DID WE BREAK SOME WEATHER RECORDS IN JANUARY? Maybe not records but I did hear this is the first January in a long, long time that we didn't hit 60 for even one day in January. AN UPDATE ON THE RIGHT TO REPAIR FARM EQUIPMENT I talked about this last week because the Colorado Legislature is considering passing a Right to Repair bill for farm equipment after farmers say they can't get service for their very expensive equipment because the "authorized dealers" simply can't keep up with the needed repairs. I've got the VP if the Illinois Farm Bureau Brian Duncan on at 1 with an update of a deal struck by John Deere and the Farm Bureau to do just that without government interference.

When I saw this the first time, I was genuinely shocked in a good way. Someone is trying to meet people where they are to talk about God. Today I'm talking with Jordan Carson, the Communications Director for He Gets Us which is the organization behind the ads. You can see a whole bunch of them here and they are really, really good, well produced and thought provoking. I want to know where this came from and frankly thank them for doing it. I think if more people turned to God instead of politics or global warming or drugs or alcohol we'd be a whole lot better off and if this works on anyone it is a success. I hope the person who needs this the most hears and receives it. And that includes Christians who may not be living a life that Christ would. It's really really hard sometimes.
THIS IS WHY COLORADO REPUBLICANS WILL BE OUTCASTS FOR A WHILE The fighting between the El Paso GOP and the rest of the GOP is ridiculous. We've got accusations that El Paso leadership stacked the committee so they can remain in power, now we have a lawsuit as the Colorado GOP tries to stop that and it's just a mess. Colorado really doesn't have a coherent opposition party as long as this crap continues. When people sue to keep power I am always suspicious of their motives no matter what they may say. It becomes about them and not what is best for the state. I don't who would want to run this dumpster fire right now.
ASPEN JUST ADOPTED A SLEW OF NEW HOUSING RULES That are going to make building a home in one of the most expensive real estate markets even MORE expensive. Of course they are pushing electrification in order to meet their lofty and completely unattainable as of now climate goals. Note how they don't go after existing homes, most of which heat their homes with gas and I'm sure have huge chef's kitchen gas stoves in them. They are getting super good at making sure no poor people will ever be able to live there. Note Aspen hasn't put any limits on private jet traffic, which probably accounts for way more CO2 emissions than every home in the city. Aspen is just ridiculous.
NOW THE FBI IS SEARCHING BIDEN'S BEACH HOME My first question is how does a guy who has always lived off the government teet afford a beach home? I'm kidding of course because we all know the grift game for elected officials. The FBI has searched the beach house without a warrant to make sure no more classified documents were lurking there.
THE DALLAS ZOO MONKEYS HAVE BEEN FOUND! But the Furry Liberator is just toying with cops if you ask me. The two tamarin monkeys were found in the closet of an abandoned house after a tip. The Dallas PD are looking for help identifying a man they say may know something about the series of animal enclosure vandalations that have seen some animals escape.
MY TAKEAWAY FROM THIS STORY WAS A BIT DIFFERENT THAN WHAT WAS INTENDED I am not trying to assign motive to the reporter who wrote this story about the Point in Time survey about people living on the streets right now, but it is filled with compassionate quotes from compassionate people who work in the homeless industry so I'm guessing the reporter has a lot of compassion as well. I also have compassion but I don't think supporting people living on the streets in any way is compassionate and this article proved my point if you get to the end. It starts out by telling the story of a homeless woman and her wonky space heater that won't stay on. It ends with this:
“My fingers and my toes are what gets cold. And my face,” said Rena Cayou.
Her plan for the week is to toss the hit-and-miss heater, leave her stuff in a locker provided by Giving Hearts and call in a favor with her family.
“I’m going to swallow my pride,” she said. “Ask them for help.”
When being homeless is no longer bearable she is willing to "swallow her pride" which is super ironic because I'm not sure how you can be proud to live on the streets but she asked for help. I hope her family helps her, but this is what I'm talking about. Make it so uncomfortable that these holdouts WILL come in and get real help to get their lives back, don't make it easier for them to live like animals. They are human beings and God's creations and should be treated as such, even if tough love is required to help them see it.
COLORADO'S PUBLIC UTILITIES COMMISSION JUST GOT AN EARFUL Because people are IRATE about the power bills they are getting after the PUC has rubber stamped pretty much every increase and fee Xcel has asked for for YEARS. Now the bills are due and people, who didn't show up for any of the meetings where these increases were granted by the way, are SUPER angry. They let fly in a Zoom meeting with the PUC but I doubt it will do anything because the PUC as it currently sits is full of Polis's Green Energy pals who think zero emissions are both possible and desirable.
A MIXED BAG OF LAW ENFORCEMENT BILLS ARE BEING CONSIDERED And once again designed to make things easier for both the convicted and the accused. One I really have issue with is one that bans law enforcement from lying to minors. This is pretty standard as cops often lie to people they are questioning to get them to tell the truth. Juveniles are far more likely to offer a false confession than adults, so something does need to be done, but you can't take the whole thing off the table for law enforcement just as violent crime is skyrocketing for juveniles. There has to be another way. The other bills have to do with the overuse of metal restraints, which seems to be more a policy thing at prisons that a law thing. The final bill I am all in favor of, regardless of what it costs. That bill would allow anyone convicted of a crime to ask for DNA testing that may prove them innocent. I support this one 100%. Everyone should have the right to prove themselves innocent.
TOM BRADY SAYS HE REALLY AND TRULY IS OUT THIS TIME As he announces his retirement again via video message. I believe him, as this video is short and non emotional as he said he is only going to do one emotional goodbye and he did that last year. I hope he and Gisele can work things out.
HEY LOOK, MASKS DON'T WORK! This time it's from the Cochrane Review, which is recognized worldwide as the highest standard in evidence-based healthcare. What did they find when they looked at Random Controlled Trials on masking that included a total of over 610,000 people? Masks, even N95 masks, don't work. You know what does? GEORGE SANTOS TAKES HIMSELF OFF COMMITTEES This makes me think he's not a completely horrible person but he's got huge issues that need to be sorted. He voluntarily recused himself from serving on committees as he works through the financial fraud issues plaguing him.
THAT FAST FOOD YOU LOVE COULD GIVE YOU CANCER When you are living the fast food lifestyle you don't realize how bad all that stuff makes you feel until you quit. Then you notice things like your skin clearing up and the sluggishness isn't there and hopefully you make the connection between what you eat and how you feel. If not, how about recognizing that ultra processed food isn't feeding your body well but it could be feeding cancer well. That is what researchers are seeing from a long term study on people in the UK. They have found a connection between eating very highly processed junk food and cancer and it's pretty significant.
