02/28/23 Blog: They Say They Want to Make Housing More Affordable But...

DEEDS NOT WORDS WHEN IT COMES TO AFFORDABLE HOUSING The last election cycle we heard a ton from politicians running for office about saving Coloradans money and working on our affordable housing issues. Even Democrats ran on that platform so since they won, you'd think we'd be seeing lots of new ideas to make housing more affordable when the OPPOSITE is what's happening. The City of Denver has just banned gas powered heat and water heaters in new multi family homes and office buildings. They are coming for new homes next, I guarantee it. From the Denver Gazette article:

Starting March 1, the city will require applicants to “provide more information about the feasibility of using electric equipment” when seeking a permit for gas equipment. They will have to demonstrate to the city that they have evaluated the feasibility of using electric-powered equipment, checked for gas line leaks, and ensured gas equipment is sized correctly and efficiently, according to the city.
It's not immediately clear which circumstances trigger these requirements or what the costs to building owners will be. But previous analysis hints the expense will be significant. In its analysis last year of a law that requires the adoption of “green” building codes, the Common Sense Institute said it could cost homeowners statewide between $59 and $68 billion by 2031, exacerbating Colorado’s already acute housing shortage. And a state economic impact analysis of a proposed rule that seeks to reduce energy consumption now under consideration by state air pollution authorities could mean thousands of large building owners statewide face spending more than $3.1 billion by 2050 to comply.

If this were going to do ANYTHING towards reducing greenhouse gases worldwide maybe I could see it making sense, but it won't. It won't make a dent. And in the meantime, we are going to be saddled with the same kind of problems California has now, as they are just ahead of us in enforcing Green Dreams. They have some of the highest energy prices in the country and regularly experience brown outs from their reliance on unreliable renewable energy and imported energy made from whatever source. But I'm sure this will be fine because the right people are in charge here, amiright?

CAR THEFT COULD BE A FELONY AGAIN SOON Which is good news to anyone who hasn't had their car stolen in Denver yet. The bipartisan bill was passed out of committee, although a "joyride provision" was added for those young scallywags who just want to steal your car to ride around for a while and then desert it. Because I'm sure someone who does that is an otherwise angel who will only make good decisions going forward. I'm sure.

DOVE VALLEY IS GETTING BIGGER and I'm talking about the park, not the training facility for the Broncos. A big expansion is underway for the huge park, with better ballfields, parking, more trails and a new dog park on the docket. Read more here.

THE HORRIFIC RENT CONTROL BILL IS HEADED TO THE SENATE And please for the love of God let this die there. If not, the Governor MUST veto it and do so with a lot of noise. We'll see if the Senate follows another horrible idea to its conclusion or if they have some basic understanding of economics instead.

LAWYERS FOR THE BOULDER GROCERY STORE SHOOTER SAY HE'S SEVERELY MENTALLY ILL The attorneys for the man who killed eleven at a Boulder King Soopers say he has schizophrenia and is getting treatment at the state mental hospital. Four different psychologists have examined the man and agree with the diagnosis. He needs to be kept away from society for the rest of his life, but perhaps not in prison. What a horrible story.

AURORA RESIDENTS, GET READY FOR WATER RESTRICTIONS They are kicking in May 1st, as the South Platte Basin, where Aurora gets the bulk of it's water, is still in drought. Read more here about when and how you can water your lawns. I'd definitely invest in a water grabbing substance for your lawn this year.

THIS IS WHAT WE GET FOR ALL OF OUR RACIAL POSTURING AND CRT A group of black students at an Ohio elementary school forced white students to pledge allegiance to Black Lives Matter or face a beating. The kids videotaped the attacks though the school won't release the tapes. This is elementary school. This is what telling kids that the only thing that matters is race does. This is us terrorizing white kids the same way black kids were terrorized years ago. This is revenge, not equity.

ON CHARTER SCHOOLS AND INTEGRATION No matter how many times columnists like Paula Noonan lie about charter schools in Colorado, the facts are the facts. And when it comes to integration and serving students of color, charter schools in Colorado do just fine. Read this rebuttal to her falsehood filled column here and please share it with others who believe choice for parents and students is important.

COLORADO DEMOCRATS CONTINUE TO IRRATIONALLY HATE NUCLEAR And have successfully killed a bill that would only do one thing: reclassify nuclear energy as clean energy. Why is this important? It would allow energy companies to begin the process of CONSIDERING nuclear as a part of their energy generation portfolio. Nothing would be built immediately, and this would in now way hasten the process to nuclear in Colorado. It simply takes it from the same category as fossil fuels and properly puts in the green energy column. All Democrats voted against it. Read more here.

SINGLE PAYER KILLS OVER 23,000 WAITING TO BE SEEN AT THE ER They call it the A+E there, but wait times at NHS run emergency rooms are horrifically long. Over 1.6 MILLION people waited over 12 hours to be seen at ERs and one organization that led to over 23,000 excess deaths. The next time someone says single payer is the way to go, please share this article with them.

AROD HAS A NEW WEB SHOW WITH MIKE RICE! Although I think it should just be Rice and Rod, rather than Rice and Arod but that's just me. Check them out here!

BILL MAHER IS SO RIGHT ABOUT THIS And I love that he is calling out the networks about Covid and natural immunity.

MICHAEL B JORDAN ISN'T HAVING IT Talk about being able to turn the tables on the bullies in your life. Jordan took the time to remind an interviewer that she thinks he's corny. Read about it here but this kind of made me laugh.

LADY GAGA IS BEING SUED BY AN ACCOMPLICE IN HER DOG THEFT This woman has some stones if you know what I mean. Jennifer McBride is one of five people charged with the theft of Lady Gaga's two dogs AND the attempted murder of her assistant who was walking them. McBride eventually plead guilty to receiving stolen property in the case. She is also the one who returned the two dogs to Gaga, and for that she is now demanding the $500,000 reward Gaga was promising "no questions asked". She's now suing and if she wins society is over.

WHEN HUSBAND'S SAY YES TOO FAST This is just really sad and I hope he gets lots of inappropriate proposals from women who find him hot now (I do) to shut down his awful wife's entire premise. Why would a wife do this to her husband? And by the way, when a man does this we all react in shock and horror that he could be so superficial. Please join me in feeling the same about this broad.
