WHY IS THE SPRINGS DOING BETTER WITH HOMELESSNESS THAN DENVER? You would think that seeing the numbers that are coming out of Colorado Springs that clearly show the number of homeless people living on the streets DECLINED over the last five years would inspire Denver to check it out and maybe do the same. Don't expect our homeless industry in Denver to change course though, as evidenced by the excuse making in this article from the Denver Gazette. From the article:
“It is well-understood that Denver and Colorado Springs are very different cities with very different populations and resource trends,” said Cathy Alderman, spokesperson and public policy officer for the Denver-based Colorado Coalition for the Homeless.
“I don't know what the value in making this comparison is without comparing other factors like population size, population growth, availability of housing resources and availability of shelter and non-congregate shelter options,” she said. “I think this report incorrectly conflates a reduction in unsheltered homelessness with homelessness resolution.”
See what I mean? Instead of saying, wow what they are doing may be working better than what we're doing, it's "you can't compare the two" instead. Why is it working? Because the Springs focused on building shelter beds and creating a campus with all sorts of services to help those in the shelters while at the same time enforcing camping bans. This is what Denver should have been doing all along. But instead, you get excuse making. Hey Cathy, aren't we always told that we have to keep offering services? That's what they are doing in the Springs, but they put some teeth behind enforcement instead of platitudes. Read the report from the Common Sense Institute here.

THE COLORADO LEGISLATURE IS TRYING TO MICRO MANAGE POLICE NOW Because they are super concerned that law enforcement will cut any sort of deal to hold people wanted by Immigration. They want to spread the bad sanctuary city policies that have led to the problem below to every city in Colorado. Local control is awesome as long as the locals do what our Democratic overlords want us to do. Read more here.
BIDEN'S IMMIGRATION FAILURES HAVE COST DENVER $8 MILLION So far. Why? Because illegal immigrants are pouring across the southern border and buying bus tickets to where they know they won't be arrested, Places like Denver. And now Denver is complaining about all the money they have spent, when their party controls this entire situation. I am not sad for them.
DENVER COMMERCIAL REAL ESTATE IS IN A PRECARIOUS POSITION And this meeting was convened to talk about the headwinds for downtown especially. Foot traffic has not recovered, occupancy has not recovered (and I'm telling you, it's going to get worse before it gets better) and Denver just keeps making it harder and harder to do business there. We are near a tipping point that will take years to undo. This mayoral election is extremely, extremely important. Choose wisely, Denver!

I highly doubt you're going to be able to find a wonderful Cremant d'Alsace in your local Kum and Go. That being said, if you love your wine store, shop at your wine store hard starting today.
WESTMINSTER IS PAYING NEW TEACHERS VERY WELL And those teachers are going to be highest paid new teachers in the state, with a starting salary of $61,000. That is much higher than $43,680 Douglas County pays. Just saying.
CHICAGO MAYOR LORI LIGHTFOOT IS OUT After not making the cut for the runoff election. She came in a sorry third and voters expressed their displeasure with the out of control crime in the city. Don't expect a ton to change, as two other Democrats are headed to the runoff, although they talk a good game on fighting crime.
ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS ARE RETURNING HOME This is an interesting story but one I have some familiarity with. It features a couple who have lived as illegal immigrants in the states for decades who are now returning to Mexico. They saved enough money to build a little house and buy a restaurant back home and now they are headed there because they are tired of working low level jobs and worrying about being arrested. I knew many men in Florida who worked on golf courses whose entire goal was to do this very thing. They worked their butts off and sent most of their money back home to build a little house or buy a business. We need a dynamic immigration system that allows migrants to do this legally. I have no issue with someone coming here to work hard and then go back home at some point. It would be nice if they could do it all legally.
HEY LOOK, IRAN CAN ALMOST MAKE NUKES And they never stopped trying to do so, no matter what the Obama admin wants you to think. They can now produce enough fissile material in about 12 days, but it is believed they lack other components, like the ability to fit such material onto a warhead. I'm sure North Korea can help them out with that.
THIS MAN DOESN'T WEAR SHOES AND I'M INTRIGUED I grew up barefoot in a part of the country where we had a term of the blackened bottom of bare feet (grocery store feet) so I'm down with not wearing shoes whenever I can. That being said, this dude NEVER wears shoes and regularly deals with snow and ice and getting kicked out of businesses for being barefoot. I admire him while also not understanding him. MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS ARE MAKING A COMEBACK...SORT OF I say that a bit cheekily because manual transmissions make up a measly 1.7% of new auto sales, but that's way UP from the .09% in 2019. Some brands have re-added a manual transmission option to their lineups after doing away with it years ago. Who is fueling the comeback? Adventurous 20-somethings who want to control their own driving. I like it. I don't like it enough to buy another manual transmission but I like their moxie.
WHAT THE HECK IS HAPPENING IN ARIZONA RIGHT NOW? And I don't mean the rain, I mean accusations of widespread corruption and bribery by the Sinaloa cartel that has swept up a LOT of elected officials including Governor Katie Hobbs. This story lays out the gist, but as of now there is no sign of a larger investigation into the situation. Is it political posturing? Maybe, but it surely would not surprise me if there were bribes by a cartel in Arizona, as that's how the cartel does business until they kill you.

A TEACHER BULLIED A KID INTO BEING SUICIDAL And if you guessed that she bullied her by calling her a boy's name instead of her regular girl's name you guessed right. This nightmare teachers, who is being sued by the girl's parents, has not been fired, she's just been moved to a first grade classroom instead. No word on if she's encouraging her first graders to "try being gay" or demanding they be transgender as she did with her fifth grade classroom. This is disgusting abuse.
