Gordon Sondland is a successful hotelier who, with years of persistence on his part, was named American ambassador to the European Union by Donald Trump. He was then called to testify before Congress during the first Trump impeachment. I recall talking about his testimony in that it struck me as truthful, and in that way there were things that were bad for Trump and things that were good for Trump but of course, Trump being Trump, it was only the bad for Trump stuff that impacted, and ended, his tenure.
Amb Sondland's new book is called "The Envoy: Mastering the Art of Diplomacy with Trump and the World." While I won't say it's the best thing I've ever read, I do admire Sondland's explicit and proud admission/claim to have done everything he could for years, whatever it took, including spending at least a million dollars, to get appointed to an ambassadorship. We'll also talk about his watch.
