Mandy's Fri Blog: Media Bias and a Day In the Life of A Cop

WHAT'S IT LIKE TO BE A COP THESE DAYS? Officer Andrew Brown of the Garden City Police Department is coming in to talk about life as a small town cop. He's coming up at 2 today.

CAN WE TALK LOCAL MEDIA BIAS FOR A HOT MINUTE? I had coffee with Mike Krause from CompleteColorado.com (which you should be reading EVERY DAY) and he said he has a file of great examples of local left wing media bias so he's coming on to share his stash. I'm guessing a vast majority of them come from 9News. Just a hunch. I'm looking at you Kyle Clark.

WHY ARE ONLY CHARTER SCHOOLS WORKING TO GET KIDS CAUGHT UP? I want to start this rant with a HUGE shoutout and congratulations to the teachers and staff at Academy 360, who banded together to apply for a grant that allows them to run school in the summer for eight weeks to try to get kids caught up from learning losses from the covid shutdowns. This is what needs to happen at EVERY School, but oddly, no traditional public schools seem to be doing the same thing. I wonder why? I wonder why the teachers unions aren't applying for grants and asking public schools to open up for the summer so they can help those kids in traditional public schools? Can anyone guess? I can, and it's mostly because they don't want to disrupt their own summer vacations and the kids will be "equally behind" in their minds so it doesn't really matter. Good for Academy 360 and all the teachers who gave up their summers to help the kids who need it most.

A SOROS BACKED DA RESIGNS IN THE SAN LUIS VALLEY Because he was on his way to being recalled. This story is one of many being played out across the country, as a bunch of soft-on-crime DAs ran for office on a promise of clearing out the jails and not enforcing petty crime. I have no idea why that was a winning message unless people think the people in jail are there unjustly. Under now departed DA Alonzo Payne's "leadership" most of the attorneys in the department had resigned and the ones who are left were hopelessly overworked. Governor Polis illegally appointed our Attorney General DA to cover until he found out he couldn't. It's a mess down there but here's hoping they get a DA that can lead the department back to sanity and actually enforcing the law. I blame Defund the Police and other left wing idiocy for the position we're in now with crime and it's fun to see those who voted for it backpedaling as hard as they can.

THERE IS AN ARREST WARRANT FOR TINA PETERS NOW And I'm sure we'll see video of her resisting arrest while being picked up at lunch or some such nonsense. She violated the terms of her bail by traveling out of state. She has zero respect for any law. She can now enjoy waiting for trial from jail.

THE SECOND LONGEST GOLF COURSE IN THE WORLD IS OPEN NOW IN WINDSOR And it looks really pretty but at 8,400 yards with five par fives, this is not the course for my game right now. Good for Winsor and I hope this becomes everything they want it to be.

WHY DO OUR LEGISLATORS WANT US TO BE LIKE CALIFORNIA? Our Democratic Legislature LOVES to legislate things they do in California, but California is CLEARLY getting it wrong. They have the largest homeless population in the country with over 60,000 people on the streets, and now we know they have the biggest shortage of new housing and building than anywhere in the country too. Now our Legislature is trying to pass the same kind of green building codes that have made building in California even MORE expensive and less attractive so we can have an even bigger building shortage here. It seems the Legislature only pays attention to the INTENTION of all these California bills rather than the outcome of all these California bills.

THIS LAWSUIT SHOULD FULLY DISQUALIFY TERRENCE ROBERTS FROM RUNNING DENVER Not that I think the anti-gang activist has a snowballs chance in hell anyway. He's suing over his treatment by Denver Police when he led a protest against a Back the Blue rally in downtown Denver. This was the protest where the police let the anti-cop protesters dangerously close to the pro-cop activists who where physically attacked by the counter protesters. Now he says he's the victim because he got pepper sprayed in his face. Tough snookies, pal. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. Here is video from how that day turned out so you can judge how "peaceful" his counter protest, which was designed to shut down a positive event to support police by the way, was.

THE FED MAY YANK UP INTEREST RATES IN THE NEXT MEETING And I'm talking about them yanking it up a full percentage point which could cause a shock to the markets but is going to have to happen to bring inflation into check.

DENVER RICH PERSON'S TAX BREAK PROVES POPULAR And I'm talking about the Denver e-bike rebate program that gives $1700 towards the cost of an electric bike. I've not found an ebike that costs less than $3000 so this seems like a rich person tax break to me. Am I wrong? Are a bunch of hourly employees buying these bikes? Seems like well-to-do white liberals make up most of this market from what I've seen downtown. Just saying.

IT'S TIME TO BACKUP GOVERNMENT TEXT MESSAGES IN THE CLOUD Because ONCE AGAIN, text messages were deleted AFTER they were told to be preserved, this time by the Secret Service. They say it was part of an "device-replacement program" and not at ALL intentional even though the days of January 5th and 6th HAPPENED to be included on those devices. Why are these messages not backed up? Because this is suspiciously similar to the "accidental" deletion of a ton of text messages between the FBI's Peter Strzok and Lisa Page as they plotted against the administration they both worked for. It's time to require an off site backup of all text messages that happens automatically on every government issued phone. We have the technology, it just needs to happen.

OH, YOU'RE A LION? THIS HIPPO DON'T GIVE A CRAP

ONE WOMAN PUTS SEX WORK ON HER LINKEDIN PAGE EXPERIENCE And I have to say, this is an interesting move. It all depends on what you want to accomplish in life, and if she wants to make a fortune engaging in sexual content online she shouldn't be on LinkedIn. We can talk about women's empowerment all we want, but people look down on sex work and I don't see that changing any time soon. It is very difficult to be taken seriously in some fields (like the one I'm in) and this is not going to help. I wish her well, but this was a dumb thing to do if you ask me. It's not that I think women should be ashamed of it, I'm just realistic about how society overall sees it. Just ask a porn star who is no longer in the business.

EUROPE IS IN A DANGEROUS HEAT WAVE And they don't have ac like WE have ac and this is super dangerous. The NHS is bracing for heat and sun strokes and the rest of Europe is bracing for temps over 100 degrees for several days. Not a good time to visit Europe.

CAN WE AGREE THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THIS MAN? As he is covered in tattoos, his eyes are dyed black and he just had chunks of flesh cut out of his head to spell 666? I say yes, something is wrong with him.

BABY YODA IS A GREMLINS RIP OFF And the director of the 90s films starring adorable little Gizmo says he is. Director Joe Dante says Baby Yoda is cut-and-pasted from Gizmo and he has a point. They do look remarkably similar.

THIS DEFENSE ATTORNEY SAYS DON'T USE SELF CHECKOUT And her reasoning is complex and has me rethinking the entire enterprise.

FOUR TIPS TO RAISING SUCCESSFUL KIDS And making them successful adults. This author spoke to 70 parents of high performing adults to ask them how they did it, and guess what? Not one parent said they helicoptered the kid to make sure they never had to suffer disappointment. Quite the opposite, actually. Read the tips here.

WANT TO LIVE LONGER? EAT FLAVORLESS FOOD To be clear, salt intake is not an issue for most people. Some people with high blood pressure should avoid it, but those people are in the minority. We need salt to survive. Now a study shows that you have an elevated chance of being of the tiny number of people who die too soon if you use salt on everything. Take this with a grain of salt.

alcohol consumption when you're under 40 is bad for everyone based on how many people die from extraneous actions around drinking, like drinking and driving and homicide and whatnot. Over 40, there are demonstrable health benefits when it comes to things like diabetes and high blood pressure. So no booze until 40 seems reasonable to my 52 year old self.

AND NOW, DRUNK FANCY WOMAN MAKES HER OWN FOOD AT MCDONALDSother new study shows that WELP, TIME TO RAISE THE DRINKING AGE TO 40 f
