Ross' Mon Blogcast: Pandora Papers, Facebook critic, Neuromorphic computing

Today's Guest

Garrett Kenyon has been a staff member in the Biological and Quantum Physics group at the Los Alamos National Laboratory since 2001. His research interests involve the application of computer simulations and theoretical techniques to the analysis of computation in biological neural networks. We're going to talk about a few things today including "neuromorphic computing" (see first link below.)

The Pandora Papers

In the largest leak ever of financial information from tax havens around the world (including, apparently, South Dakota), multiple newspapers are reporting on the Pandora Papers and the wealth held/hidden by billionaires and world leaders. I don't care much about how rich private citizens hold their wealth, but I care a lot about how leaders of nations appear to become fabulously wealthy. I bet the people of those nations do too.

Why are there so many fewer men in college than there used to be?

Seems to me that so many American movements to raise up a particular group end up hurting another group (or groups). Like the lunatics who support Critical Race Theory, including the egregious racist Ibram X Kendi, who argue that society must discriminate against white people now in order to address prior discrimination against black people. And like those who for much of the past generation aimed to help girls gain an equal foothold, especially economically, in society but ended up causing great harm to boys through their efforts.

Let's hope it collapses

Just below these links about the (welcome) chaos surrounding the Biden/Democratic spending binge, please see the email I sent to Fox News's Chris Wallace this morning about the interview described in the first link.

Good morning, Chris,
Interesting question of Barrasso. The right answer from him would have been “there is no constitutional authority for any of this type of spending” but of course he left himself in a position to be unable to make that argument by supporting the prior higher child tax credit. It doesn’t matter what I think but I’m against all of it.
I don’t know if you were just posing something of a devil’s advocate question as a journalist or whether the question represented a hint of your own views (which I know you scrupulously avoid expressing in such interviews) but the idea of whether a state benefits from particular federal spending is not a legitimate way to judge whether such spending is appropriate.
Did you ever read President Grover Cleveland’s statement on his veto of the Texas Seed Bill in 1887? It’s fantastic.

See the video below...I note that, of course, Facebook is pushing back HARD, including by arguing that the January 6th riots were not in any way caused or exacerbated by its participants' use of Facebook.
