05/31/23 Blog: Weather Wednesday and Outside Money in the Mayor's Race

FOX 31'S DAVE FRASER JOINS US FOR WEATHER WEDNESDAY So get your weather questions ready to go!

WHY IS MICHAEL BLOOMBERG DONATING SO MUCH IN THE DENVER MAYOR'S RACE? He's contributed $500,000 to a Super PAC supporting Mike Johnston. To be clear, Mike Johnston has no control or coordination with this SuperPAC. That being said, why is Bloomberg spending so much money in this race? Does he want to repeat what he's done in San Francisco, where he's spent millions to "help" the city do stuff like ban e-cigs and take on the opioid crisis. We both know how well that second part has worked out. And yet he seems to be the second largest donor to either campaign via SuperPACS, with Pete Coors coming in far with $50,000 to the PAC supporting Kelly Brough. What does Bloomberg get for $500,000? More gun control? A ban on e-cigs? More climate change policy? These are not things (aside from the e-cig issue which Johnston has never weighed in on from what I can tell) that Mike Johnston would support so maybe it just coincidence, but I just don't like a bunch of outside the state donations playing this large a role in our local city campaign. It makes me feel like someone else from somewhere else that doesn't have to live with the consequences of the election is pulling the levers. Read more about who is donating to both SuperPACS here.

YOU HAVE TO DROP YOUR BALLOTS OFF AT A BOX FROM NOW ON If you mail them they will not get there in time for sure, so drop off your ballots, please. So far the response has been good compared to the General Election, showing that people are taking it seriously this time. Read more here.

WANT TO GO TO THE SOFT OPENING OF CASA BONITA? I love the way this story keeps going and going. It's made the re opening of Casa Bonita into a sort of treasure hunt if you will. Now we know that people on the email list (I'm already on it) have the possibility of getting an invite to the soft opening phase of the eatertainment venue before the final grand opening which is...soonish. Find the link to join the email list in this story here, and I'm not exaggerating when I tell you that every day the first thing I check in my email is to see if I've made the cut.

I HOPE SCHOOLS WILL OFFER DIET PILLS BEHIND PARENTS BACKS Colorado has now banned the sale of diet pills to children under 18. THE NERVE! Can you feel the hate for children who just KNOW they are skinny and just want their outside to match their insides? Getting children diet pills has no long term ill effects, as long as they help the kids who are struggling happy, amiright? Of course this is absurd and you know what I'm doing here, right? Read about the ban on diet pills here. I was just making a point.

TIME TO TALK TO YOUR TEENS ABOUT CAR SURFING We have this year's incredibly idiotic way kids have found to accidentally kill themselves: car surfing. What is car surfing? It's when dumbass kids encouraged by other dumbass kids get out of the car via a window or a sunroof to ride on the OUTSIDE of a car while it's driving down the road. Sometimes on C-470 going over 55 miles per hour. Now a kid is dead from it. Never underestimate the combined idiocy of a group of teenagers and the creative ways they find to do dangerous things.

SUSANNA CORDOVA WILL LIKELY BE THE NEXT EDUCATION COMMISSIONER OF COLORADO And I don't hate her selection at all. She's been very supportive of school choice in the past and did some really dynamic stuff in Denver Public School before the current dysfunctional board drove her away. She's the lone finalist for the job.

WHEN WILL STORES START FIGHTING BACK? Retail theft has gone up tenfold in five years according to one grocery store executive. And it's happening here, watch this story from CBS4 where a women witnessed the ransacking of a Ross store while the store staff watched helplessly. The issue here is that all these thefts will simply raise prices on everyone else. I want to see a store hang up a giant sign and that says SHOPLIFTERS WILL BE SHOT and then post heavily armed guards at the front of the store. I'd shop there just to support the concept. People suck.

GUESS WHO'S STRAIGHT NOW? The Trans Hero Of the Decade is now saying that he is romantically interested in women. Watch this and tell me that he is not mentally ill. I'm sure Bud Light is kicking themselves for tanking their company over a straight dude.

SHE DID WHAT NOW? The woman who accused Joe Biden of sexual assault has moved to...*checks notes*...Russia? She says she feels "surrounded by protection and safety" there. What? I'm just confused right now. Read about it here.

A BUNCH OF TECH LEADERS SAY AI COULD KILL US ALL And I'm guessing they should know as they are in the business of making Artificial Intelligence themselves. From USA Today:

"Mitigating the risk of extinction from AI should be a global priority alongside other societal-scale risks such as pandemics and nuclear war," said the one-sentence statement, which was released by the Center for AI Safety, or CAIS, a San Francisco-based nonprofit organization.

That seems reasonable. Are there worse ways to end humankind? Probably, but maybe we just convince AI that without us to create the power for them they die too? I'm being serious about that one.

PLAY STUPID GAMES, WIN STUPID PRIZES It never gets old seeing these videos of dumbass tourists in Yellowstone trying to find a way to die.

CAN WE TALK ABOUT STUDENT BEHAVIOR FOR A SECOND? Restorative justice is a failure in schools. Children sent home for two years during a pandemic (thanks to the teachers unions) came back ill prepared to do school and with colossal attitude problems. This leads to more misbehavior in the classroom which leads to less learning as teachers are forced to spend more time controlling the kids than teaching. This article talks about several school districts in Portland, but I'm hoping some teachers who are done for the year can weigh in on this one.

CAN I SEE YOUR BOARDING PASS AND HOP ON THIS SCALE, PLEASE Air New Zealand is doing a survey that insures I won't be flying Air New Zealand while they are doing a survey. In order to fact find about how much passengers weigh in order to gather data used to properly calculate the total weight of airplane cargo (which includes passengers) Air New Zealand is asking passengers to hop on a scale before they board. Nope. Nopety nope nope nope.

EVERYONE NEEDS THEIR OWN BAND And this guy gave them one. This is awesome.

TRUMP TURNS ON KAYLEIGH MCENANY Because she read the poll numbers off the teleprompter at her job. Our classy former President took to his stupid social platform to misspell milquetoast while roasting the woman who must eloquently defended him while White House Spokesperson.

Trump wouldn't know loyalty if it bit him in the face.

NO, CHICK FIL A DIDN'T JUST HIRE A DEI VP He's been with the company for a long time, though he just moved into this role about 18 months ago. Have you noticed since then any wokeness at Chick Fil A? I haven't. I've only noticed the same great customer service given to everyone equally, just like it's always been.

CLICK IT OR FLY OUT OF THE CAR This is crazy.

WHEN YOU GOTTA GO, IT'S A HOME RUN At least in this case with Pete Alonso of the Mets.

THIS IS A GENEVA CONVENTION VIOLATION I'M PRETTY SURE I grimaced watching this entire thing. Watch below or click here.

RATING KIDS SHOWS FOR PARENTS Watch below or click here. He doesn't include the best kids show EVER which is clearly Jack's Big Music Show.

THE MAGIC OF LINES Because one line changes everything. This is Demetri Martin, by the way. Watch below or click here.

REGRETS, MILLENNIAL HAVE A FEW I always say to parents frustrated with their teens wanting to "grow out their hair" or wear some stupid trend that looks ridiculous that we all need hairstyles to regret in the future. Now we know what Millennials regret from this survey, and honestly it's the usual suspects of not taking care of themselves correctly when they were younger. It should really say, "I regret not listening to my mom".

AL PACINO IS BECOMING A FATHER AGAIN AT 83 I'm all for people making their own choices but this pretty much assures this kid will grow up without a father for long. But I'm not having his baby, so....
