in crowds because they are afraid of mass shootings. I do not like crowds for different reasons, but at the concert on Saturday it did not occur to me to be afraid of a mass shooting, even while standing in the massive merchandise line. I'm wondering how many of you avoid crowds now for this reason?

He says the top echelon of stars and Hollywood executives should take a pay cut so that money can get spread around to those not at the top.
