The Denver Broncos had opportunities.

But they made too many mistakes.

The Broncos opened the season with a 17-16 loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Monday Night Football at Lumen Field in Seattle.

Broncos kicker Brandon McManus missed a 64-yard field goal wide left with 15 seconds left to seal the win for the Seahawks. Broncos head coach Nathaniel Hackett opted for the field goal attempt instead of going for a first down on 4th-and-6.

The field goal was the final missed opportunity but ones earlier in the game were certainly costly for the Broncos.

In the third quarter, running back Melvin Gordon fumbled the football away while trying to get into the end zone on a 4th-and-goal run from inside the Seattle one yard line. On the Broncos next series, they again drove to the Seahawks one before Javonte Williams coughed the ball up and the Seahawks recovered in the end zone.

Later in the second half, the Broncos drove inside the Seattle five yard line before settling for McManus' 26 yard field goal to get within 17-16 with 6:16 remaining in the fourth quarter.

The Broncos had a touchdown wiped out by a penalty. They committed 12 penalties themselves for 106 yards. They were 0-4 in the red zone.

And yet, Denver still had a chance to win it at the end.

The Broncos now get ready for their home opener against the Houston Texans this Sunday, September 18. Coverage starts at 8 a.m. MDT on KOA 850 AM and 94.1 FM.
