Lt. Col Scott Mann Created Operation Pineapple Express

Lt. Col Scott Mann (US Army Ret) was watching the collapse of Afghanistan and thinking about the many brave Afghans who fought alongside him and his men. One particular Afghan, Nizam, was already being hunted by the Taliban. The Biden Administration was doing nothing to help people like Nizam and Scott was not going to just let him die. So he and other former military who were in the US, political staff, intelligence officers and, eventually, active-duty military who were in Afghanistan created Operation Pineapple Express which saved around 1,000 people from almost sure torture and death. Other groups did similar things, some even at larger scale. Scott's new book tells the story of the heroism, success, and heartbreak of Operation Pineapple Express. Also, while I know that the US military and government had a lot on its plate and couldn't do everything in a very short time frame, this was a problem caused entirely by President Biden's insistence on immediate withdrawal, combined with the insanely stupid decision to give up control of Bagram Air Base and instead try to evacuate thousands of people from a far less defensible Hamid Karzai International Airport. That decision is to military strategy what Germany's decisions to close nuclear power plants and become more dependent on Russian energy is to energy policy.
