Tue Blog: Pray for Damar Hamlin

TIME FOR PRAYERS FOR DAMAR HAMLIN If you missed Monday Night Football last night I'm sure by now you've heard about the collapse of Damar Hamlin's collapse during the Bills-Cincinnati game. He's a young man who had a heart attack in the best possible place where he was surrounded by the best medical attention that he got immediately, but as of this morning he is in critical condition. The Bills tweeted this out last night at midnight and as of this morning there was no new news to report.

I realize a lot of people are blaming the vaccine, and I'm not going to lie, it crossed my mind too, but this doctor has another very plausible explanation. And before you blame the NFL and Goodell for taking so long to call the game, read this. This was an unprecedented situation and a lot happened behind the scenes that we weren't privy to.

REMEMBER WHEN DEMOCRATS WERE WORRIED ABOUT OUR COST OF LIVING? Well that was just during the election and since enough voters were stupid enough to believe them we are facing a big jump in our cost of living with all the nuisance taxes and changes they've forced down our throats here in Colorifornia. From new bag fees and cage free eggs to clipping your paycheck for a family leave program most of us will never use, they are about to raid your pockets like a bandit in the night, but someone voted for this and we get the government we deserve, amiright? Watch this story from Fox 31.

Here you can read about how we are banning plastic bags and if you watched the above you see it's because of "plastic bag pollution" which only quotes the number of bags we use, but doesn't provide any evidence they cause pollution. You can still get bags, they are just 10 cents each. I just ordered these on Amazon for .04 a bag just to be passive aggressive. I'm guessing the prices will go lower when retailers are forced to use something more expensive. Here's a fun story on how eggs are currently $7.99 a dozen, if you can even find them, because Democrats care more about the happiness of chickens than allowing people to have access to a cheap source of protein. Oh, and I'm sure people living on the margins already will be thrilled to see a .5% chunk taken out of their paycheck. What a time to be alive as Democrats continue to make everything more expensive.

OH, AND EXPECT A GAS PRICE SPIKE TOO Because of a fire at the Suncor refinery that provides about 45% of the gas we use here in Colorado. It's shut down, possibly for months after a fire. The Governor did some blah blah about it, but I'm sure he's hoping it will force more of us out of our cars as a side effect. We are very quickly heading for California gas prices, which were about $5.54 for regular in LA last week.

AND ABOUT THOSE RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCES THE GOVERNOR LOVES This is a good column about the reality of winter and renewables. I've got a natural gas furnace so this won't bother me much, but what about those people who are going to be forced to buy a heat pump when they buy a new house? What if the Dems are successful in shoving all renewables and all electrification down our throats and they can't produce enough energy to meet our needs during a cold snap like we had last week? This series of tweets got the column going:

You should read the entire thread because our current leadership is telling Xcel to get to 80% renewables when clearly they simply would not work in a cold snap like the one we just had. We have to have a conversation about this, but Dems are just marching us backwards instead.

WHY IS A READING LIST CONTROVERSIAL? So I follow this guy named Lex Fridman on Twitter and he's a super smart nerd from MIT and his Twitter feed is mostly about nerdy science stuff. He recently tweeted out that he is going to read one classic book a week and Twitter went nuts. I have no idea why, as his list is populated by some of the greatest books in history, though a bit heavy on sci fi for my taste. Find it here and maybe think about doing the same thing, although some of these books would take me longer than a week to properly read and digest.

AURORA HITS A DUBIOUS MILESTONE Aurora has recorded more murders this year than any other since 2008. This after protests where "community leaders" and roving bands of hooligans broke into the court house and set it on fire. Remember, Mayor Mike Coffman blamed the police for letting it happen. This is the city which can't find a new police chief because NO ONE IS APPLYING for the job. The real irony here is that I bet a vast majority of those murder victims are black or brown. If I were the Aurora PD I'd publish a list of all those murder victims including a picture so the "community leaders" can see who they are "protecting" from police. I'd be shocked if there is a white face among them.

AS A GEN XER, THIS MADE ME SMILE And yes, there is a curse word in it, but I did my best to take it out.

ARE MEMORY ISSUES BEING OVERDIAGNOSED? A faltering memory is a common symptom of old age, but there is a real concern that doctors are overdiagnosing Alzheimers and dementia. Why would they do this? Governments are asking them to without acknowledging that the tests for cognitive impairment are not good and can send people to medications that could do more harm than good while also taking valuable resources from people who actually have these diseases. SOUTHWEST AIRLINES REALLY SCREWED IT UP THIS HOLIDAY SEASON And if you haven't read this unflinching criticism of what they did wrong that created so much havoc you should. It's a perfect example of what happens when a company's leadership has no clue what the day to day of their business is really like. I know what that's like.

60 MINUTES GIVE AIRTIME TO A GUY WHO IS ALWAYS WRONG Have you noticed the depopulation drumbeat going on in the media right now? It's gaining steam even as we watch China suffer with depopulation from its disastrous one child policy. Now we are treated by 60 Minutes to an interview by a guy who, as far as I can tell, has NEVER BEEN RIGHT since he published his idiotic book The Population Bomb 54 years ago. Dr. Paul Ehrlich, who is still allowed access to college students he teaches at Stanford, was the star of the interview where he said the Earth is doomed unless we kill off a bunch of people. This article does a great job showing the myriad of ways this guy has been not just wrong, but SPECTACULARLY wrong on this issue over and over again. Why does he keep getting a platform? And he's old, why not off himself to help his cause? Notice the depopulation types never start with themselves.

BILLIONAIRES ARE TRYING TO CURE AGING And I'm fine with this. This article talks about the field of anti-aging and longevity and how billionaires are funding start ups looking to increase the healthy lifespan of human beings. What I find interesting is the jealousy on display by people who claim to worry that such treatments will only be available for the rich, rather than celebrating that we are working on helping people live HEALTHY longer lives. I NEVER FIND ANYTHING GOOD UNDER MY FLOORBOARDS I wonder if the two gents who hid a bottle under a floorboard 135 years ago knew they would be a star in 2023? A plumber working in an old home in Scotland found the bottle with a note in it under the floorboards. So cool. Sidenote, this is why hardwood flooring is the best flooring.

HERTZ GOES ELECTRIC AND MAKES A LOT OF MONEY This is a really interesting story for a couple of reasons. First off, I think if you have the chance to rent an electric vehicles it may make it easier to wrap your head around buying an electric vehicle. Second, because Hertz uses cars for a short period of time before selling them (often with high mileage) this stands to make EVs affordable on the used market a lot faster. Why did Hertz go electric? They are cheaper to maintain until you have to replace the batteries. Read more here.

THE STORY OF THE ATTACK ON OUR SHOW PHYSICIST IS A MUST READ I hope you guys remember Dr. Hakeem Oluyesi from his appearance on the show many times. He's one of my favorite guests and the last time he was on, he told the tale of what happened when he tried to un-besmirch the name of James Webb after Webb was accused of leading a purge of homosexuals at NASA. That accusation is false, but one activist chick physicist will not admit defeat and has made attacking Oluseyi her mission. Read all about it here.

SOME PEOPLE ARE JUST THERE FOR A SEASON

THE RV RECESSION LIGHT IS FLASHING RVs are a HUGE discretionary spending investment, and let's be real, mostly bought by people who have recently retired and don't know about VRBO. The pandemic was REALLY good for RV sales as people didn't want to interact with anyone at a hotel and RVs flew off the shelves. Industry types say the huge drop in orders is simply a correction, but I'd keep an eye on this as a recession marker.
