Late in the second quarter, it looked like the Kansas City Chiefs would blow out the Denver Broncos.
But the Broncos battled back from a 27-0 deficit before falling 34-28 Sunday at Empower Field at Mile High.
Willie Gay's 47-yard interception return with 4:32 left in the second quarter put KC up 27-0.
After Kansas City got the ball back, Broncos linebacker Josey Jewell intercepted Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and set the Broncos up at the KC 42-yard line. Four plays later, Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson threw an 18-yard touchdown pass to Jerry Jeudy to get the Broncos on the scoreboard.
Cornerback Pat Surtain then intercepted Mahomes and the Broncos had the ball back at their 40. This time, they needed seven plays to score. Wilson found Jeudy from five yards out and the Broncos were within 27-14 with nine seconds left before halftime.
The Broncos opened the third quarter with the ball and went 75 yards in five plays. Running back Marlon Mack took a screen pass 66 yards for a touchdown and just like that, Denver only trailed 27-21 with 13:03 remaining in the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter with the Broncos down 34-21, Wilson scrambled 19 yards for a first down but was slammed to the turf and had to go into concussion protocol. He did not return to the game. Back-up quarterback Brett Rypien found Jeudy on a seven-yard TD pass on 4th-and-goal and the Broncos trailed 34-28 with 10:49 left.
But that's as close as the Broncos could get.

The Broncos have now lost 14 straight games to the Chiefs. Denver is 3-10 while Kansas City raises its record to 10-3.
